Best new restaurants?

Maybe I"ve missed this thread, but is there any discussion of the best relatively new restaurants in Chicago. Those that have opened since, say, 2010-11?

I'm looking to take my spouse out to a birthday dinner soon and have been to all the usual suspects many times. Think Blackbird, MK, Next, Moto, Sepia, Takashi, Boka, Schwa, Graham Elliot, Girl and Goat.

Are there any new restaurants that hit (or almost hit) this level? What about Henri and bistronomic?

Any help would be appreciated. Apologies if I just missed the best new restaurant thread.

Thanks!

How were recent experiences with Eve?

Thanks guys for the helpful thoughts!http://www.chow.com/images/button-post_my_reply.20091228092446.gif

I think we are going to try Takashi and Sepia this month... one for birthday and one for anniversary. Will still try Eve at some point but maybe when the stakes are a little bit lower than a birthday / anniversary.

How were recent experiences with Eve?

I'm trying to schedule a nice birthday dinner for my wife. We have not tried Eve but the restaurant has a good-looking menu and has been getting some good press. But also interested in chowhounds' views of the restaurant. In particular, how does it compare with some of the old standards like Blackbird, MK, North Pond, Naha, etc. Is it in the same league as these places or not? Many thanks!!

Not a restaurant, but there is one more must-see in Old Town for chowhounds: The Spice House at 1512 N Wells St. They have fresh spices from all over the world there and the smell is unbelievable.

Good places near Second City

See the "Spending a week in Old Town - Not to miss?" thread. Second City is in Old Town and all the Old Town restaurants are referenced there

Best French-style patisserie in Chicago?

Does anyone have recommendations on the best patisserie in the city?

Used to live in Paris and loved the eclairs, tartes aux fraixes, tartes aux pommes, religeuses, pain au chocolat, etc., that one could find on virtually every street corner.

For the life of me though I cannot find a place in Chicago that does these right (and by right of course I mean Parisian style). "Sweet Thang" had an awful name but the pastry chef there wasn't too bad, but unfortunately it closed. And Medici Bakery is not bad either, but it's not authentic.

all great posts below, and agree with consensus that salpicon, old town brasserie, and topo gigio are your best bets.

i would add mizu, which is a sushi / yakitori place on north ave, just off of wells. not the scene-iest atmosphere, but they have outstanding food, if you feel like japanese
