Any GREEN falafel between South Beach and Boca Raton?

THey do have delivery, and its a decent location - probably 5 or 6 tables. Hopefully business is good for them so they dont close down like all the restaurants before them..

Where do the south beach locals eat/drink/hang out?

I definitely also recommend Clarke's.

These are just a few other recommendations fo places my girlfriend and I like to eat, but we're more so on a budget. No bartenders, but some are healthy, most are fresh, and lots of people watching.

Take out at Joe's
Le Sandwicherie
Burger n Beer
Spris
Jimmy'z Kitchen
A La Folie

Since you're a vegetarian, i also recommend checking out Juice and Java - they cater to vegans as well.

Inexpensive Dinners Downtown Miami

Not sure if this is a faux pas, but here ( http://bit.ly/covP3K ) you can get 50% off coupons at CVI.CHE 105, as well as other restaurants. Not promoting their service or anything, but i have used them numerous times - makes your inexpensive dinners all that more inexpensive!

Miami Beach With No Money-Where to Eat?

Yeah it closed down over a month ago.

Shake Shack has opened.

Shake Shack in SOBE

I've been a few times and must agree overall. The single burger was not quite filling enough, but was very tasty as well as the fries. One tip for locals, not sure how long it will be in effect, but you can get a free small cup of frozen custard showing your ID. I've done it 3 times now, and asked an employee. As far as they knew, it was an 'indefinite' practice.

Any fun vegetarian-friendly restaurants and bakeries in Ft. Lauderdale?

I'm taking a friend out to Ft. Lauderdale tomorrow night. I'm not too familiar with Ft. Lauderdale, though. They're vegetarian and we're mostly looking for any place with a fun/casual ambience and decent affordable food (either restaurant, bakery, or even cafe would be fine). Thanks for your help!

artisan bread miami?

I was hoping for some hidden locations that I didn't know about :( I have found bread to be edible from Pauls, Epicure and Panera... Hopefully has a line on one of the restaurant's bread suppliers.

Birthday Dinner - Sra Martinez, Michy's, or MGFD

Well made it out to Sra Martinez tonight, and was pleasantly surprised with this location. Food was on average, very good, ambiance was decent, and service was very good as well.

Food
• Crispy Artichokes - Surprisingly good. The accompanying sauce had a nice lemon taste that complimented the artichokes. Seeming simple dish, but very tasty.
• Jamon Serrano - well can't really go wrong here.
• Patatas Bravas - Dissapointing to both of us. Essentially smaller potatoes (finger link size) hollowed out, filled with some sort of 'mousse'. Flavour profile was decent, but would not order again.
• Prawns a la Plancha - Cant really go wrong with prawns. Quite large, and cooked well, and a big plus is that they still had their heads. It was topped with a little chimichurri sauce. We preferred not to incorporate the sauce while eating.
• Scallop dish - Perfectly cooked, spinach complimented the scallops perfectly.
•Churros - Nicely fried, not oily, and very crisp. Chocolate sauce was tasty, and reminiscent of Spain.

Ambiance - I really enjoyed the physical location, and had what I consider one of the best seats. We were located in the corner (2 top table) with ample space from other tables (unlike other 2 tops). Biggest downer with the ambiance was the MUSIC! Why play a top 40 radio station...

Service - Fantastic. All dishes explained, beverages kept full, and never looking for a waiter.

I'll definitely make my way back there, and bring others as well.

Thanks to you all for your help!

Miami Market Recommendations - Fruit/Veggies, Meat, Seafood, Ethnic

The wealth of information on these boards never ceases to amaze me! Thank you for the great run down! I'm going to have to look into a Costco membership. I didnt expect the meat to excel way beyond the supermarkets, but great to hear!

Will definitely makea few visits to Casablanca. Quite shocking there are not more options for fish mongers!

Fruits/Veggies, guess i'll stick with Publix for now, and grow some herbs on my balcony...

I guess for Asian markets, i'll have people bring me stuff when they come visit :)

PS, when I was at Xixon, one of the ladies stated that they are moving to a much larger location down the street, and will include a much larger market :)

Thank you all once again!

Miami Market Recommendations - Fruit/Veggies, Meat, Seafood, Ethnic

and BAKERIES as well!!

Miami Market Recommendations - Fruit/Veggies, Meat, Seafood, Ethnic

Responses in another thread have led me to posting this one. I am a new resident to Miami Beach, and am looking for places to find fresh seafood, good butchers, good fruit and veggie markets, and great ethnic markets. The closer to the beach the better :) I found Epicure to be a fairly good location, but prices seem quite inflated... There have to be many local suppliers due to the amount of restaurants in the area.

• Fresh Seafood - Mainly fresh fishes and head-on shrimps!
• Butcher - would like to develop a relationship with a good butcher that puts out good volume.
• Fruit/Veggie - pretty much any will do. Market on Lincoln seems like left over produce from walmart...
• Ethnic Markets - primarily an Asian one - many have fresh seafood veggies etc... (where i'm from at least), and Spanish one (have been informed of Xixon and Delicias De Espana - which is 'better').

Thank you to you all for your continued input and patience!

