Help a Foodie out... Seattle Advice

Hello all,

I am going to be in Seattle at the end of May and only for about four days. I am eager to experience as much as I can. Due to the limited amount of time, does anyone have any MUST eat at restaurants and MUST go to markets? Any food trucks I am hearing so much about? I am specifically hoping to find Wild Mushrooms in the markets.

Thanks and looking forward to Seattle!

Costa Rica: Central Pacific Side

Funny you mention El Galeon, I have been there and agree it is a great meal/experience. Bit I did find it was geared toward the tourists. I aim to find some amazing local gems (markets included).

Costa Rica: Central Pacific Side

I am going to Costa Rica this Winter and was looking for any recommendations for must go to restaurants and foodie spots (markets etc.).

I am centralized around Jaco but am hoping to travel around the surrounding area, perhaps to Manuel Antonio.

If anyone has any suggestions let me know! Thanks

I have never heard of Kalamata Grocery but that sounds right up my alley! Thanks, I am looking forward to checking it out. Do you know specifically if they have Halloumi?

Looking for Haloumi!

Hey all,

I have wanted to try Haloumi cheese for a while now and don't even know where to begin looking. It is a Mediterranean cheese that has such a high melting temperature that you can grill it, sounds good to me! Any recommendations?

Thanks!

Foodie's Day Out

Thanks for the advice,

I have been to the cookbook company yes, I like it alot.

I have not been to NAGA, that sounds like it is right up my alley.

And I haven't been to the Harvest Hills T&T so I will check that out.

Anyone been to any of the Filipino food stores in town?

Foodie's Day Out

Now that the winter break has rolled around, I wanted to take this opportunity to enjoy some foodie destinations around Calgary.

I was looking more for markets and things that would be fun/interesting to go to.

I was looking at checking out Calgary's "Little India" and some Indian markets, also looking at some of the Filipino markets in town. I also want to go and check out Blush Lane.

Does anyone have any recommendations for some food market adventures?

-Thanks

Special Dinner in Calgary

I have been to Teatro but heard it wasn't a great as it used to be since it changed ownership.

We ended up going to Capo and had a great dinner. Thanks for the advice :)

Special Dinner in Calgary

That is unfortunate about your evening at Rush.

I hadn't considered Chef's Table. Would anyone recommend what would be the best for quality for price? I find sometimes I end up paying a lot for something I don't agree on.

I think I have narrowed down the list to Capo, Chef's Table. The comments and Alloy's head chef on leave and the service complaints at Rush make me hesitant.

Thanks for all the feed back in such short notice! Our dinner is tonight so I am going to have to make up my mind asap.

Thanks all!

Special Dinner in Calgary

So I know alot of these topics are posted but I am looking for a special dinner out in Calgary. I am tempted to go back to Capo but I was considering trying something new; rush, alloy, rouge, or blink. Preferably upscale with an impressing menu and atmosphere.

Would anyone have any opinions?

Thanks!

Black Vodka in Calgary

I will check Willowpark thank you.

I have been doing some research and it is colored from the catechu extract from the Acacai shrub. Some debate whether or not this affects the taste but apparantly it is often chosen in blind taste tests. It is very black too! And yes thinking ahead for Halloween.

Cheers!

Black Vodka in Calgary

Hey all,

I was wondering if anyone knew where to get Black Vodka in Calgary. One of the most popular brands in North America is Blavod. Hopefully someone can help me out!

Thanks :)

Calgary Farmer's Markets 2009

I thought I would get a conversation started about 2009's Calgary Farmer's Markets. I was wondering about any gems out there that are amongst the masses in Calgary. I thought this chain would be a great way to find out what the markets have to offer and what are fan favorites. At times strolling around the markets (although enjoyable) can be a bit daunting and overwhelming, and I often find myself asking where should I go and what are the highlights? So feel free to share just what it is that you love in the 2009's Farmer's Markets so everyone can make the best of what the season and vendors have to offer!

Thanks!

What do people think of Blink in Calgary?

All good comments. I was just curious as to what people thought about it because whenever people list off their top Calgary restaurants I never hear Blink mentioned. Well as my budget is tight also, next time an occasion comes up that gives me an excuse to celebrate, I hope to try Blink!

Thanks guys

Hey fellow Canadian! Ha ha

Maze definitely seems to be up my alley, it appeals to me most out of the Ramsay restaurants. What were some examples of your courses if you don't mind sharing?

I will look into St. John and Bread and Wine. What about them makes you describe them as unusual?

Thanks for the advice :)

I was just wondering if anyone had been to Blink in Calgary and what they thought about it. I am planning on going myself and was wondering what people had to say about it.

Alloy in Calgary

Thanks guys,

Yea I was just curious about value for your dollar. I heard it was pricey and was wondering whether it was worth it.

I think I am going to give a go though, and come up with my own review :P

Any menu suggestions?

Fine Dining in Edinburgh and London

Thanks guys.

And I am from Canada.

I have heard of Maze, that was actually the Ramsay restaurant that intrigued me most. Would you recommend that one above the rest of his?

I also looks at the restaurant at the Balmoral, it looks great.

Never heard of 21212, Martin Wishart, or The Plumed Horse but I will definitely look them up!

Any other suggestions?

Fine Dining in Edinburgh and London

Next Spring my boyfriend and I are headed to both London and Edinburgh and I was looking for some suggestions as to where to go out and have an unforgettable experience. We were thinking of trying out the big names (Jamie Oliver's Fifteen and a Gordon Ramsay restaurant in London). In Edinburgh I have been looking at The Kitchin. We are looking for a really special and memorable meal and I am sure we are bound to find it in both great cities!

Thanks!

Dining options in Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper

If you are headed through Canmore or feel like stopping in...

I would suggest the Quarry; casual Italian with an upscale twist. The Quarry Bistro is also right on main street so it is in a great location for wandering afterward. O bistro is great (Braised lamb shank is a must!).

But if I had to choose I would head to Tapas in Canmore. It is based on the traditional tapas fare of Spain, you pick and choose a cople small plates each and share. Tapas is a lot of fun and very tasty (have the Patatas Bravas!)

Hope this helps,
Cheers!

Fine dining meal in Calgary for a special moment

My vote would be for Capo. It is a nice and cozy surrounding, intimate and sophisticated. The service is great there and the food is always a winner. I would definitely go there. It is my go to for special occasions.

The Catch is an option too, nice service and great food. And their head chef just won Gold in the Canadian Culinary Championships 2009. But as I said before, I would still go with Capo.

CAPO!
