Where to buy spices

Looking for the name of a store (in the Hawthorne district? near a TJ's?) where they stock a wide variety of spices. Specifically I'm looking for Aleppo pepper, if you happen to know whether they have it.

Thanks in advance.

why is my indian food bland?

Besides following the excellent suggestions given here for getting the best out of your spices, try the recipes in Camellia Panjabi's cook books, especially "50 Great Curries of India." Every recipe in there is wonderful, but the lamb vindaloo and butter chicken recipes are to die for.

No knock on CI. I use them for nearly everything else, and right now have a pork loin roasting per their instructions. It, too, will be to die for. One of life's great pleasures is food. Presumably this is a family site, so no mention of the other.

Decent Mexican near downtwon Sheraton?

Second choice is a good steak. Help a hungry chow hound!

Smoked seafood shop near Oregon coast?

Found it--Karla's Smokehouse in Rockaway Beach. It's still open.

Smoked seafood shop near Oregon coast?

Somewhere near the north central part of the Oregon coast--Newport-ish?--there used to be a small business smoking and selling fresh seafood. We never made it there, and heard that the proprietor was thinking of closing shop. Is the shop still there? If so, where exactly is it and what's the name of the place?

Thanks in advance.

Duck livers?

Where can I buy duck livers in Portland? My appetite for duck liver pate is such that buying one duck, one liver, just isn't cutting it.

Thanks in advance.

Art Institute/Wacker Drive

We're staying at the Blackstone Thursday and will walk to and from the Art Institute Thursday and Friday. We'll want dinner on Thursday, and breakfast/lunch on Friday before driving to a weekend wedding in Lake Geneva. I want to spend a minimum of time and money at the assigned hotel. I'm checking the WI boards for Saturday/Sunday midday, unless someone from this forum has a great suggestion?

Back to Chicago on Sunday evening--not sure where we'll stay--and would like a Polish meal before heading home late Monday, but Bayless says there are no good Polish restaurants in Chicago. Hard to imagine, but there you have it. Greek food instead, maybe.

Anyway, sorry for the miscellaneous requests and the confusion! Nsxtasy, I'm a native Chicagoan but haven't been back in awhile. I've been post stalking you and greatly enjoy your posts and recommendations. Thank you!

Art Institute/Wacker Drive

Two of us will be in this area Thursday/Friday. At Frontera, what are the best times Thursday PM/Friday AM to walk in for a table?

We'll be looking for quick eats in the area as well--hot dogs, Italian beef sandwiches, maybe pizza. Ideas?

Manzanita redux

Anyone tried Left Coast Siesta?
