Appeal of larger sized Maryland crab, considering cost?

The "jimmies" (males).

Share your Best and Worst Seafood Tower spots

Generally, they're "towers" comprised of 3-4 platters of chilled oysters/shrimp/clams/lobster/crab serving multiple guests. They're featured in high-end steak and seafood restaurants and fine hotels. The Prime Rib has a pretty good one. My three favorites have been the Old Homestead Steakhouse in NYC, the Rivue at the Galt House Hotel in Louisville and Brennan's Steakhouse in New Orleans. My least favorite was probably at Bobby Van's on New York Ave. Dry, mealy crab and oysters that were downright unhealthy. Come to think of it, the steaks weren't that great, either.

Best airport restaurant/bar

My favorite is Pork and Pickle above Gate 45 at MCI Kansas City. That's right, ABOVE Gate 45. It has an elevator, like a private club. They have a large selection of small-batch whiskers and a rotation of over 30 craft beers. Best of all, they have wood-fired smokers right behind the bar cranking out succulent barbecued ribs, brisket, pork butt, chicken and sausage. A large sampler platter of ribs, brisket, sausage, crisp coleslaw and fries is $20. Outstanding!

Quintessential Chesapeake Bay-area Dishes

Roasted or fried muskrat is a Chesapeake delicacy. Well...you asked!

Sees Candy

National Airport has a See's kiosk, as does BWI. Probably Dulles as well.

Good hoagies in Northern VA or general DC area?

Go totally nuts with a Mario's ham, steak, EGG and cheese with the Lefty treatment: slaw, onions, pickles, mustard, mayo and (the crowning touch) hots. Ridiculously good.

Are all the Polock Johnny's gone?

Peter Chang to come to Arlington?

My experience in Charlottesville was sort of in between. I would describe the food as decent, but a little on the sweet side overall and not as flavorsome as I would like. There are a good half-dozen Chinese restaurants (conservatively) between Rockville and Falls Church that blow Chang's place away. It may be that they've devolved to accommodate local tastes. However, for C'ville, it's top of the mark.

Oldest Restaurants in Baltimore area

Glad to hear that Snyder's reopened. I'm not really that nostalgic for the old location (which was a dump long before the flood), but I was missing the prime rib. Thanks for the update.

Red Parrot Asian Bistro in Station North-- a glimmer of hope for Baltimore Chinese?

I occasionally have lunch at the Arundel Mills location. Mostly I stick with the sushi, which is pricey but fresh. The rest of the menu items range from underwhelming to lame, except for their selection of over-sized Japanese beers. Those always cheer me up.

Fried Chicken in Orlando?

Yes. The Popeye's on the Turnpike at the Canoe Creek plaza turns out some of the best fried chicken ever. They move a lot of it, so it's always fresh.

Great Tacos and Tortas in Frederick, MD--Cafe Bueno

My wife made the call on this place, having stopped in for coffee a month or so back. We had an excellent torta there last week, which contained at least a half-pound of shredded, marinated brisket. The roll was perfect. A huge, juicy, delicious mess of a sandwich for the bargain price of $7.50. Tonight, we each had a brace of three tacos (lengua and pork al pastor w/pineapple) also for $7.50. The lengua is outstanding--slow cooked until tender, spiced and finished on the flat top. Melts in your mouth. The al pastor w/pineapple was pretty dang good with a side of pinto beans and rice, homemade tortilla chips and 3 fresh salsas (green, red and serious habanero) These folks definitely know what they're doing. Cafe Bueno is tucked in a little plaza at 5th and East Streets, which also contains a laundromat, a liquor store and a 7-Eleven (what more do you need?). It's definitely in the rotation.

Is Five Guys Really the Best Fast-Food Chain?

I believe there's a Glory Days in Georgetown on M St. At least, there was a few years ago. They do have a good burger, but they don't really qualify as a fast food place.

Is Five Guys Really the Best Fast-Food Chain?

Where are you seeing Inn 'n Out in the eastern states? Sonic is making an all-out blitz in the Baltimore-DC-Frederick area, but I haven't seen an Inn 'n Out yet. That would be totally awesome, by the way.

ISO - NoVA area suckling pig to roast - Please help

For future reference, Mt. Airy (MD) Meat Locker has fresh suckling pig. Call ahead.

looking for unpastuerized apple cider

Catoctin Orchards on US 15 has great fresh cider, as well as many varieties of apples and pears grown on the premises. Great pies, too. The cider donuts aren't really to my liking, though. It's north of Frederick, about 4 miles before Thurmont.

Besh fish markets in Baltimore?

There a big seafood distributor near 170 and Route 1 in Jessup, but I can't remember the name at present. Very fresh.

late night Baltimore

The Double-T Diner on US 40W in Catonsville, near 695. They're open late on weekends. Not the greatest, but not bad.

Joe's Noodle House (and Sichuan Jin RIver): Downhill concerns?

I was there again last week. The SP squid was great, as always. The home style Kung pao was smoky and spicy, but decided more oily than usual. The chopped leek stems were great and the yang chow rice was loaded with shrimp, beef and chicken. There was enough of everything for three more meals. So, I thought the quality was still there, but there was so much oil in the Kung pao that it soaked through the carton and filled the bag on the way home. Still very tasty, but the preparation is usually much drier. Haven't had the baby smelts for a while, but your description certainly doesn't sound the way I remember them. Audrey was not around, but it was early afternoon on a Tuesday.

What Is America's Worst Restaurant Chain?

We still have Roy's in Maryland. Okay, but not as good as I recall back in the day. Marijuana might be the missing link.

what to do with country style pork ribs?

Brown and put them a crock pot with enchilada sauce. Simmer all day on low setting. Make tacos for dinner. Oustanding.

As with all things fromage (kase?), it's big in Wisconsin. Actually, I think it's big everywhere.

Tackling the dreaded Beef wellington. What's your preference on cut?

Pretty much the same thing, but they're fool-proof. You can even cut out little decorative shapes and apply glaze them with a little egg white. Comes out real purty.

Chipotle Workers Quit, Shut Down Store, Because That Job Sucks

I'm all for collective action on the part of employees to redress grievances in the workplace. But, what makes this a little different is labor and management walking out together. That speaks volumes.

Chipotle Workers Quit, Shut Down Store, Because That Job Sucks

Of course it's "never the case"! I was being sarcastic. They'll get the mistreatment they deserve for being the worms they are.
