Any great Thai / Indian restaurants in the Westside?

For Thai on the westside, we like Bangkok West. Its pricey for the portions, but its the only place I've found that doesn't do the super sweet pad thai. All the dishes we've had from them (from curries to veggies to fish) have been good. (They also deliver, a big plus!) Usually we'll head to Thai Town on the weekend--about 30 min away--Ruen Pair is our favorite.

For Chinese we like Hop Li on Santa Monica Blvd in West LA--reminds me of Silver House in San Mateo--fast, good portions and good homey food

Sacramento Chinese bakery/supermarket?

Is there a Chinese bakery somewhere around Sacramento? Like a Sheng Kee? Someplace with breads, cakes, stuff like that?

Also, is there another Chinese supermarket around here besides SF market?

Thanks!

Good Thai in Sacramento?

Thai: In North Natomas, we love Bangkok garden--reasonable prices and yummy food! In Midtown, we go to Thai Basil on 23rd and J (around that area in Midtown)...

Japenese: Zen Sushi on like 15th and I, Ju Hibachi on S and 23 (?)

Chinese: New canton on Broadway, around 26th?

Sacramento - Chicago Fire Pizza

We haven't tried Chicago Fire--the wait was too long the night we went (decided on Thai Basil that night)--but we have been to Zeldas. It was ok. Nothing spectacular, though I know people that love it. I prefer a pan pizza over chicago style though

Davis Saturday Farmer's Market

Yes--there are a few bakeries that have breakfast items--croissants, breads, cinnamon rolls...the co-op also has a brunch station, with 2 types of breakfast sandwiches...also, right across the street is Crepeville and they have some yummy food--my favorite is the french toast with fruit! Its cash only there though...

Maru Maru--San Mateo

Just went to Maru Maru (2nd Ave--where Kyoto used to be) last night and YUMMY! They have huge portions and great service! I had the combo dinner--tempura/teri chicken and ca roll ($18)--came with salad, soup and potato/egg salad. It was so huge there was no way I was finishing it! Husband had the sashimi dinner--12 pieces ($21?) and also came with soup/salad. My mom had a combo as well: tonkasu/tempura and sashimi.

The place is completly remodeled and beautiful inside! Not too busy for a saturday night, but I know we will be back! Our server was great and prompt.

Reports on The Kitchen, Sacramento (Not the new Chinese place)?

Yep-we went there for valentine's day last year--it was a great dining experience! Had a lot of stuff that I normally wouldn't try! The Oct menu looks pretty good too!! Its like a 4 hour event--with so much food. They have small portions so that you can try everything, but you can always get seconds (or thirds, or fourths...). They'll also make you whatever you want--My husband asked about their kobe beef that they used in their ravioli, and so they made us some kobe beef carpaccio! Excellent service! Definately a treat!

Just wondering if there were any decent Shanghainese (sp?) food in Sac...somewhere with the soy bean milk, chinese doughnut, chinese pancakes, "sil long bao", thick chow mein...I saw someplace in West davis, but haven't tried it yet...looking for something like the Shanghai Noodle Shop in Milbrae...

Thanks!

Big Island (Kona Region) Eats?

I second Cafe Pesto--one of our favorite stops! O's Bistro is good too (though we liked it better when it was Oodles of Noodles!)

For a fancy night out, we like the Four Seasons Hualalai...beautiful views!

Best Maui Luau?

We like the Feast at Lele--its not a typical luau--its a private table and not a buffet--we really liked it!

Maui restaurant recommendations please

We thought Mama's was way too pricey ($90 for lunch for 2--NO drinks or appetizers/desserts)...The food was just OK.

Last time we had breakfast at the Plantation House and it was yummy! We also like Roy's (yes, its a chain, but we still like it)...Kimo's is good as well (and a great view!)

In March, we did the Feast at lele--different from a luau, but excellent food!

aloha!
