Newsletters

For some reason all my newsletters have stopped. When I go to newsletters that are none to choose from. Then I received an email stating that I have unsubscribed from all newsletters. Is there a problem in this area. I haven't been on chow for a while and am not sure if Newsletters are a thing of the past, hope not. Any assistance would be most appreciated.

Beanless Chili

Hello everyone. I am on the hunt for a really good beanless chili. My kids love chili but I just can't get them to eat beans. I have come across many recipes but am not sure if they are any good. Hoping someone has an amazing recipe that they have used for years.

Thanks to all.

Maris Piper & Arran Victory

oops my mistake, pretty new to chow, might be a reason I do not get many replies to my post, thank you for the advice.

Maris Piper & Arran Victory

I just watched a program in which Heston Blumenthal was on the quest to make the best fish & chips. He stated that the arran victory or the maris piper are the best potatoes for making french fries. Are these varieties of potato available in Canada? Do they carry a different name here? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Le Creuset, All-Clad, Where to get the best deals in Ontario?

I wouldn't worry about a receipt since warranty is lifetime and they know it is their product. I would just write to them in the future.

Outdoor Party

It is a bridal shower, her third, and we are all going to shower her with sexy numbers for her honeymoon, no pots and pans at this shower! She has a very large party so I am looking at about 30 or so people. Around 15 for the actual shower and then the men will be joining us. I would like to keep the snacks poolside on the lighter side and then grill later. I am tired of doing the same old and wanted to venture out and try some new things. Thanks for all the ideas.

Reaching out to find out what can be done with the juice extracted from tart cherries, have already made about 30 jars of jelly. Would prefer to find another use for it. Thanks to all!

Help, Cherry Pie Filling & Preserving

I made cherry pie filling for the first time and I have preserved it. I filled 500 ml jars, a little over 2 cups, is this enough to fill one 8 or 9 inch pie crust or do I need to use 2 jars? This is a first for me.

how to make a ladybug cake?

You may want to take a look at this video, cake looks very easy to make and decorate, you may have to make two depending on how many you will be serving.

Le Creuset

I have a huge Italian family and when we sit down to dinner there is about 50-60 of us sometimes more with boyfriends and girlfriends. I do my tomato sauce in it, I do stock, I do roasts, I use it for many things when I get the group together. I couldn't live without it!

Le Creuset, All-Clad, Where to get the best deals in Ontario?

Too bad you threw it out I believe Le Creuset has quite the warranty, if it happens again you may want to contact them, they may replace it free of charge. I have read in many blogs that people have had them replaced by Le Creuset.

Help! Preserving & Canning

First time canning pie filling, I used Bernardin's recipe and they advised using the clearjel, I really hope it turns out. Looked delicious!

Le Creuset

I am not sure where you are located but I purchased mine for less than $300 US (not much different CDN with the exchange at the Le Creuset outlet store in Port Huron. I absolutely love it and use it often. Definitely worth the money but as you can see I purchased it for less. They called it a second but the only flaw is a little blemish under the lid. The service is fantastic and the girls that work there are friendly and will go out of their way to assist.

Help! Preserving & Canning

p.s. they suggest you use it just like constarch, I am going ot try it on gravies and sauces.

Help! Preserving & Canning

Take a look at my reply to Laura, posted it and then read yours, chuckled when I read yours. I guess great minds think alike! I agree I am sure I will be able to use it somewhere. Everyone should try this ClearJel, thickened up really nice and it is suppose to hold it's consistency etc just like commercially processed pie filling.

Help! Preserving & Canning

I used a product that Bernardin is promoting (apparently this is suppose to be much better than cornstarch) it's called ClearJel. I reheated the 3 jars that oozed out and reprocessed them, the mixture seemed to be a little thinner but seemed to thicken up when I reheated. I am crossing my fingers. I am keeping these jars separate (made a ton) and will use them for cheesecake topping or ice cream topping if the consistency is too thin. What do you think? This is my first attempt at pie filling, I'm not really sure what I am suppose to be looking for. Tasted great so I am sure I will be able to do something with it.

Le Creuset, All-Clad, Where to get the best deals in Ontario?

I am from london, unfortunately we do not have a Williams Sonoma here. I have been purchasing from Cutlery and More & Metro Kitchen online and have been finding even with exchange, shipping & duty I am much farther ahead. Have also had luck shopping at the Le Creuset outlet stores in New Jersey (brother lives there) and Port Huron. Prices are fantastic but they do not ship to Canada, when I have visited Jersey have had to go thru the trouble of shipping via UPS because items are too heavy to carry on the plane. I find the prices in Canada are astronomical, same thing with All-Clad. Items are almost double after my total price including shipping, duties, exchange and export fees. It would be nice to have the ease of just picking up at piece at a local retailer if you know what I mean. Not sure if anyone has hit the outlet store in Port Huron, they have new and seconds(very few flaws and the deals are fantastic!).

Help! Preserving & Canning

Hello All, I was working late canning pie filling (blueberry) this evening. I filled my canning pots and once it began boiling I set my timer for 34 minutes to complete the processing time, and believe it or not I fell asleep and I processed for approximately 1 1/2 hours, did I ruin this batch?
Two of the jars I over filled and some of the preserve spilled out, how can I fix this or should I just make a couple of pies in the morning? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Le Creuset, All-Clad, Where to get the best deals in Ontario?

Good Morning

Reaching out in hopes that I can find a good retailer that stocks the above. I have been ordering from the US because the prices seem to be much better than I have been able to find here in Ontario even when adding in the shipping and duty. It would be nice to purchase closer to home. Any help would be appreciated.

Best Silicone Whisk

I am on the hunt for the best silicone whisk on the market. One that will hold up use after use. The last few I have purchased have not held up so well. The silicone seems to separate from the wire and bits of them break off. I have invested in quite a few Le Creuset and All-Clad products and am looking for a product that will not scratch the surfaces and therefore felt silicone would be the way to go. Any thoughts, recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
