Tei Tei -- Why are they in such a bad mood? (Dallas)

haha, i love this post bc i think i might know what the problem is. i personally love tei-tei and have never had bad service there so here's a thought. your bad service might've just been the asian bug (bad service), everyone suffers if you are on outsider. this usually isn't the case at japanese restaurants but is quite normal in chinese/korean/viet, etc. places. and my other theory is that when you have to deal with an insufferable amount of douchbags on a daily basis, you too might fall into a bad mood. just take it with a grain of salt, it could've just been an off night, everyone has one.

Tony Bourdain's thoughts on BBQ-Gate and Leslie Brenner

I'll have to admit, Leslie Brenner's reviews are as inconsistent as D magazine's writers are consistently racially insensitive and pretentious. Her reviews never match up to the star ratings she dishes out for the restaurant. Whenever I do find myself reading a review from the paper, I ignore the stars and just read the review and usually I come out completely perplexed about what I've just read.

-good looking out on the video!

Eating the World Cup in DFW

I've kind of been doing this too but I don't plan on eating all the cuisines, just watching the matches with the natives which is the real treat.

Usa - go to trinity hall pub @ mockingbird station...great atmosphere. it's an fc dallas/usa supporters pub.

Porto - check out casa portugal in carrollton...dunno if they have teles, but i heard the food is authentic. been meaning to try it.

Spain - do you know a place where the spanish supporters will be?

Netherlands - i heard the place to check out is henk's european deli and black forest bakery.

Germany - bavarian grill is fantastic, great food/beer and german contingent

England - i am en england supporter so i am partial to the londoner. the menus are different at the 3 different locations.

Cheers!

Fuzzy's

I found the food here very ordinary. Had fish tacos and huevos rancheros. My homemade fish tacos are far superior :) and my huevos were over cooked (no bleeding yolk action) :(....the best thing I can recall were my beans. This place would've be kick-cuss back in my college days when taco bell was half my nutritional daily intake.

Trying to find a good Americanized Chinese Place

My suggestion would to be go to the authentic Chinese places around town and order your old time americanized favorites. You'll see they do a pretty damn good job.

Duck in Dallas

When we wanted fresh duck for a meal called tiet canh (duck blood soup), we'd have to go to someone who raised ducks. I never got the source of who raised them because I was designated to pluck the feathers. It was somebody in Dallas though. They will sell them fresh to you, but you will have to do the tedious work of breaking the duck down from its last gasp. I'll search for the source if you're interested.

Alo Dallas -- Closed for good?

A waiter at La Duni told us that they were still pondering whether or not they were going to open at a new location or not.

DFW to Houston on 45

I concur, the bbq is nothing to be desired. I did get some good jerky there, it's been awhile so I don't really remember which kind it was. Bubba's is good Q, not quite the lovely as the Austin area variety but solid nonetheless.

I've never had Mt. Zion, but if you drive through Huntsville during lunchtime, roll down your window...it smells amazing.

fort worth: the LOVE SHACK

The way places are folding in Victory Park, Tim Love is probably seriously reconsidering the idea. If he does move there, I hope those love burgers don't have a victory price hike.

Good Cajun

Bland, my brother's tilapia with stuffed crab and shrimp was also a little cold in the center. We both had to add alot of hot sauce to both fish plates to salvage the meal. Suprising to me too, because when I think of Cajun food, there's always plenty of seasoning to go around.

Good Cajun

Did Big Easy for father's day a few weeks back, we ordered the whole gamut of the menu and found most of the food to be underseasoned.

We had pan fried tilpia special - underseasoned
meatball sandwich - ok
boudin balls - not too shabby
gumbo - ok
tilapia w/ stuffed crab and shrimp - underseasoned
key lime pie - good stuff
blackened chicken salad - ok

I'm really thinking we really should've eaten more from the fryer.

1st time visitor to OC/LA area

Most of the time will be in LA near Paramount studios and actually Corona and a little bit of time inOC...yeah we'll have transportation so a little drive is nothing. I have a reliable friend overthere, just looking for more options though.

Smokey D's BBQ (Wylie)

Where is it exactly? Drove down that way yesterday for Big Daddy's Roadhouse which btw smokes a good rib and hot link. The brisket/sausage was ok when I had it, the sides there lack a little seasoning. Didn't happen to see the trailer as I passed through Wylie though.

Best Burger In Dallas/Fort Worth

Good list, but you gotta throw in a Burger Street bacon cheese. Burger Street's curly fries are also my choice for pound for pound best for a fast food joint as well.

Texas BBQ

Man, I love that sausage at Smitty's...that courser texture/grind and that beautiful snap when you bite into just does it for me.

Pho in Dallas?

Pho Bang in Garland used to be the pound for pound best but they haven't a little bit in the past couple years.

Pho Bac in Richardson is my choice now, broth is just right and the meats are all fresh and tender which reminds me of the quality pho you can get in Houston.
