Le Creuset dilemma

I'm in the skittle camp too. I've found various pieces in different shades on sale here and there. I love the bright variety. Red is easy to find in discount areas. Flame is harder for finding in places like tjmaxx but you can find it at the outlets, but I do like that color and agree it's not likely to discontinue.

Measuring Spoons - are there any on the market that aren't pure Chinese junk?

I have had these for years and they have worked great for me:

I've also loved these measuring cups:

Shun Chefs Knife!!!

Congratulations on your project and your personal prize!
I have several Shuns and love them.. they are a pleasure to use every time!
Enjoy!

What is this??? Any ideas???

OK.. it's been a while since I've been microwave shopping.

I did have one several years back that had the interior lining in metal and a rack but it had a convection feature.

The one I have now is a little older but so much roomier than that one, but holds to the old standard of no metal.

I didn't realize there were some out there now that are microwave only but allow some type of metal.

What is this??? Any ideas???

without a picture and the idea of a handle clamping on sounds like something you use in a toaster oven.
If it has metal on it.. it wouldn't go in the microwave, unless it was one of those multi purpose convection/microwave ovens.

Staub -- cherry red vs pimento red vs W-S red

Call it something different it becomes "exclusive".. a rose is still a rose.. and if it walks like a duck..

Le Creuset Dijon Or Citron Yellow?

I'm going to go against the norm here. I like the bolder Dijon.
Citron makes me think of little girls pastel easter dresses, not that that's a bad thing.
Dijon just reminds me so much more of a bright sun on a beautiful day.

Le Creuset... Am I paying for the name?

I've wondered about that .. seems the tin foil would amplify the heat to me. but I'm sure there is a scientific explanation around here about tin dispersing the heat or something.

Le Creuset... Am I paying for the name?

It's very good info. LC does sell stainless steel knobs as an extra.
Some here have gone to the hardware store and purchased drawer knobs instead and use those.

I like my LC Doufeu.. it is all cast iron.. no knobs.. handles on the side.
However, like all of these pots, it is heavy.. this one maybe more so and of course you can't forget to use a pot holder.

Le Creuset... Am I paying for the name?

You've got a lot of info here on Warranty, mfg site and so forth..

For what it's worth, I love the LC.. I have not paid full price for a piece.
I've found seconds or sales anywhere from 30-50% off at the LC outlet or other vendors. So far, I love them all.

I have one enameled cast iron by Chantal. It has held up just fine as well.
I have no reason to knock this line.. I just personally wanted an LC or Staub.
LC was where I found my better pricing during shopping around.

I did attempt to "save money" and purchase the cuisinart line.
However, after being wrapped and carted home.. and carefully bringing them inside.. I found from store to house they were already chipping and enamel coming off. Right back to the store they went.
I'd rather spend the money I spent on two of their pots on one LC or Staub.
And that's what I've done ever since.

best cookbook for the cooking of louisiana/ new orleans?

The recipe for the shrimp is on the web site and it is outstanding and so easy. The Brennan's recipe for Crawfish Ettouffee is always a hit as well.
I can't get fresh crawfish here so have to use frozen. Both of these dishes I've made many times and everyone always loves them.

Does anyone use the Chefs Choice M130 knife sharpener?

I haven't had to yet. The Cooks Warehouse in Atlanta has a guy that comes in there with his own stones and strops. I may take them there when the time comes.

Or.. I may get something like the chefs choice 15/20.. I haven't made up my mind yet.

I Want to Toast a SINGLE Piece of Bread

what about a toaster that is designed longer lengthwise to accommodate two slices in one well.
Wouldn't that work? It would be the same application of heat whether it held one or two slices at all times.

Does anyone use the Chefs Choice M130 knife sharpener?

Hi Chem.. I imagine they are referring to companies who are making the popular Santoku blades, but maintaining the 20 degree edge they use on all their other knives. So, Asian is probably just a blanket description of general style here, not the angle.

Bittman - 25 faves - The Minimalist Last Weekly Column

I know many of you have probably already seen this, but I've seen the name Bittman around here several times. :)

So for those who haven't.. and if it's not already been shared.. here is a link to Bittman's 25 favorite recipes from The Minimalist column that is coming to an end.

1st trip to Le Creuset outlet- WOW

If you call the one nearest you, they'll answer your questions on color, price, sales, etc.. give them a call.. and see what kind of specials are going on for the piece you want.

the outlet seconds are such substantial savings because there may be a pin point of missed color.. some are more noticeable than others.. so when a box is brought to you, look it over well.
Almost all of mine are seconds and almost impossible to find the imperfection. I have had one brought out where it was noticeable.. so I always inspect before ringing up.. they'll bring out another box if need be until you are happy. :)

Enabling those who didn't buy the LC 2.5 qt. doufeu!

To me it seemed more of a dark teal gray.. it was pretty and very glossy. Definitely not christmas like.
Just wasn't my preference.

Enabling those who didn't buy the LC 2.5 qt. doufeu!

I'm with hobby on this one. I enjoy the variety of color.
I have a couple cobalt, red, dijon and flame.

If you are worried about red or orange.. why not order the Dune off the website.. it's more of a Sand color and more neutral. It's still there at the moment.

Enabling those who didn't buy the LC 2.5 qt. doufeu!

I wish they would have had the flame here.. I love that color.
It's so cheerful.
The red is nice as well and it is gradiated.. that's what I ended up with.
The ocean is pretty, but it seemed just too gray to me.

Le Creuset 5.5 Round help please! What's your favorite thing to make in it?

Where's the "like" button? :)

Enabling those who didn't buy the LC 2.5 qt. doufeu!

I suppose I was lucky with the one here.. I called and asked and they didn't know about the online price. They saw that it was on there.. and even thought the red was sold out online, they still price matched it for me. They are now out of red, there was one left in cobalt and I know one left in Ocean.

best cookbook for the cooking of louisiana/ new orleans?

I know I'm late to the table on this one.
I've just recently picked up the book by Chef Besh and am looking forward to sitting down and reading through it.
Have you made many of the recipes since this last post almost a year ago?

I also love this one from Brennan's.

Mysterious numbers under the lids of my L.C. pots- what do they refer to?

glad I could help!

Le Creuset mini cocotte color?

good ideas on the warm dipping sauce!
I have some knock off cast iron enameled minis I use for salt and seasonings.. never thought of the coffee warmers!

Flavorwave Oven Deluxe

someone cooked vegetables for me in one of these last year.
They let them go just a hair too long and they were burned and dried out.

For the money and space to store it.. this is one I'll pass on.

cant find out anything about my secondhand Le Creuset pan.

If you took photos and posted them it might help.
Also, email the photos to LC ... they may be able to help as well.

With photos.. LC also has a fan page on facebook... you may have a larger fan base of this one particular line to pose this question to as well if you can't find your answer.

Retailers most likely won't have any info on it.. you are looking for collector sites who would be more familiar with more historical pieces.

But again.. posting photos would probably be most helpful

Pizza wheels

I have one like this.. probably not the same brand.. but the build is similar.. I love it.
