Restaurants to try in 2010

St-Urbain
Délices de l'Île Maurice
Chien Fumant
The sparrow
XO
Ibiscus

I'll pretend I havent been to Cabane à sucre Pied de Cochon just to try it again...;)

looking for a resto in the old port...bday dinner

Resident would definitely fit the bill. Great (awesome) comfort food, super nice staff, lovely decor. I strongly recommend it.

Le Resident - a breath of fresh air in Old Montreal

Also, try the new summer menu! The grilled cheese with lobster is great! :)

Grocery/supermarket/food store recommendations near Old Montreal

I agree - I live in the Old Montreal, very very close to where OP is planning on buying and I go to IGA for the groceries. I walk there and back (about 10 minutes) and have it delivered.

best non-touristy "touristy" in old montreal

Holder, however, is very very noisy - just be careful about that. On top of that, service is not always that great.

You might as well want to consider Chez L'Épicier, which is more local than french, but classic and good.

Yes - menu at CC&P might be a bit progressive, but it really is worth it.

best non-touristy "touristy" in old montreal

Club Chasse et Pêche...all the way.

Best restaurant in Buenos Aires- La Cabrera

I also concur. When I was in BA La Cabrera was - by far - my best dining experience.

What's the best place for breakfast in Montreal

Have to disagree. I love Beauty's. Not everyday, but once or twice a year. They make very good juice and I just love the food.

Lunch in old Montréal

I'm a big fan of Vallier, corner of McGill and Lemoyne. Lunch will cost about $20 / person. The food is good (try the burgers) and it's unpretentious.
Very close to your work is also SoupeSoup, on Wellington. Everyday they have four or five choices of soups and sandwiches...everything is delicious and the space is great.
Enjoy!

Restaurant Openings - 2008

I was there yesterday and, honnestly, had a wonderful meal. The place is new, so not very crowded, but the food is amazing. I had the "cèpes" and foie gras ravioli, followed by the best gnocchis I have ever had - ever. For dessert, my friend and I shared some baked apples with homemade crumbles and a divine salted caramel sauce.
I also met Angelo, the chef and owner, who is a charming and very generous person.

Business dinner & drinks: Old Montreal suggestions

For dinner:

Aszu : Wine bar, good food, good atmosphere
Version Laurent Godbout : More casual than sister restaurant Chez L'Épicier, but good food, trendy setting

Drinks:
La Garçonnière : ( near Place Jacques Cartier, on St-Paul) The newcomer.
Garde-Manger: Always lots of people, very trendy

Looking for late night restaurants in Old Montreal

Vallier, on McGill, has improved A LOT in the last year and they are opened until 11 from Monday to Saturday. Depending on where you are staying, you could also try Méchant Boeuf on St-Paul.

Top 10 restaurants/bars Montreal

CC&P / Château Ramezay is only opened for lunch, Monday through Friday. I'm also not sure that Kitchen Galerie does lunch. Both are, in my opinion, amazing, so I would switch lunch at Kitchen Galerie for lunch at Europea, and dinner at Chateau Ramezay for dinner at Tapeo (don't get me wrong - Tapeo has nothing to do with CC&P -which you must try. As a matter of fact, if you want tapas, I would chose Pinxto all the way).

As for bars, I would ban Globe, Med, Rosalie (tooo wannabe trendy) and Holder (too much of a restaurant) and would add the Suite 701 Terrace, Plan B and Baldwin. You also must know that you cannot just have a drink at Petit Conti - you must eat as well, because they don't have the "bar only" licence.

Enjoy!

Restaurant opened tonight?

Hi!

I'm going for dinner with my dad tonight and we are desperately looking for something good - and opened. We wanted Local or Graziella, both are closed, and I think many many restaurants in the city are also closed for the night. We are both amateurs of good food and wine, but would like to stay in the Old Montreal / Downtown / Petite Bourgogne area.
Budget is not really an issue, but both my dad and myself very much dislike overpaying, especially on a Tuesday night!

