Short Drive from New Orleans into Mississippi

One of the best restaurants in Mississippi (or perhaps THE best)...Walker's drive-in in Jackson. Derek Emerson, the chef there, is nominated for the James Beard Best Chef of the South this year.

Restaurant with best design?

A great place for a drink in the quarter with a very historic atmosphere (over 200 years old, former residence of new orlean's mayor who offered his home to Napoleon as refuge) is The Napoleon House, one of my favorite spots in the Quarter. Not where you want to eat your meal, but they are known for their warm muffuletta. To quote the website... "it's a place that suspends you in time, where you can hear Beethoven's Eroiqua, which he composed for Napoleon, and the music of other classical masters, while sipping a Pimm's Cup, and basking in an ambiance that could only be New Orleans."

New Orleanians going to be ON Oprah, need some food/drink recs!

Ok, we live in NOLA and we love our good food and libations. We will be there early next week. We will probably be staying close by the Harpo studios, so I guess let that guide you . I need a few recs from you all!
1. A good place for cocktails
2. A nice place for dinner, not too too fancy and expensive (but there IS a chance my friend and her dog, MoMo, will be winning a million dollars (FOR REAL-stay tuned to the show about the cutest dog competition) so who knows we might could afford a fancy dinner!
3. A good casual/inexpensive joint
Thanks so much in advance!

The "perfect" sampling of New Orleans restaurants

One good mid- afternoon or mid- morning snack is a crepe from crepes a la cart, though the setting is not very charming (next to the boot on broadway), but you can take it to audubon and stroll.

Mexican Coca-Cola

yep, I bought some there (sam's on airline) last week for $16 something for 24.

Fine dining close to the Ritz

Thank you all for the suggestions! I was able to give a somewhat "informed" opinion!

Fine dining close to the Ritz

Ok, our friends are coming to New Orleans in August (on a friday and saturday) and are staying at the Ritz...I think one night we will pick them up and take them to a neighborhood place like Dick and Jenny's but I need your favorite fine dining that is very walkable from the Ritz (they would probably prefer quarter)...any suggestions? I suppose a lunch suggestion would be good too. I'm new to the city, know a lot of great places to try from all of your suggestions, but still am not clear on locations...
Thanks!

gumbo ya-ya

interesting note..."ya ya" is also greek for "grandmother". Would be an appropriate word usage for gumbo ya ya if it wasn't......greek.
