Munchmouth's Profile

Where to find dense, moist wheat bread like in Germany?

I second for Berolina's in Montrose. Love Shreiner's too- if you pick up some sausage and rokraut you are all set for a few days, dinnerwise.

Road Trip! Anza Borrego, El Centro/Brawley

Next time I'm in the area I'll check out Celias.

Road Trip! Anza Borrego, El Centro/Brawley

Thanks for steering us toward the quesadilla especial! We ended up in Brawley and a young woman at our hotel told us about Christine's where we got a real home-made quesadilla especial. It was fluffy and cheesy! My husband liked their chili relleno. This was definitely a little family place where locals come to gossip. Really friendly people out there.

The quesadilla especial reminded me of my grandma's pasties and empanadas too- something your grandma or aunt would make to keep you going!

Road Trip! Anza Borrego, El Centro/Brawley

Hi Chowhounders,
Finally got a high clearance vehicle and looking to enjoy the dirt roads around Anza Borrego SP. Any recommendations for the area east of Anza? Don't know the area very well.

Palm Springs Recommendations

Thank you, I'll definitely check out Elmer's and Marguarita's. :)

Palm Springs Recommendations

Haven't been to Palm Springs in awhile...what are your favorite standbys and what's new and good?

Lunch in Irwindale

OK Chowhounders....I've got an all day meeting in Irwindale but we get an hour for lunch. What do you recommend?

Brits, Pasadena -- What's Going On?

I thought they went on vacation in August...? But my husband says he heard that they might be moving closer to Old Town Pasadena.

Crystalized vs. Candied Ginger

Hi All,
Just trying to make a ginger bundt cake here. Recipe calls for crystalized ginger, but I could only find "candied non-crystalized ginger". Do you think it would destroy my cake if I used that instead?

I'm going to try it in five minutes anyway, just wanted another opinion.

Corned beef hash??? ANyone??!

How about Leroy's on Huntington Bl in Monrovia?

Homesick New England Hubby needs cinnamon doughnuts with his cider.

I've been home all day fighting off a cold, flu, or whatever. Hubby is bored, sad. He misses the Highland Forest near his hometown of Syracuse. The lakes. The apple orchards. Most of all, he misses the cinnamon doughnuts he could dip into the cider. I thought they'd be at Ralphs, but no.

We're in the Pasadena area, we're like to get out for a drive. Any ideas?

Anyone know where to get patitza?

Yes!!!! That's it! Thank you so much!

Anyone know where to get patitza?

That might be how you spell it...I think that's it! The c has a little thingy underneath though.

Anyone know where to get patitza?

My little 93 year old grandma from Montana needs her patitza! Any Croatian/Yugoslavian types out there?
This may be the challenging Chowhound query yet!
(No, stollen will not suffice!)

Inexpensive LA Restaurant for Fiance's Birthday?

Bistro de la Gare in South Pasadena, after a beautiful afternoon at the Huntington Botanical Gardens in nearby San Marino.

What's the Best Eating Street in LA?

There is not really a street in L.A. where you can walk around and get lots of good eats, but the Farmer's Market on 3rd is good, also the Grand Central Market in Downtown LA on Broadway is fun too.
But the ultimate is...Valley Blvd. Every kind of dumpling, noodle, everything.

Any Chowish spots in Burbank?

oops, but those aren't upscale. No matter. You've got to get to Porto's anyway. Really. If they are that uptight then I would go for McCormick and Schmicks, great appetizers and a good happy hour I've heard. But pricey!!

Any Chowish spots in Burbank?

My husband and I love to have lunch at Urban Eats on Magnolia, especially if you want to eat healthy, they have a great grilled vegetable salad and they sell Mexican Coke (no corn syrup, only cane sugar). Also, you can't miss Porto's!!! The best Cuban food around - try the medianoche sandwich. Oh and their pastries are incredible. Great coffee too.