So...that's that! If anyone could help me....I would really appreciate it!

Thank you!

Best fine dining: Quebec City or Montreal?

For Ponocat: It is actually Le Pied de Cochon - not La Queue de cochon.

Top Notch Italian in Montreal?

I second DaEmma, especially for this type of event. Trendy, beautiful crowd, and good bars close for an after party!

Suggestions for a real French experience?

Isnt Le Bistro Gourmet now Le Petit Conti?

Who's Montreal's best female chef?

Racha Bassoul, from Bazaar (ex- Anise) is, in my opinion, the best female chef. I also second Bomobob...the Thai woman who cooks at Bangkok is amazing!

Good chinese delivery?

Good evening!

I live in the Old Montreal and was wondering if any good restaurants in Chinatown offered delivery? Or do you have other suggestions?

Thank you!

after dinner drinks in the old Mtl

I also suggest Le Confessionnal, right next to Vallier. It's a great little place. Thursdays are crazy, though, for the 5 à 7, but it gets better around 8-ish.

Martin sur la route : Picard takes you for the ride !

I love it as well! It is a great show. I think it is important to show things as they are, as raw as it gets. Of course, it might shock some people (see the Au pied du Cochon post on the Mtl board), but this is what Pied de Cochon and Martin are all about. I was at PdC on Friday, right after the airing of the Foie Gras episode actually, and I got to talk to Gaelle (the Maitre d') about it. I did ask her when it would be available on DVD or on the web. She didnt know, but was telling me the recipes have been written and standardized, probably for the web. She was also telling me to look out for the last episode, which will be on "trappage". I hear it's a piece of anthology.

Need a recipe - Christmas appetizer for 12

Good day!

Every year, either my sister, my brother or I are hosting the Christmas dinner. This year, my sister is, but I have to do the appetizers. Should the event take place in Montreal, I would have no issue, but it's in Ile d'Orleans, where food supplies are not exactly easy to find in the winter. So I'll have to go to a generic supermarket.

Anyway. I need to find something easy to make, with ingredients easy to find, since I'll be at my sister's place 2 days prior to Christmas.

A few restrictions:
- Kind of healthy, but still Christmas-y
- My sister in law just had a baby and is breastfeeding, so no peas and no cabbage; the baby does not digest it.

That's it! Thank you so much and Merry Christmas!

Vallier?

Just so you know, Vallier changed his menu (and chef) this week. I havent been yet but am going tonight, so will report. Apparently the cheesecake is to die for.

French Bistro recommendation Quebec City?

You should head down again and try le Café du Monde. Un-fussy, great view on the river, decent food and decent price.

Continental burnt down

This is indeed very sad news. I just passed by the Continental... the only things left are the stainless steel pillars.

Quebec City Lounge Bar?

The name is Cochon Dingue. ;-)
They have good breakfasts...but it's very generic food to me. The restaurant at the Château Frontenac is worth trying, since its chef, Jean Soulard, is one of the greatest chefs in the province. However, I must say that the Château itself is such a tourist trap...very little comfort for too much money!

Quebec City Lounge Bar?

Try Boudoir, in St-Roch, or La Société Cigare on Grande Allée. Enjoy!

Help Me Shorten My Lists: 3 Dinners, 2 Lunches

I second Club Chasse et Pêche for the splurge dinner. Great, great food.

Opinion on some Buenos Aires restaurants

I'm so glad you enjoyed La Cabrera!!! It's one of my favourite restaurants IN THE WORLD!!!!

Nice, reasonable restaurants in old montreal?

loll. Knowing Vallier, that description doesnt surprise me.
The food really IS comfortable. You can see that the people there really do pay attention to every detail. It is unpretentious, fresh and good. The BBQ duck wings are amazing, so is the vegetable salad. And I have to say that the brownies are close to be better than Olive and Gourmando's...
The service is well-intentioned, but not perfect yet, too fast for my taste, but I have been a few times now and it keeps getting better.
