Cherries in Morgan Hill: Andy's Orchard and Mariani Orchards Roadside Cherry Stand

Not related to Andy's or Mariani's, but Lazy K Ranch and their "u-pick" cherries in Gilroy are closed this year again for the second year in a row. They said they didn't get enough fruit on the trees because they didn't get enough chill hours. :(

Tony's Pizza - the St. Louis Style [San Francisco]

I lived in St. Louis for around 3 years and while St. Louis style still was at first disgusting (that PROVEL ugh), I eventually grew to like it since it was the only pizza option in town really.

It's not my first choice but something I would eat now and then just to change things up a bit. There's actually a few days where I miss it and would order it if a place nearby offered it, but it wouldn't be a regular thing.

Masterchef returns with new judge

I have a huge celeb chef crush on Christina Tosi from her appearances on late night talk shows like Conan, and, from the fact that she's David Chang's pastry chef (David is the f'ing man). That being said I've taped the first three episodes of MC hoping she'd be like she was on the talk shows but from the sounds of it, it looks like I'm going to be disappointed.

My least favorite reviews are the ones that turn their visit in what should just be eating a meal into some daily diary on life.

I still watch for the one-liners and I'll know after the first episode if it'll be a funny season. It's all about the contestants and whether or not they can deliver a line.

Best New Restaurant = Worst new show

I wouldn't write this show off completely because it has some new restaurants I would otherwise have never come across. It does have some overly contrived elements that make my stomach turn (the secret diner segment in particular).

Worst new show though is Food Fortunes. That show is such a horrible rip off of Shark Tank it's criminal.

85 Degrees C (85C) Bakery Taiwanese chain coming to Bay Area (potentially Newark / Union City / Fremont)

The new 85 Degree bakery on Barber Lane in Milpitas opened up last week. It's in the complex where the ABC Seafood dim sum is located, but it's located in the REAR of the complex...you can't see the storefront from the street but you need to park/walk around to the back.

Odd thing though - while I'm one of 85 Degrees' biggest fans, I stopped by this morning to pick up some stuff to bring into work, and some of the baked items had an extremely off-putting "plastic" taste to the dough. Any have a similar experience here or elsewhere? It was a plastic/chemical taste that was very pronounced.

There's going to either be an occasional bad experience at any restaurant and/or there's a segment out there full of themselves who just use Yelp for personal gain or to feel important.

On the flipside there's also going to be friends of the business posting glowing reviews.

I'm hoping that the general population with half a brain will be able to read through the reviews of a place and realize that these outlaying reviews are the exception and not the norm.

I buy the shucked oysters in a jar from Costco and eat them raw out of the jar. Have never gotten sick and they taste fine to me!

Best Korean in Santa Clara (or in general South Bay/Peninsula)?

I recently went to a place called Chungdam in Santa Clara that just opened a couple of months ago, and I think it's the best Korean food in Santa Clara, and better than a lot of places in LA as well. It's a little on the pricey side and it has some "fusion" elements, but the place is clean and modern, a bit upscale, and the service is amazing. Dishes were shared with the people I was with, we ordered the yangnyum galbi, pork bulgogi, haemoolsoondubu, and chungdam bibimbap. Everything was good and I wouldn't hesitate to re-order any of the above, but they have other menu items I want to try first. One other thing that stood out was that the freshness of the banchan compared to many other Korean places I've been too. Maybe another person on this board can check them out and write a more detailed/foodie type of review, but this place is fantastic.

Chickens have gotten ridiculously large since the 1950s

I'm sure these things are force fed and stuffed full of "supplements" to make them grow faster and bigger, but, when I pick out my Foster Farms rotisserie chicken at Costco I still look for the one with the biggest slabs of breast meat, since they're all sold by unit instead of weight.

The food's terrible...and such large portions

If you want to exclude buffets, I'm inclined to mention Cheesecake Factory. I like their cheesecake, but I find a lot of their entrees overly salty that try to impress you with portion/presentation.

Hell's Kitchen-it was never good but now it is so bad

Hell's Kitchen is a guilty pleasure. My favorite parts are the little snippets the contestants make in their "confessional" clips where they talk into the camera. They're probably scripted but some of the contestants have great delivery of those lines, and, the accompanying sound effects are perfect. Total crack up for me lol

Their carrot cake is awesome, but deadly! Also, the brownie brittle (plain or even better over vanilla ice cream) is hard to control once you eat one piece.

Joes Crab Shack

I was born and raised in California and after college went to St Louis/Atlanta for jobs. I had not eaten my beloved dungeness crab in years, saw a Joe's Crab Shack in Atlanta. Decided to get some dungeness crab there, 1/10. Tasted nothing like the sweet savory dungeness crab I grew up eating, was just completely flavorless crab meat. It was as if the crab was cooked, frozen, thawed (where all the flavor thawed out), then steamed to re-heat which removed any last traces of crab flavor. By the time I ate it, it tasted like nothing. It also cost an arm and a leg, would never ever ever ever go back.
