Regional favorite that you just didn't get once you finally had a chance to try it

RAISING CANE'S in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

TASTELESS, SOGGY, BLAND, GREASY ALL AT THE SAME TIME. The Cane's Sauce everyone raves about is mayo, ketchup and black pepper. And it's EXPENSIVE!! For three chicken strips, soggy freezer fries, a greasy piece of toast, nasty/mushy cole slaw and a drink (sold separately) you're out $10.

What is the most overrated food city?

No, not exclusively bad chains. Also, bad standalone restaurants, like the pho place and the place connected to the hotel.

You sound mighty defensive!

Also, James, I did do research. The places we went to were SUPPOSED to be "the best". Although I don't remember their names, just do a Google search and you'll find 'em. Top rated in your city.

Most Overrated Dishes

A few months ago, I went to what is supposed to be the best brunch spot in Chicago. Can't remember what the name of the place is, but it's gaudily Grandma-decorated and a bit pricey. Everything is a la carte. I had challa French toast which was okay, but I can make better food at home, get better service, and deal with less pretension.

Sweet Corn Humitas

You're seriously advising people to substitute feta? I'm so grossed out by all these modern Mexican recipes that use feta! It is NOT right!! GROSS!!!

What is the most overrated food city?

Houston: OVERRATED.

I used to travel to Houston constantly for work. All the people I worked with gabbed incessantly about how Houston had amazing food, and made fun of me for being from Baton Rouge.

Houston is a HUGE city, but it's also a city filled almost EXCLUSIVELY with bad chain restaurants. Fogo de Chao was my coworker's idea of a truly delicious, fancy dinner. For lunch my coworkers would take me to a terrible pho place, or a Mexican restaurant that was -- horror of horrors -- attached to a hotel.

I never had anything to eat in Houston that was remarkable... And I can't even tell ya how many places I ate at...

What is the most overrated food city?

Boooo. Hissss.

The question is not "What is the least diverse food city?"

New Orleans has never claimed to be diverse. NOLA is a Creole town with some Cajun. Dabs of Italian, French and Spanish. Nowhere else in the Western Hemisphere will you get that mix!!!

Food that makes you particularly sad?

What's wrong with adding Tabasco or ketchup if they are things you like? I lived in Louisiana for five years and got addicted to Louisiana brand hot sauce. It is one of those things I put on EVERYTHING I eat now, simply because I like it. Who gives a rip?

Popeyes Fried Chicken - Change of Recipe?

I'm sorry, but I HIGHLY doubt the spiciness of anything in TO is comparable to anything in Louisiana. Most of the food I've had here has really lacked in flavor, even the Mexican food. The only place I've eaten that wasn't afraid to use spice is Gandhi, and they are notorious for the spice factor.

When you order spicy chicken at Popeye's in Louisiana you will need a jumbo sized sweet tea to wash it down even if you are a native.

My mom always are raw ground round on caraway rye with raw onion and a tiny bit of ketchup. Or instead of ground round, liverwurst. Yummmm.

Good Eats In Milwaukee?

It's not Tex-Mex, but different Mexican than you've ever had before. Cempazuchi uses 18th century Oaxacan recipes. Haven't been there for years, but I'm moving back to MKE this weekend and can hardly wait to go back to my favorite restaurant.

And you can't spend any amount of time in MKE without having some good German food. Some of the best places have closed (John Ernst, The Wurst Haus) but Mader's is still up and kickin'.

For something a little different, try one of my other favorites: Guinness and Irish fare at County Clare Inn (http://www.countyclare-inn.com). They are located at 1234 Astor Street. Their meatloaf and mashed potatoes are to die for.

Really Crappy Unhealthy Disgusting Toe-curling Junkfood!

I can't believe nobody has mentioned my #1 guilty pleasure:

WAFFLE HOUSE!!!

When I lived in Louisiana I was there multiple times a week. Their hashbrowns are to die for!! And their waffles, of course.

My other addictions, surprisingly nobody has mentioned these:
Flamin' Hot Cheetos, the crunchy kind
Twix bars
Potato chips with chocolate/Nutella
Kraft macaroni and cheese

Popeyes Fried Chicken - Change of Recipe?

I did try Canadian Popeye's last week. The seasoning was close but still slightly mild compared to how it is back home. It was slightly over fried but just slightly.

The biscuit was TOO DRY!! Not enough butter. The Cajun rice ("dirty rice" as we call it) was also WAAAAYYY too dry and didn't have any gizzards... If you get the dirty rice down South it has lots of nice gizzards & livers.

Where is the best Mexican in Toronto?

NOT AUTHENTIC!!! Not sure what your friend was smoking!! Nowhere in Mexico will they combine potatoes and chorizo, serve it on a flour tortilla and dare to call it a taco.

JB has some of the WORST, most flavorless "Mexican" ever. Honestly even Chipotle is better in both regards.
