cheese course at L'Espalier and Menton

Thanks kimfair1!

To cambridgedoctpr: I can only say that I like cheese in restaurants in particular because I often still have red wine to finish. I was only asking for the price of the course not whether I should order it.
One of the great charms of dining in France whether at L'Ambrosie, Taillevent, Michel Bras or a small bistro in Strasburg is the cheese course. I am always happy when I have the option in America. It provides a pause in the meal to slowly finish my bottle of wine and reflect upon the meal before the closing movement. Would a Mozart symphony be as beautiful without the slow movement? Thanks for your opinion all the same.

Much obliged sir. I'm but a poor Maine lad and wanted to make sure that my accounts can withstand the blow.

cheese course at L'Espalier and Menton

My birthday is the Monday following. Lunch will be at L'Espalier (prix fixe and grand fromage) a cocktail at Drink and then dinner at Menton. The cheese course is $17.00 at L'Espalier. Menton does not indicate that a cheese course is even on offer. Other chowhounds have posted that one is offered. What is the cost? Thanks in advance!

Can you get Soft Shell crabs in NO in October?

I agree with the timing (430) because part of the fun of Gal's is watching the room come to life and fill up. It's the reason I prefer Sunday lunch. You won't be rushed by management or waiter to eat and leave. Settle in for 2 or 3 appetizers (the goute, fried eggplant, pommes soufle) and cocktails (plural) then the entree with a glass of wine, perhaps desert, cafe brulot or cognac...slow and easy, what's the hurry. It seems to me that Galatoire's is more a Diamond Jim Brady kind of place, but I'd have been happy to have dined with either of them...or more recently RW Apple of the New York Times.

If you have a reservation that means you will be sitting upstairs. IMHO, the real action is in the main dining room downstairs (except Sundays at 1130 as we all wait, with bloody mary in hand, for the downstairs room to open up at noon). Gal's take no reservations for the downstairs room. Also men are required to wear jackets at dinner. Along with August and Brigsten's my favorite place. You can also get pompano with a soft shell and shrimp garnish! Just talk with your waiter about what you like and follow his advice. Have fun...laissez les bons temps roulez!!!!!

Can you eat well and enjoy NOLA on a 100 dollars a day budget??

The menu will change often as with the menu proper. I am on the e mail list for August and that is how I heard the news. May I suggest that you call them and ask? It is true that they haven't posted it on their site. The menus I read there are not current either. This link will allow you to sign up for their e mails too:http://www.restaurantaugust.com/conta...
