Lavo dinner suggestions...
Yes, the lithe blonde at the table next to you.
And the meatball. Its a damn good meatball.
The Red Rooster - anybody been?
I dined there last week. We loved it. Its as much of a salon as it is a restaurant, and its a ray of light that cuts through the commercialization that NYC has endured over the last decade or so.
Sifton's comparison to Odeon in the 80's is fair, which is quite the compliment IMO.
Yard Bird, Steak, Oysters, Catfish, Yams, and Meatballs were all excellent.
Beef patties and Mac were average.
The drink menu is nice. One disappointment was when I asked the bartender for a bourbon, and asked him to choose something interesting for me, he gave me Knob Creek. That's pretty lame, and what makes it worse is apparently they have a 3-5 jars of infused bourbon there. That was a fail.
Crowd is really fun and the energy is great. Decor is perfect except for the perforated school house drop ceiling, but I am being petty.
Overall grade for the total food, experience, service, value, and vibe: A!
We really, really liked it.

Best Chocolate Chip Cookies
Wow, you stole my thunder. I am sure (well actually I know) that there are some fresh baked cookies available that are probably better, but we really love the Tate's. Available at our 24 hr Korean deli!
We've called them "The $5 cookies" for years, ala the $5 Milkshake from Pulp Fiction. My fiance and I are on sound financial footing but we sometimes, humbly- well, maybe falsely, fret over whether we should buy "The $5 cookies." I suppose we think we're cute:-)
BTW they are now $6 at my deli!
So good. Big fan.
New Restaurants in the East Village
Hey buddy, I live here on TSQP. I went to Peels and it was fine, but I wasn't blown away. Thought it was ok to good.
Always excited to hear about new eats in the 'hood. We are big Redhead, Perbacco, Back Forty, Hearth (chef's counter), Artichoke, and Gnocco fans.

Where to get a good matzo ball soup?
Sorry to disagree with a few peeps here, but I've been going to 2nd Ave for 15 years and it saddens me to say its over. Its gone way downhill. Want a GREAT MBS? Don't freak out, but:

Where are you coming from? I love eating Breakfast at Balthazar in Soho.
BLT Prime or Peter Luger
Eh, I'm a Lugar guy but reading your posts I think Mom might want something a little more elegant. I'd go with BLT Prime or Strip House.

Loved RGR's LES food tour - now what?
"Keste and Motorino are far superior to the others."
I absolutely agree 100% and I am a pizza nut. Great advice.
More advice: Avoid Lombardi's. It has slipped since they expanded.
Off the trail a little is Luzzo's on 1st Ave. Fantastic pizza!!

Burgers at the Brindle Room?
Update: 3 days later and still on my mind, and still craving a return trip. I live a block away. Dangerous.
Best Burgers in NYC.................
We just had an EPICALLY good burger at The Brindle Room. Very reminiscent of the Black Label Burger at Minetta, of which I am a big fan.

I kindly ask for all knowledgable opinions: DEL POSTO vs. JEAN GEORGES for my fiance's birthday lunch...
Thanks for the clarification, I wasn't sure. Still undecided though!
I kindly ask for all knowledgable opinions: DEL POSTO vs. JEAN GEORGES for my fiance's birthday lunch...
Thanking all in advance, I have reservations at both for a few weeks from now, but would like to cancel one as to not impede someone else getting the one that we will decline to use.
It is my girl's 35th birthday, and while we are going to get friends together for a night of mischief, I want to surprise her with a nice lunch on the actual day.
I have never been to Del Posto, but of course have read the hype and know who the chef and restauranteur are.
I have been to JG but it's been ages and I can't say I remember much. I am more of a downtown guy.
Frankly, most of what I know about these places is what we all read.
Furthermore I want to take advantage of the price fixe that both places do. Does JG do it in the main room as well as Nougatine? I THINK my res is in the main restaurant based on the Open Table email I received:
Dear XXXXX,

east village steak recommendations?
Man not too many great steaks in the hood, so we usually head elsewhere for high end meat. That said, we like to go to Leon on 12th St for steak and red wine sometimes. Nothing special, but its a nice meal and a good time.

Robert's Steakhouse at the Penthouse Club serves very good Prime meat, and comes in on your credit card as "Robert's Steakhouse," as does everything else in the venue. At least it did as of last Wednesday:-)
