"Relaxing weekend with food by a pond? Suggestions for accommodations near good food?" has been moved
In that case, post a thread on the Northern New England board. :D
What time do you all eat dinner?
It depends on what we're eating. I get home from work about 6:30pm. If we're eating stir fry, we're eating about 7:15pm. Fish, same time. Cooked chicken from the store, 7pm. Leftovers microwaved, 6:45pm! When we go out, I like to have reservations for 7pm, my dh prefers 6:30pm. When we go out with our friends who are European, we have 7:30pm reservations. :D
Relaxing weekend with food by a pond? Suggestions for accommodations near good food? [moved from Greater Boston Bd]
trufflehound has actually the answer to your question. The Sturbridge Host Hotel is on a lake! BT's is just down the street! There is also a restaurant on the grounds, not particularly chowish, but it has patio seating, a screened in porch seating, and indoor seating.
Can't Get Enough Splenda
Ron L, my post got linked to someone else. Here's what I wrote:
I only use sugar, in baking and cooking. It took a while, but when I was in my 20's, I weaned myself off of having a little tea or coffee with my sugar. I don't use it, and never have missed it once I gave it up. I'm wondering if the super sweetness of these products has caused your taste buds / brain to not recognize sweetness unless it's so strong. I think you're missing out on the true flavor of the yogurt, fruit, etc. Try cutting back a little, I'd be curious to see what your response is. I don't crave sweetness, as much as I crave tart, spicy, savory flavors, and I think it may be due to the absence of added sugar to my food and drinks.

Hi sandylc, no I was addressing Ron L, the OP. I do notice this happens, I clicked on "reply to original post", and somehow it linked to you.
Gee, I hope Ron L got my post. I'm going to try posting it again. Thanks for the heads up.
Celebratory girls' night in Back Bay early June?
I've not been to any of those 3 places, so I'll let others advise on them. Having a similar penchant for French cuisine, I can recommend La Voile on Newbury St., and Brasserie Jo. Newbury St. is great for an evening stroll. Brasserie Jo is not so much in a pleasing stroll area, though the Christian Science Church property is nice to walk by.
Day Trip suggestions in Boston - Walking from Faneuil Hall to Fenway
Go for a ride on the swan boats, they're just lovely. If it's a beautiful day, you'll want to stay here forever!
Where can I find crumpets?
I get them at the Star Mkt on rte 9 in Chestnut Hill, and the small one on Beacon St. in Brookline. I used to live in the UK, and they're pretty close to the original.
Dinner with old friends before wedding
You're welcome! I would also choose Brasserie Jo. It's very easy to have conversation, and the food is great. Coda is more informal, quite lively.

Also, search for South End. Here's a thread I started, and got some great suggestions.

West Bridge - Kendall Square
Correct name is West Bridge. No particulars on their website, http://www.westbridgerestaurant.com/
Someone on the restaurant's fb wrote that they ate there, liked the duck, egg in a jar, and cucumber cocktail.

I would like to tell you about the food at Orinoco (Brookline)
Place is always crazy busy, no matter what the weather. I find you have to get there practically when they open to avoid a wait.
Teaching children to behave at restaurants
An anecdote to share - When the little cookie was 3, he and I were having dinner in a Chinese restaurant. He had his elbows on the table, he was resting his chin on his hands. I explained to him that it is considered bad manners to have ones elbows on the table. He said to me, "But Mom, if I take away my elbows, gravity will make my face fall into my food." At that moment, he took his hands away from his face, and let his face fall into his food! Priceless!
Except for a phase when he and his cousins were 1-3, we dined in when we were all together. After that, they were able to sit longer, enjoy the company of each other and adults, and enjoy eating at the same pace as adults. We did have books at the ready, usually needed at the very end of the meal.
What would Emily Post do? [moved from New Orleans]
Exactly. And, I would have told management, if they felt they couldn't deal with it, they could comp your meal, because you were leaving because of the abuse. I know it wasn't directed at you, but it is still harassment.
What is the appeal of Fox and Hound???
I haven't been there for a few years. We always had good service. The food was well prepared, your basics, steak tips, mussels, nothing special. What I did notice was that it was very much a local watering hole. Except for our party, it seemed like everyone knew each other, and the wait staff.
Things kids think are "normal" these days...
My mother used to render chicken fat and onions to make schmaltz. She called it "liquid gold". She's gone now, and it's only recently I realized her little secret - she NEVER shared the gribenes with her children!!!
Sunday Lunch in Watertown
It's true, we don't like the same resto's, oc. Luckily for both of us, we both have lots of friends who share our tastes.
Done with Chez Henri
That's too bad. I'm hoping it was an off night for them. I've always been amazed my how much they go out of their way for me. Could be because I'm the oldest person by decades that dines there...
Done with Chez Henri
I dined there about 2yrs ago. I was rather surprised by the poor service. The waiter acted like he was doing us a favor by serving us. He had quite the 'tude. I understand the separate menu for the bar, but when my two choices of entree weren't available, I thought they could have bent the rule and let me have the cubano.
Need North End Restaurant for visiting parents and awful toddler
With all due respect, MrsCheese, it sounds like from your last sentence you reread your own post, and answered your own question. We also went through this phase with the little cookie. If you don't want to cook, how about ordering in and everyone can enjoy themselves without the added stress. I totally understand Grandma's request, but sometimes the kids just aren't able to cooperate at that moment in time. The little cheese might be able to cope with the situation in 6 months - one year from now, and everyone will then enjoy. I don't know your child's Grandma, but I know my child's loved the idea of us all going out, but wasn't happy when it wasn't the experience she was hoping for.

phelena, I think it will be totally fine. It's just one meal, and you and your mom will have a nice time together!
Thanks for articulating my feelings, veggielover. :)
mohotta, I think it's the dinner menu where Strip T's shine. That's when the son cooks.
Sunday Lunch in Watertown
... except that Strip T's which is fabulous, isn't open for lunch on Sunday.
phelena, another suggestion is Joyful Garden, on Western Ave in Brighton. Not too far from the Watertown border. It is Chinese food, a combination of authentic and Americanized choices.

I'm sorry to sound snappish, but I find it frustrating on chowhound when posters dismiss a place they haven't been to for a while. I have to disagree with the reviews of others. I go to the Aegean, about 6 times/year, and have been for about 6 years. It's a family style restaurant. The food is delicious. I go with all ages, and no one I've dined with there has ever complained about anything. The place is always full.
Il Casale..and Bruins win!
I don't know, digga. I wasn't too impressed with the service at Sweet Cheeks. My requests for extra maple butter were ignored. STAY AWAY FROM THEIR BRISKET. It's just awful. Go to BT's , have the brisket, and you'll see what I mean. I did like the short ribs, and the mac and cheese. The butterscotch pudding had a salt layer which was too much of it, and we weren't told it would be there, which I thought strange.

I am a regular at the Aegean. We've been going for many years, and have never had a bad meal. I love their lamb riblets entree. The saganaki is great. They have their own salad dressing, not a creamy one, and you can get it on the side. You can get the feta on the side. The seafood is very good. My dc also vouches for the kebabs.
