Corkage Restaurants?

Oh, and my favorite part of that article is the upper limit per person in "North Carolina it’s eight liters per customer"

Corkage Restaurants?

In Boston, the law is that corkage/BYOB is only permitted in establishments that do NOT have a liquor license.

Italian Style Roast Beef Sandwich OR Roast Pork Sandwiches

I'm a real sucker for all the late night TV on Food Network and Travel Channel and I keep seeing these amazing sandwiches that I've never heard of in this area. One is the roast pork sandwich with broccoli rabe which I saw on Diners, Drive-Thrus and Dives and is famous in Philly and the other was an Chicago based, Italian-style roast beef sandwich made by dunking roast beef in au jus and serving it on nice sub bread with pickled veggies.

Does anyone else know what I'm talking about. Can they be found anywhere in Massachusetts, or even New England?

make it, its not rocket science. This is a super easy meal to make.

What are my options for local meat?

To comment more on Pete & Jen's and their meat. They always post a current list of what's available in their freezers right now on their site, www.peteandjensbackyardbirds.com. For FRESH meat, you usually sign up for it well in advance. For example, the chicken order forms go out in Spring and you need to jump or you will miss out. Then you pick up your FRESH FRESH FRESH birds on the designated Sunday of the month. They are actually killed at the farm the day before in their Mobile Poultry Processing Unit. And the quality is amazing and the best birds I've ever had.

Their pork is in the spring/fall and is butchered at Bloods on the same day the pigs arrive at there. You can get it fresh or frozen depending on your order (order in advance). They also have some for sale in the freezer too. The same goes for the lamb. Rabbits are all frozen to my knowledge and all the beef is too. Its not their own beef but from a grass/organic farm nearby.

Verrill's beef is pretty much grass fed and you can see the cows in the pasture on Rt 2 just before Emerson Hospital in their field on the left side of the road (going westbound).

scones, where do you buy the most delicious ones?

Verril Farm in Concord, MA definitely has the best scones. And judging by the fact that they sell out almost immediately, I'm not the only one. I really love the cranberry orange ones. And I made my own last weekend using the cranberry scone recipe from epicurious.com and replaced the dried cranberries with fresh. They came out PERFECT!

What the heck is Jamie Oliver's red chili?

Jamie Oliver's newest cookbook is a great read so far but I'm puzzled. He uses a red chili in lots of his recipes (okay, about 75%, some would say overkill) and I would love to know which one he uses. Its the same shape as a jalapeño but skinny and red. And the fact that he uses it quite often (all the freakin' time) leads me to believe that its no too spicy.

I'm not that versed in chilies but I do get to see a pretty good selection at the likes of Verril Farm (in the summertime), Idylwilde and Russos and some of the Stop & Shops in the city.

Can someone shed some light. And this is a link to the chili he's using ...

I'm headed to Sam LaGrassa's tomorrow for the first time ...

I went twice since I last made this post I loved it so much. I got the chipotle pastrami both times, too. Ive gotten my whole office hooked on the place so I'm sure I'll be making the trek from Waltham to Boston on a regular basis.

Best cupcakes?

I know you're trying to be frugal but crumbs is hands down (and up) the best cupcake EVER produced. I am an accomplished baker and have tried lots of the new trendy cupcake places and Crumbs really beats them with both hands behind their back.

They have a big range of sizes and a wonderful website so if you're ordering for kids, you can get the minis in a variety pack. Just be warned, they are extremely addicting and you will go back again and again. These are no silly frou-frou cakes with delicate designs. And they freeze really well too! I actually had over half my freezer dedicated to them while I was on maternity leave ...

The one catch - they aren't around here so adding the S&H makes them a bit pricey. Go to www.crumbs.com and you can order them for overnight delivery which is pricey but worth every penny. They ship beautifully and you won't have to drive anywhere.

Any recommendations on how things work at Sam LaGrassa's? I'm going for my very first trip tomorrow with much anticipation after seeing them on Diners Drive Thrus and Dives!

Dairy Joy in Weston: Very Expensive, but ...

I just wanted to stick my two cents in as well. After reading all of this post, I was getting super hungry for some fried clams so off to Dairy Joy for my lunch break (I work in a building in Waltham just looking over the reservior so its about 6 minutes to drive to DJ). When I got to Dairy Joy, I ordered the 1/2 clam plate ($16.95) and added some rings for $2 more BUT guess what ... They have increased all clam prices by 25% due to the "extordinarily high cost of whole belly clams." The server taking the order pointed out the sign and said it had just been implemented in the past few days.

The clams were excellent and the 1/2 plate was giant, right on par with a plate from Woodmans thought not quite as good.

To sum it up, 1/2 plate (add onion rings) and a raspberry lime rickey = $28. All in all, not bad given the giant size of the plate. And they have the best raspberry line rickies around, not too sweet and fresh lime! And I was too stuffed to get my usual Java Berry cone, oh well.
