Iggies in Mt. Vernon (Baltimore City) on Calvert Street. Great thin crust pizzas and nice salads but it's BYOB.

Dangerously Delicious Pies - Baltimore

I just purchased one of those Living Social deals for Dangerously Delicious Pies in Baltimore. I've heard a lot about them but have never eaten there. I'm more savory than sweet (but can appreciate a really good sweet pie). Can anyone suggest what I should get?

Also, if anyone is interested in the deal ($50 to spend for $25), here it is: http://livingsocial.com/deals/6610

Should I get the Zojirushi 3 cup or 5 1/2 cup rice cooker?

Thanks for that post! I got the 5.5 cup cooker last week and it's great. My boyfriend's surgery is tomorrow and because we've been trying to spend as much time as possible enjoying the time we have left, I never got a chance to make the congee. I'll make it for him after he's healed from the surgery and off the feeding tube.

Should I get the Zojirushi 3 cup or 5 1/2 cup rice cooker?

Thank you for your wishes and advice. His surgery is tomorrow, July 19. I ended up getting the larger rice cooker last week and I'm very happy with it. Unfortunately, because of time constraints and the surgery being tomorrow, I haven't been able to make congee with it yet. It'll have to wait until he's off the feeding tube and able to eat again.

Thank you. After reading some recipes for it, I saw that it called for a lot more water/stock, so I was thinking the same thing. I just wasn't sure if making a smaller amount of regular jasmine rice (say 2 or 3 cups) would turn out badly in a 5 1/2 cup cooker.

Should I get the Zojirushi 3 cup or 5 1/2 cup rice cooker?

I'm ready to buy my first Zojirushi rice cooker but I'm having a difficult time deciding whether to buy the 3 cup or 5 1/2 cup model. I currently have a crappy 3 cup Salton and for the most part it makes just the right amount of rice for my boyfriend and I.

One of the main reasons why I want to get one of these rice cookers is to make Congee (or Jook). My boyfriend was recently diagnosed with an oral cancer. Right now, he's having a difficult time eating anything that has to be chewed. In a few weeks he'll undergo surgery and will have a hard time eating anything. I figure Congee might be a good and different source of some kind of nutrition besides pureeing everything.

I guess I should admit that I've never actually made Congee before (my mom used to make it for me when I was little) so I'm concerned that if I get the 3 cup cooker that it won't be enough.

These rice cookers aren't inexpensive and I absolutely hate the hassle of returning things, so I'd really appreciate some of your advice.

Thank you so much in advance for your help :)

Had lunch at the City Cafe today. Looks like I'll be eating there more than I should too. Had the Chicken Fun Salad - it was tasty, huge, and... Fun!

Dim Sum?! I love Dim Sum, though I've heard negative reviews about Zhongshan. Guess I'll have to form my own opinion about the place! Thanks for the head's up on the Pho too. Would be nice to not have to travel so far to get that!

I love falafel! The only good falafel I've found in Baltimore is from Cypriana. Looking forward to trying it. Thanks!

I've heard only good things about Sofi's Crepes, so that will be next on my list. Love, love, love the Brewers Art, but it's not open for lunch (I think). I've been to Thai Landing. It's pretty good, but I'm a little more fond of Ban Thai - probably biased because my parents knew the owners :)

Thanks so much amyatkendall! Just tried Nina's and it was great. I ended up getting the Pork Bulgoki because it's far too hot for soup today. Very friendly and I especially love that my food was delivery by a drop-down basket from the second floor!

I forgot to mention that I'm also a sucker for Chinese food. Are there any decent restaurants or carry out places in the area? Ones that serve fried rice that isn't yellow but brown - the way it's supposed to be :)

Hmm...will have to gather together some peeps for this venture. My eyes are definitely bigger than my stomach, so I'd be in some big trouble if I went by myself. HA! Thanks.

Mmm...Nina's sounds delightful. May have to go there today! Is their tofu teriyaki fried? I'm pretty sure I know where both are, so I look forward to trying them both out!

All sound great. Yes, I love Indian food - but my lactose intolerance doesn't, hehe. I'm still trying to find my way around the neighborhood. I'm not sure how far I can go without getting lost and getting back to the office in a reasonable amount of time - but I will probably try them all at one point or another :) Thanks so much!

I've never had Ethiopian food but have been curious about it. Could you please recommend some things that are a must try?

Recommendations for Mt. Vernon, please.

I recently acquired a new job in the Mt. Vernon area. I'm looking for some good grub in walking distance from the area around the Washington Monument.

I've been to Iggies, Soups On, Cozy Corner, Gallery Cafe and Marie Louise Bistro. I like most types of food and am not afraid to try something new. I love soup - I miss going to Atwaters. I also appreciate real Thai food and good sushi. I hear that there's a fusion place around the corner but I'm not much of a fusion type of girl. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Best sushi in Baltimore

Sushi San/Thai Jai Dee in Canton. Incredibly intricate and flavorful. I've been to Chiyo many times and although they have an insanely long list of specialty rolls, none of them are as blissful as the ones at Sushi San. The Terp Roll is to die for! They serve their own wine - dunno if they'd allow BYOW.

Spaghetti pizza

The best spaghetti pizza is at VITO'S on York Road by Well's Liquor! Their food runs circles around Pasta Mista's and you get a ton more.

Looking for a "must try" in Virginia

I'm heading to Springfield, VA and I'm wondering if there are any must try places in the vicinity. Doesn't matter what kind of food, but I'm not looking to spend a lot. Thanks :)
