Chinese New Year Dinner Recs

Hey all --

The Chinese New Year is upon us! Any places to recommend that are a bit more upscale, like Newport Seafood but maybe a bit more affordable? Looking around the Monterey Park area that can accommodate 10 people.

Shanghai Stir Fried Rice Cake

My wife and I went to Mei Long Village today and the rice cakes were delicious.

Thanks for the recommendations, everyone!

Shanghai Stir Fried Rice Cake

Hi all --

Looking for Shanghai stir fried rice cake in Los Angeles. See photo for clarification (I do not own the photo). Preferably a place west of the 5, but any suggestions in San Gabriel and Monterey Park would be great.

I'm looking for other options because I had it at Emperor Noodle and loved it.

Does anyone know their hours? Can't find them online.

Umami @ The Grove -- Moco Loco

It wasn't on the menu at the Grove. I had to ask for it by name. And I think the Grove is the only one that serves it...

Umami @ The Grove -- Moco Loco

Went to the Umami at the Grove this weekend and had the gluten-free Moco Loco burger. It was awesome! The crispy rice, the runny egg, and beef was a great combination of textures and flavors. I highly recommend it.

Also, the cheesy tots are pretty dang good.

Anyone else go yet?

Tacqueria Los Anaya on West Adams?

Oh yeah, and the owner told me LA Weekly voted them the #8 fish taco in LA! Not bad for a restaurant that's only six months old!

Tacqueria Los Anaya on West Adams?

After reading about this, I decided to go last night. I live in the area and figured it was worth checking out.

I highly recommend going here! I got the three taco combo of al pastor, carnitas, and carne asada -- all great! The beans and rice were good, too. I definitely plan on returning.

Also, while I was waiting for my food, I got to chat with the owners, who were super nice. We need more "hole-in-the-wall" places like this!

The best pork sandwich in LA

Oh yes, I second this. This sandwich was fantastic.

need rec for anniversary. whats hot and recently new (opened within the last 18 months or so)

Animal or Son of a Gun would be great. Baco Mercat, too.

They're not as fancy as Providence, more along the vibe of Ink. But definitely three of my favorite new restaurants in LA.

Where can I find ground dark meat turkey?

Have you tried Lindy & Grundy on Fairfax? Awesome butchers.

Looks like I need to go to Sotto for lunch...

The Banh Mi at Ink.Sack is pretty good.

Oil Drum BBQ Grate for Pig Roast

Sam: Can you recommend any? I can't seem to find any via Google.

Oil Drum BBQ Grate for Pig Roast

I'm looking for a place in Los Angeles that sells oil drum BBQ grates. I'm looking to do a whole pig roast.

Best Burger in Portland?

My wife and I will be in Portland this weekend for the Labor Day holiday. Coming up from LA and looking for the best burger Portland has to offer!

Please suggest!
