deanie's service...unbelievable?...

Yes, unfortunately that is the kind of service you get at a place like Deanies. When I worked in the Quarter, that is the restaurant I sent people to if they were looking for good fried seafood. It's difficult to go wrong with fried foods. But I have to agree w/the others, how could you mistake gumbo for the duo Crab dish?! Another issue I can't understand is if your friend ordered 2 items and it being soup-like (most true New Orleanians would disagree w/this description), with you only ordering 1 item, how could you not realize the first item served would be your friend's...kind of like an appetizer served first?

Unfortunately, there are 2 honest mistakes here...1. on the server for not placing it in front of the correct person and 2. for you eating it with out asking your server. I certainly would not have thought it should be taken off the bill, but I certainly would slightly dock the server some of her tip....it was service not worthy of a 20% tip. Again, service at Deanie's is not quality, but I would not have fully stiffed her. I would have also asked to speak to the mgr. to inform them of the mistake. I would have also asked to order another gumbo for my friend. And why did the other person NOT stop you?

Wedding lunch/dinner at a restaurant?

Bacco, a Ralph Brennan Restaurant, is an excellent place to have a wedding party. Both the ambience and food are excellent. It's located in the heart of the French Quarter and is attached to the W hotel, their boutique location. The hotel has a charming courtyard and have seen a few weddings conducted there. My favorite room in the restaurant is the Skylight room with its Tuscan yellow painted walls, the evening light shining through the skylight windows, and charming arches. Their best dishes, BBQ Shrimp (one of the best in town, up there w/Mr. B's) and Lobster Ravioli (depending on the season they also have Crawfish Ravioli). I know I've seen some criticism on this board about their service staff, but I do know their party staff is specifically picked to be a very good team. I'll see if I can attach a link to their FaceBook page. Another of the RBRG is Ralph's on the Park, very Romantic too, with a lovely balcony overlooking City Park. I like Bacco because of its FQTR location.

Restaurant advice for a local

As much as I like Redfish, I wouldn't suggest them because it is a tourist spot. If you're interested in the Italian route, I'd suggest Mona Lisa's on Royal street. I attended a rehearsal dinner once and it was quite lovely. Just talk to the owners, they'll set something up for you. And depending on what time you go, Stanley's might be a good spot but they close at 7 and have a limited bar for 'bday festivities'

Possible to find boiled Crawfish at end of August?

Deanie's Seafood in the qtr might still have them and you might want to try the Galley in Old Metairie. The issue is that since crawfish are out of season, what you find is that the shell is very hard and they are difficult to eat. Plus, the meat is not as tender. Just a few weeks ago, Harbor seafood had them too which is out by the airport in Kenner.
