Recommend a trendy or upscale family style Asian restaurant in Midtown?
Wow, so many great responses, thank you so much! I am going to research them all for sure. FM1963 hit it right on the head about the atmosphere I was hoping for, as Wild Ginger in Seattle. I will do some research and let y'all know! Thank you thank you thank you!

I should also say that the folks we are celebrating with are from Alabama...not a lot of exposure to true asian food, as us Seattle-ites (and you New Yorkers :-) ) have been blessed with. Case in point, they love PF Changs and consider that upscale and exotic. So something along those lines would be appropriate for this function.
The Korean suggestion is a good one. A little familiarity with the BBQ aspect, but also still stretching their idea of safe asian food. Any specific recommendations?
Recommend a trendy or upscale family style Asian restaurant in Midtown?
We have a special occasion in Mid-town and were looking for a restaurant to accomodate a party of 16, where we'd like to serve family style Asian food. I am hoping it can be a lively place, but not terribly expensive. Asian Fusion, traditional Chinese...doesn't matter.
We're from Seattle, so we're sort of shooting in the dark. Any restaurants come to mind?
Got a cast iron "pancake puff" pan for Christmas. Any ideas on what to do with this thing?
that is sort of what I was thinking! That the application can essentially be used for anything "bite-sized" whether baked or pan-fried. I think I will start off with little frittata's and maybe the asian dumplings. Wish me luck!

Kosher, you hit the nail on the head! I am not Danish, but have a darling MIL who wants to get me the newest and greatest trends. Now I only have to figure out how to use it!

yep, thats the one! I wonder if you could even do some sort of mini fritatta application or something beyond the filled puffs?

My dear Mother In Law got me a cast iron puff pancake pan for Christmas. I have absolutely no idea what to do with it, it came with no recipes either. Has anyone used this with any success and care to share a recipe or two?
I would imagine you can do more with it than just pancakes?
Best Thai in Seattle
That's great that you had a good experience there. I have been there now a number of times and have enjoyed it very much. I don't recall seeing the Queen of Banana. What exactly is that?
Menu suggestion...what to make with Swedish Meatballs and Potato cakes
Full Tummy or Paul...do you have a recipe for rosti that you'd like to share? There is one I love that is finished with sliced tomatoes and raclette cheese...(probably too rich for this menu, but a keeper otherwise)
Menu suggestion...what to make with Swedish Meatballs and Potato cakes
that is a must! Without it is like having turkey with no cranberries! Sacrilege!
Menu suggestion...what to make with Swedish Meatballs and Potato cakes
The braised cabbage would be so nice, and colorful. I was hoping to find something that wouldn't be so monochromatic as the brown meatballs, golden potatoes. Do you have a recipe for the cabbage you'd mind sharing?
Menu suggestion...what to make with Swedish Meatballs and Potato cakes
I was thinking of something like that, to cut through the creaminess and rich flavors

that sounds like such a lovely salad!!!
Menu suggestion...what to make with Swedish Meatballs and Potato cakes
I am planning a menu for a special night with friends. I am a little torn (and stumped) about what to put with the Swedish Meatballs in a creamy lingonberry gravy and Yukon gold potato patties. I was thinking braised fennel, but the color is so similar to the other dishes, I'm afraid it would be unappetizing. I had thought of Brussels sprouts, but not everyone loves them. I think the menu needs something a little tangy or vinegary to offset the richness of the meatballs and potatoes.
Also, what would you start the meal with?
help!
Best Kept Secrets on the Eastside
wowwww, I couldn't disagree any more! I went to Chantenee expecting great things, but was SORELY disappointed. Let's make a deal...I will try Chantanee again if you give Noodle Boat another try? Have cocktails nearby, THEN go to Noodle Boat! :-)
Best Kept Secrets on the Eastside
Yep, it's still open. I was by there the other day. You have to get past the murky exterior, and go inside...the food will make you forget about the dingy storefront.
La Tarasca in Centralia. What to order there?
That seals the deal. I am having pozole and a side of corn tortillas the next time I am there. Forget the carnitas...this time! (they were really good, but time to branch out a bit)
Puyallup Fair today...is there ANYTHING to eat there?
in-DEED! love with the raspberry jam!
La Tarasca in Centralia. What to order there?
oh man, I finally tried La Tarasca and I was just thrilled. I tried the carnitas, but reeeally wanted to order more in order to savor all the wonderful recommendations. The pork was perfectly cooked, not soupy or oily like some carnitas can be, and subtly spiced so the orginal dish could shine. Of course the tortillas were amazing, and I loved the carrot salad.
I wasn't crazy about the refried beans, but whatever. With carnitas that fabulous, who cares? Next time, I am ordering enough to feed an Army so that I can sample the mole, the tamales, the pozole and the jalapenos starter. Can't wait!!!
Puyallup Fair today...is there ANYTHING to eat there?
Is it just me, or has Fair food gone downhill? Maybe I just remember being 6 and eating an elephant ear the size of a hubcap, and thinking that was the greatest thing (or the sugar induced coma that followed has blurred my recollection?).
I am going to the Fair today, but am wondering if there are any hidden treasures that I should give a try?
Looking for fun, un-stuffy, Italian style Trattoria in SEA
Calabria will do just fine. :-) Love the spicy red sauces with those calabrese peppers. Pino Rogano sounds great!
Calzone in Seattle
ooo, I am going to be in Spokane today. I am def going to Petes. Sliced meatball and Ricotta calzone? Be still, my beating heart!

mmm, I hear linguini con vongole calling my name! These are all great suggestions, who knew?!
Best Thai in Seattle
mmm, I will have to ask about the wings, that sounds awesome! As simple as it is, I also enjoy their fried prawn appetizer. It's really nothing more than prawns wrapped in an egg role wrapper, with a vinegary plum sauce. But sometimes simple is better, right?
I love their Tom Kah Gai. It's really a great blend of sweet, rich and salty without being cloyingly coconuty. (is that a word? )

I guess when I think of Bologna or Roma true Italian, I am thinking of that simple rustic preparation that Italians do so well. It doesn't have to have a mound of cheese, or a huge pile of stuffed ravioli...just quality ingredients that shine in the simple preparation. Now, if I could have that, with that incomparable Italian energy buzz that happens in the neighborhood eateries, I would be in heaven.
Now, unfortunately if I don't find that here, I might be forced to visit Italy again. And wouldn't that be a shame? :-)

Why is it that most Italian restaurants in Seattle seem to fit into two camps. Either a) stuffy, pricey and over-rated. Or b) glorified Spaghetti Factory.
I am dying to find a lively Italian restaurant, that serves Italian food (not just spaghetti and meatballs and calls itself Italian), like you'd find in Bologna or Roma. Simple pastas, maybe a pizza or two, Italian wine, real tiramisu...is this too much to ask?
Am I the only one who thinks there has to be middle ground between our typical Seattle Italian options?
Best Kept Secrets on the Eastside
I am right by El Rinconsito once a week, so I will pop in there next time. Any rec's on what is good there?

What do you like to get at Facing East? I will be by there today, coincidentally!
