Low sodium anniversary dinner?

Call before going to a restaurant and ask if they will help with health restrictions. Some will, some won't. I have huge restrictions but my doctor said one meal won't kill you. Just don't go too crazy. Sodium hides in everything, celery who knew. Cookies, everything. Ask them not to salt as they cook, breads etc you can't change.

Lots of luck. It is nearly impossible to eat anything that is processed or cooked by others.

The 'Colonel' cooks rare video

This is not Colonel Sanders. He was a close family friend and I know this is a look alike. Many managers copied his look for their stores.

Also he was not so much the cook. He and his wife developed the recipe. But he was more the front of the house and she was in the kitchen.

Grocery shopping at Walmart...?

We have found that Walmart is the only place to find a variety of sugar free, low/no sodium, low fat products. They have chips, tomato juice, diced tomatoes, crackers, cookies, broths, and much more.

With my heart /diabetic diet it nice to have food choices that aren't so limited.

Produce no, meat no agreed.

We are San Leandro, CA across the Bay from San Francisco.

breakfasts, relatively healthy mains and/or salads in/near San Leandro, Hayward and Castro Valley

Breakfast Pelton Café in San Leandro. No one does breakfast much better than Denny's if you want traditional food.

Sushi Delight San Leandro has fairly healthy food, it depends on what health issues you have. Grilled chicken, seafood, steak, light on the sauce, and of course sushi

Paradiso San Leandro has a varied menu, good salads, soups, all types of meats, sandwiches, pizzas. Again it depends on what is healthy for you.

Petty CHOPPED comments [from me]

You both nailed it. My husband and I said the same things. The scarf was just awful. The hair thing seems to be the new style for men. You can see the style on other programs. The same oh so carefully tousled hair, that looks as if it will chip.

Elio's in San Leandro

Comfort food in large portions. Great breakfasts. If you are under 70, you are a baby there. There are some young families, but most are senior citizens. Service quick and efficient. There can be long waits for weekend breakfast/brunch.

Help a vegetarian out with Boeuf Bourguignon??

Frozen pearl onions will work. We have used them and they are good. You have to slip the outer peel off of them. Much easier than fresh pearl onions with no taste difference.

Need ideas for my Panini Grill.

Pancakes, eggs, bacon, veggies, hamburgers, any meat you would grill. If it can be grilled or cooked in a skillet a Panini grill will work. Lay it flat, put the grease catcher cups out and start cooking.

Do you stick your hand down the garbage disposal?

I use tongs to go after whatever is in the disposal. No way is my hand going in there.

What to Buy at Costco?

Anything in the bakery is great. Pies are huge, so you need a group to finish them. The produce may be large amounts, but works out cheaper than Safeway even if we can't eat it all.
Any of their prepared food is very good: rotisserie chicken, shrimp salads, chicken salad, and other meals.

The Kirkland brand Vodka (Grey Goose), Bourbon(Woodford Reserve), and Tequila( Patron) are excellent and low priced.

Costco is probably the only chain that sells prime meat. All of their meat is excellent.

Your Best restaurant experience as a child? [before HS age]

I grew up in the mountains of KY, a little town called Corbin. Better known as where Colonel Sanders started serving fried chicken. He had a great restaurant. The chicken was wonderful, shrimp, pork chops, steaks, great food. My mother was not a great cook, I knew the Colonel and his Lady served good stuff.

We also had the Wilbur Hotel that served Pheasant under glass. Yes, a little mountain town had gourmet food.

I knew I wanted to eat the "fancy" food. And I continue to seek out good food.

Pizza in San Leandro, please help us

Thanks for all the suggestions. Sounds like we will have to buy dough from Safeway, keep it frozen, and make our own.

Pizza in San Leandro, please help us

We recently moved to San Leandro. We have found some nice restaurants that will keep us happy when we can't get back to Oakland or SF. But some nights we don't want to go out or cook. We want a good thin crust pizza delivered. We liked Rustica in Montclair. Here we can only find chains that are bad. All suggestions are welcome.

HydeStreet Seafood and Raw Bar is pretty good!

We have eaten here for 12 years. NEVER had a bad meal. Service is great. They remember customers. It is family run and they are great people.

Moving to Oakland. Where to eat?

Montclair has a great Mexican place, just a hole in the wall, It is across the street from the Safeway. I think it is just called a Taqueria (spelling?) A couple of doors up from the Subway. The best wet burrito ever.

Soi 4 is great Thai on College. I used to live in Upper Rockridge. You are so close to downtown. You can find all kinds of great food. Breakfast in Montclair, the Egg Shop. On Broadway Mama's Royale Cafe great breakfast. Homeroom on maybe 42nd, mac and cheese any way you can dream of.

5 burner, 30 inch cooktop

A friend is replacing an electric cooktop with gas. He wants a 5 burner, 30 inch cooktop. He wants a sealed unit. He wants it to be sturdy and smooth top( ability to put a grill on a couple of burner). Family comes often to visit and cooks while there. They have ruined and burned out the electric cooktop. So he needs something that will stand up to abuse of careless relatives.

Please help us help him with the decision of the best replacement unit. Thanks.

Re-Heating BBQ Sauce

If it says to refrigerate it, do that. It is not worth being sick over a little store bought sauce. When I reheat a sauce, I start it low and slow. But I don't use store bought sauce.

Why do you drink milk?

I love the taste of milk. It may or may not be good for me. It helps me to have strong bones. May be bad for my heart. I don't have milk for every meal as I used to. But Iove the taste. A cold glass of milk, it doesn't get any better.

Which Kitchenaide Mixer Attachment/s Do You Recommend?

We have nearly every attachement. We use the meat grinder for ground beef and sausage 90% of the time. I prefer my box grater and food processor to the attachement. Think about what you cook. What do you already have? What do you really need? some thing works just fine with a good knife. Most of my attachments take up room and just don't get used.

What to make for themed dinner--"Preserved"

I have no idea how long they would last. My friends and I don't leave any to linger. Well one time we had some that were three days old. The vodka did seem way stronger, so even better.

Wedding in SF Weekend of May 12th - Bride&Groom + 7 guests

I just want to make sure you are legal to marry in CA. I am a marriage commissioner and there are limits of who can perform marriages. What is legal in one state is not legal in another. Prpbably if you are a minister, priest, shaman, rabbi, a religious leader you will be OK. To be safe, call the the County Clerk Recorder's office of where they plan to marry. There are one day commissions, but a class is required and you have to apply in person. It is suggested you apply 2 weeks before the event.