Birthday Dinner - Sra Martinez, Michy's, or MGFD

I think I should start another post regarding markets then!

Birthday Dinner - Sra Martinez, Michy's, or MGFD

excited to sample tomorrow's offerings!

Pizza Crawl - First Cheese, part 3

If Spris was that much better than Sosta, I DEFINITELY have to try it out next time!!! I've always avoided it for some reason. Thanks for the detailed review!

Birthday Dinner - Sra Martinez, Michy's, or MGFD

Thanks for your input!

Needed to thank you guys above for the Xixon recommendation!! Will definitely be returning there regularly! The tapas were verrrry tasty with great seasonings! Even better was the actual market! Quality produce/oils etc.. for cheaper than quite a few online sites!! So I stocked up on some paella rice, pimenton, galician bread, and olive oil :)

Thanks again! Off to Sra Martinez tomorrow!

Birthday Dinner - Sra Martinez, Michy's, or MGFD

I think I have settled on Sra Martinez. Nicer ambiance more befitting of a birthday dinner :) Xixon would fit our personalities well for a birthday celebration BUT I'll probably pass by Xixon tomorrow, grab a couple tapas and visit the market. I read somewhere they had Galician bread (frozen) for a $1!!

Ahh Barcelona how I miss you, where else can you get two entrepans for 4€ each, and then get a FREE bottle of Cava!!

Thank you all for your guidance once again!

Birthday Dinner - Sra Martinez, Michy's, or MGFD

Thank you all for your replies, very informative, as are all other posts written by you all. I think for this dinner we'll end up at Sra Martinez or Xixon.

lax2mia, very creative suggestion! And I didn't realize how close MGFD and SM were to each other! I'm going to be here a while, so I figure i'll give each restaurant its own night to impress me :) But why did you have to bring up Xixon!!!!! Site does not have a great deal of info, but seems authentic in its offerings. I know they are different approaches to tapas, but how would you compare the two for a nice evening out?

Frodnesor, thanks for your insight as well. I have a feeling i'd enjoy the cavernous feel too, normally feels cozy to me. Read through your reviews of these restaurants on your blog, VERY helpful.

Blind Mind, I will definitely have to give MGFD its night, and after that i'll begin tapas dining around the design district :)

Not the best situation when my girlfriend and I are foodies, yet have fast food budgets for the time being :(

So now I guess its Xixon vs SM. I will definitely visit MGFD and Michy's at another time.

ps. wish you success on your pub crawl! Sosta has my vote thus far :)

South Beach Restaurants: the good / the bad

I actually found Miss Yip to be not worth returning to. Food IS edible, has some taste, probably is one of the better ones in South Beach, but definitely not worth a repeat visit, to me of course. Vegetables are not very crisp/fresh, and unfortunately the use of bok choy is unheard of...

Birthday Dinner - Sra Martinez, Michy's, or MGFD

Good day all, after months of lurking in these forums, thought it was time to participate. Recently relocated to South Beach, and was quite disappointed in the quality of food and service, so it is nice to have had many foodies do a lot of the filtering for me already!

Ok to the question. It is my girlfriend's birthday on the 4th of July, and am deciding on which restaurant to go to. Requirements are simply great food, and second, decent value, (ie. Hakkasan is not in the equation, great food, horrible value for me). Let's say the budget is around $140, not including wine or drinks etc.

Sra. Martinez - We've lived in Barcelona and traveled Spain quite a bit, so we do know tapas/pinxos fairly well. Will the authenticity disappoint, as they have moved on to more of a latin approach. The other question was value. We are not heavy eaters, but CAN eat. Due to some posts stating small portions have been rectified/addressed, how would you say this place would satisfy our appetites? Are there any 'better' Spanish tapas locations?

Michy's/MGFD - These are our other options thus far. I am sure the food would be good, but since it doesn't share the ambiance/dynamic of tapas dining, remains as a backup unless you guys feel we would be more satisfied here?

Thanks for your time, and looking forward to providing the little input I can on these boards!

Ps. Any other locales you would recommend over these locations? Romantic is not a necessity, just great food! :)

Sosta (Miami), best pizza in the history of....

I visited Sosta last night, and must state that it was well worth the trip.

Atmosphere - Had a nice feeling, decoration etc.. but a little on the loud side as it is a small dining room.

Staff - Well trained, and very attentive. I enjoyed the fact that they did not have the typical assigned table per waiter approach.

Food - Started with the Tomino Avvolto appetizer, and was not disappointed at all. Great taste, and surprisingly a light and clean feeling. Arugula was a little bitter than I was used to though.

For my main I had the Rustica Pizza. Great flavours all combined on one pizza. Red peppers were very sweet, goat cheese not too tart, and the sausage, ohh the sausage was addictive! Definitely would recommend this pizza.

Dessert - I had the Tiramisu. I will not say it is the most authentic one that i've had, but definitely one of the tastiest I have enjoyed in North America. The graham pieces sprinkled on top added a nice crunchy texture to each bite.

All in all I preferred it to Piola, and will definitely be returning again. total bill rounded out around $35 or so...

ps. Bread at the beginning of the meal would have been appreciated.
