Thanks for the great response and all the suggestions!

Where to eat near San Francisco State

We're dropping our son off in August and would like to take him to dinner before we leave. I thought I'd get a head start on this.

He'll try anything! We are a little less adventurous. Somewhere casual, but we might splurge for the occasion.

Thanks!

Peach melba pie

Have you seen one lately, preferably in Orange County or Long Beach area?

As I recall, it was made with glazed fresh peaches and fresh raspberries.

They used to have them at Polly's, or maybe it was Marie Callendar's. It's been so long since I've seen one that I can't remember where it was!

Do you have a favorite I'm-alone-now-so-nobody-will-know favorite dish?

My secret meal is hot dog "pinwheels": sliced hot dogs rolled up in flattened and sliced Crescent rolls, baked and dipped in mustard. Yum!

I used to eat cheez whiz and peanut butter sandwiches. Or bacon and peanut butter.

Hot Cross Buns in OC

I saw hot cross buns at The Great Dane Bakery in Los Alamitos a couple of days ago. But when I went back today, I didn't see any, so I guess a call first would be advisable there, too.

Emergency brownie help needed!

Maybe you could try calling Melinda Lee for advice! It seems to me that she gets these kind of questions a lot.

finding lemon oil for baking??

Have you tried a cake decorating shop? I found lemon oil at one here in Orange County.

Suggestions for big group dinner in San Jose

Spaghetti Factory was actually the first place I tried, to set up a team dinner. But after calling 3 times and never getting the call back that was promised, I gave up. It would have been ideal, though--thanks for the suggestion!

coconut M&M sightings?

Walgreens on Telegraph in Berkeley had some last week.

Suggestions for big group dinner in San Jose

Thanks, rilkeanheart and Claudette-- just got back from our trip, and everybody enjoyed Aqui and Sonoma Chicken Coop! Your suggestions made me look good, but I gave the credit to Chowhounders!

Thanks for the suggestion--that sounds like exactly what we are looking for!

Suggestions for big group dinner in San Jose

My son's water polo team will be in the San Jose area at the end of July for a tournament. We're staying near the airport, but can drive a bit. Can you recommend some restaurants for teenage boys with big appetites and their parents, a group of 30 or more? We would like good quality, somewhat healthy for $15 or less, and relatively quick service. Maybe something "fast casual," too. And nothing too exotic to upset their stomachs! (Too many restrictions?) Thanks for any suggestions.
