Suggestions for Santa Clarita

I just tried Cathy's Deli because of the recommendations here and I'm very sad to say that my meal was basically inedible. To be fair, I'm now pretty certain I ordered the worst thing I possibly could. But I still think I should warn others so they don't make the same stupid mistake I made. I got the "light lunch (1/2 sandwich, 1 side)" baked ham sandwich on white bread (the waiter recommended the white bread) with a side salad and small sprite. The sandwich was just a pile of ham between two pieces of white bread, that's it. Neither the ham nor the bread was good enough to make this even remotely interesting. The salad was slightly better, but still incredibly boring. It was just lettuce with a few chopped tomatoes and some alright sourdough croutons. The balsamic dressing that came with it was very clearly store bought stuff from a bottle, and not very good. I took about 2 bites of the sandwich and picked at the salad but basically left the plate full, and although the waiter never came back to check on me after putting the food down, he clearly noticed how uneaten my food was when he dropped off the check, but didn’t seam the least bit concerned. This spectacular meal cost me almost $13, without tip!!! I was more tempted then I’ve ever been to return the food and refuse to pay. Granted I obviously should have ordered the pastrami or corned beef or something greasy. But that meal was so disappointing and ridiculously overpriced, I definitely won’t go back.

Dinner Review at Chiba's Sushi-on Saticoy

I go to Chiba at least once a week and it's always amazingly good. And they are always so nice!
All of the sushi is fantastic, but I would recommend going with an omakase to really make the best of your experience.

Dinner in Burbank?

I have to say I've also had a terrible experience there, I would definitely not go back.

Guilty Pleasure

Yes! So, so good! I really miss those too! For me their best toasted, the hotter the better.

the best SANDWICH in (Los Angeles) period.

I just tried their regular sub yesterday (the waitress said it was her favorite) and I have to say I was really frustrated by it. It was stacked WAY to high and it was completely impossible to get a bite with even half of the ingredients in it. It didn't really taste that great either.

NEW TO BURBANK, SEEKING STAPLE EATERIES IN THE GREATER BURBANK AREA

Some of the best places I've found so far in and around Burbank are:
Chiba (Japanese)-actually in North Hollywood I think, but well worth the short drive! Really, great food for really, really great prices. I don't know why it doesn't get more attention on these boards.
Joy Feast (Chinese)
San Toros (Subs.)
Osaka Teriyaki (surprisingly good Korean BBQ)
Porto's Bakery (really good Dulce de Leche dessert)
Dino's Pizza (good pizza, but I'll admit I usually go for their antipasti salad, it's simple, tasty and satisfying)
Bravo (It's actually in Glendale. Good Kabobs, I also really like their salads)
EAT (In North Hollywood, but well worth the drive, great breakfasts)

What do Chowhounds do for a living (besides eat of course)?

I'm 21, and a student getting my BFA in piano performance. I have to agree that there is some connection between being a creative person and being a foodie. I think it has to do with giving a lot of time to your sences, and also food is of course art just as much as anything else.
As you can imagine I don't have any money but when I do have a little I spend all of it on food.

What do you have for lunch at home? (moved from Outer Boroughs board)

I generally try to have a pretty healthy lunch so I can eat a more interesting dinner. I like to make salads because there quick, relatively healthy, and I can be creative with them and do something different every day. I usually just put in whatever I have lying around. But I few good combinations are a chinese salad (mandarin oranges, almonds, those crispy won-ton thingies, tomatoes, and sometimes green onion with a chinese salad dressing) also a greek salad (kalamata olives, feta cheese, tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions, olive oil and vinegar). I have to say though I have the most fun when I'm just trying to use up leftovers and put everything in it and then dress it with balsamic vinegar (I could drink balsamic vinegar) and olive oil.

Guilty Pleasure

A guilty pleasure of mine would have to be just about anything burnt (toast, pasta, casseroles, anything bready), it reminds me of my mom's cooking.
Also Cinnabons, Reeses Peanut Butter cups, Tuna Helper (the meal in a box kind), Panda Express' orange chicken, Arby's plane roast beef sandwich, the cinnamon sugar swirl bread at Costco, and of course Flamin' Hot Cheetos.

Suggestions for Santa Clarita

The best restaurant I've found in Santa Clarita is Athena's in Canyon Country. They have great greek food for very reasonable prices. I would also recommend Nardone's, the lasagna is pretty good.
