800 Degree Pizza Falls Flat
Hey Westsidegal, completely agree with your points re:800 deg...just wondering...have you ever bitten into a cheesy pizza and been unable literally to tear away from the slice? and if so, where? i want to hang onto my teeth a little longer... ha,ha!
Who makes your favorite patty melt?
@ipsedixit...do you also get a free EKG at the hospital after one of those patty melts..or maybe a coupon for an ambulance ride...
Angelini Osteria - The Square, Church and Osteria
I went for the first time last week and also had an excellent experience...I didnt find the seating particularly tight. not roomy but not uncomfortable and im fairly sensitive to cramped seating.
Recent reports on Osteria Angelini?
@manku...we couldnt get a res at a reasonable time at Mozza....and wed been there before....Angelini was an excellent dining experience...great ambiance...friendly attentive waiters, a lotta chatter w/o being deafening as Mozza sometimes is...we went with pastas...all excellent..mine bomboletti w/guanciale, pepper flakes & sumthin else...a pappardelle w/duck confit...delish! saw a couple salt encrusted Branzinos go by that looked amazing...nice salumi appetizer, and caprese w/burrata...very nice...ok profiterroles and ricotta cheese cake...as good as it was, i have to say i prefer Olive Garden and their never ending pasta bowl.....thats a joke CHers!

Best Fries on Westside?

Mercado Buenos Aires
Stopped in once because while driving down Van Nuys, it caught ny eye. I took them to go and 4 were consumed befor i got to Ventura Blvd...keep meaning to go up..lots of enticing items...
Best place you ate at this week?
Went back to Mother Dough in e Hollywood last sat nite..2nd excellent pie, sausage and my companion had a margherita, i've had there in the last month..Neapolitan style, which means a softer crust, "wet" center, which i love...the Owner/pizzaiolo, Bez Campani, toured Italy and was inspired to recreate their traditional pizza. I have to say that, tangible or not, when the chef is making all the pies and doing everything himself, as opposed to a trained hire, i appreciate the control and devotion to the product. friendly staff and except for an annoying, bawling baby, it was a great meal.
Finally tried Pizzeria Mozza last Sunday
i may be there saturday...i'll report on Mozza's status!
Finally tried Pizzeria Mozza last Sunday
A pie is about 14" ...a hungry person can, w/o too much difficulty, devour one...it could be shared if two people order it as an app....personally, i love the margherita w/sausage...not too many toppings but plentiful sausage and it's "juicy and spicy" the way Sly Likes his meat.
Best Coffee in LA
well, theres no Dutton's anymore but yes, there on San Vicente. Funnel Mill is on Broadway and 10th st(?) in Santa Monica, well worth a visit!
Bourdain in San Francisco for Layovers
As Carmen McCrae most appropriately sang it, "I'm Always Drunk in San Francisco." Ah yes!
O Sotto mio!
@omotosando...everyone is used to a "drier" center unless you grew up and live in Naples....Im betting that if you really dig great pizza, you will incorporate the Neapolitan style into your pizza rotation...Try Mother Dough, maybe a little bit better than Sotto but it's so subjective and variable barometric conditions can impact the dough...
Best Coffee in LA
I def like Luxxe Caffe, usually the San Vicente branch..but I discovered my favorite coffee a few weeks back and though i drove down there street 5 or 6 times a week for years, id missed Funnel Mill for the last 6 years....love the whole chemistry vibe and the folks are very nice coffee/tea fanatics. i usually am a Peet's customer for my daily, convenient coffee(sadly the drip coffee is becoming rather bitter...when i have time im goin to Funnel Mill..smooth!
Label's Table -- Best Westside Pastrami Sandwich
very unexpected comment and very funny!!!!!!!!
O Sotto mio!
@omotosando...what you and so many continue to complain about, i.e. the soggy center of Neapolitan influenced pizzas, is like criticizing the zebra for its stripes...All Neapolitan style pies are to some degree, wet in the center...this is (mostly) due to the use of fresh mozzarella which is moister than the aged mozzarella normally used on American pizza. im afraid that's not going to change at Sotto....Check out Stella Rossa on Main St in SM for a "drier" pizza.
Where to take a "Pizza Virgin" to pop their cherry?
that's no way to treat a friend!
Stella Rossa-Fab by Any Name But Turn Down the Volume
the sausage pie was excellent 4 of 5 times i ordered it...the last time, the crust was a bit gummy...only there once during a busy hour and it was extreeeememly loud...ugh
John O'Groats - Pancake Power Undiminished!
Ive been at the Ventura Blvd outpost quite often lately...coffee is excellent. Biscuits, pancakes are excellent and really nice people.
Where to take a "Pizza Virgin" to pop their cherry?
I def endorse both those pizza options...different but excellent....btw..is pizza on the "actor's diet?" I suppose if you're playing William Howard Taft.
Where to take a "Pizza Virgin" to pop their cherry?
Burger Boy, i wouldnt use the names Mozza and Pitfire in the same sentence. No need to consider Pitfire as a pizza "deflowering" destination!
Where to take a "Pizza Virgin" to pop their cherry?
Definitely no reason to start at the "bottom rung." I cringe just thinking what wouldve happened to me if Papa John's was my first pizza experience...Well, id probably be considerably lighter...get a slice at Vito's or Joe's then do a pie at Mozza!
Need good variety of soup options in SF Valley
Hey mucho gordo! Muchas gracias ...Salads Galore worked out well...good choice of soups for Mom who needs something ez to swallow. I shoulda mentioned looking for non pho or Chinese soups...I'll go for those myself.
800 degrees crust
Im a little curious about the cheese "flavor." Its mozzarella, not a very flavorful cheese. More about the texture and creaminess...RE: cafe angelino..liked their pie but the crust was, for me, too crispy...
