Thanksgiving dinner in DFW area (not fine dining)

We have eaten at Smoke at The Belmont twice for Thanksgiving. Excellent food. Reasonable price. Casual.

Birthday Dinner Suggestions

My college aged son LOVES going to FT33; it's a flavor adventure and very memorable. Even though the menu is small, you will find something for everyone....including the g/f girlfriend.

Ft. Worth lunch, Dallas 36 hours 4 kids (7-14) from NYC. Where to eat?

Chicken Scratch would be fun for the kids....on a nice day. Good options for a foodie mom too....I usually get the quinoa salad. Nice sides to choose from too.

Bolsa Mercado is good for an afternoon treat. They do fresh veg juice too. My kid gets a choc milk while I get the green/jalepeno juice. Look at the right end of the counter for bargain day old treats.

Lunch near Convention Center

Try Wild Salsa. On Main at St Paul. It would be best to walk up Lamar or Griffin to Main and then head east.

Breakfast Tacos/burritos for Office Crowd

Try La Popular on Columbia at Munger. You could probably order ahead of time and pick up from their drive through window.

Klyde Warren Park - quiet casual grown-up cocktails-coffee-dessert

This might seem chi chi snobby, but really...it is not. We like sitting on the leather sofas at Rattlesnake inside Ritz Carlton. We often order coffee, dessert and then cocktails. But...we only do this if we can snag a leather sofa; experience is not the same in the main bar area or in the restaurant.

Conference at the Anatole

I think you would be disappointed driving all the way to White Rock Coffee. I have never liked their coffee and I live near them. I was happy when Stir; now Cultivar, opened down the street. Cultivar is inside Good 2 Go taco (Peavy Rd at Garland Rd) - not near the Anatole, but an excursion if you want to see the east side of Dallas. Yes, we have trees and a lake!!

Ascension is getting a lot of buzz. I haven't been yet.

Since you'll be close to Oak Cliff, Smoke does a good breakfast (I like that I can get house smoked salmon with my egg dishes). Oddfellows is really good too...in a different way; I prefer the coffee at Oddfellows, though, where I can get a cortado.

Dick & Jenny's vs. Jacques-Imo's

Dick and Jenny;s..
Jacques-Imo's is overpriced and the quality is not equal to the price paid. Plus...there is the wait...

What are the best bakeries in Dallas?

Empire does the best job.
I've gotten some "off" items from Village Bakery, but bought at a local market in the spring; not their store. Hopefully they have improved.

From Empire - baguette is perfection. Walnut Scallion bread. Pane Paisano. Cinnamon roll. Croissants. Trail mix cookie. Those are my favorites.

Where can my boss dine tomorrow night?

If it must be a steakhouse....Nick and Sam's.
If he wants an adventure...FT33
But...he could could easily eat at the bar at Stephan Pyles - their bone in cowboy ribeye is as good as anything (maybe better) than most steakhouse steaks...

BEST CUPCAKES DFW

I picked up some Trailercakes last week while I was getting takeout from Pei Wei. They were very good. Btw - they are doing a Scoutmob deal right now.

Cajun/Creole restaurants with vegetarian dishes, not overly expensive

Finding veg food is a challenge. Try EAT or Vacherie in the FQ.

There's a place between Casamentos and Miss Mae's on Magazine called Hey! cafe - I glanced at their menu and saw many veg options, but can't remember what they were.

Slim Goodies also on Magazine has some veg options.

And if worst comes to worst, the new Rouse's grocery in the Warehouse District on Baronne has a salad bar and other veg options...so says my sister.

in Dallas for one night

Try Wild Salsa on Main near Main Street Garden. Iron Cactus is not nearly as good.

walking distance from Omni Hotel

I ran into to Toby from Cedars Social on Lamar and he told me they can make something veg...maybe give them some notice. I haven't been, though. There really isn't much around the Omni. Wild Salsa has some good options, but you'll want to take a cab, I'm sure.

Boston Hound looking for vegetarian (friendly) must-eats while in town

You can find "something" to eat just about anywhere. Today, I had a good veggie burger at Hopdaddy in Preston Center.
Wild Salsa, downtown, has good veg options including a large tamale and some tacos.
Taco Diner has two veg tacos (just looked at their menu and they aren't listed), I love their green salsa! But their rice is cooked with chicken broth.
Taco Joint has the best beans, and they are veg! Their chalupas are really good. At breakfast, their migas taco is the best one.
Pho is For Lovers on Greenville just north of Lover's Lane has good veg pho.
If you can find Nammi food truck, they have the best tofu banh mi...it's KILLER!!!

Rainy Day Lunch with Toddler Uptown

There are some casual places along Maple near the riverbend. Take a look at Babylon. It's a cute neighborhood to walk around if the rain lets up.

Christmas Day dinner

Thanks guys!!
I think we are going to go with Domenica since there is something for everyone...kids, vegetarians and even the foodies in our group.

Christmas Day dinner

Thank you for that description, Gizmo. My mother in law will enjoy seeing The Roosevelt...maybe she and the kids can enjoy the decorations while us adult children go have a drink...I have a feeling we'll need it!! Lol!!
Anyway, Domenica sounds perfect!! Thanks again!!

Christmas Day dinner

We will be staying in the Warehouse District at Christmas time. Although my husband's family is from New Orleans, only his mother remains and we would like to take her out for dinner on Christmas Day.

I was hoping my number one place would be open - Bayona, but they only do Thanksgiving. Is there another restaurant similar to Bayona - in that they literally have something for everyone - including vegetarians and kids - and the price point cost/value is good.

So far, open on Christmas Day:
*Cafe Adelaide - seems like our best bet
*Domenica - seems like everyone can find something here
*Luke - our third choice
*Borgne - maybe
*Grille Room - not into the price tag. Not a good cost/value. Nothing vegetarian and kids are $45/each (that'd be for PBJ and chicken strip!!)!

Closed on Christmas Day...i.e. places we'd rather eat at. :-)
Bayona, Commanders, La Petit Grocery, August, Liliette

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On another note - we plan on driving to Lutcher/Gramercy to check out the bonfires on Christmas Eve. We haven't done this in YEARS!! Last time we were there, the fire dept along the levee was serving up rice and beans, etc. Has anyone been to the bonfires in recent years? Do you know if food is still being served along the levee?
Maybe there is a small restaurant we could make our way to before the bonfires start up.
Thanks a bunch!!

Thanksgiving at a restaurant

We ate at Smoke last Thanksgiving. The price/value was decent compared to the overpriced nicer hotels. It was a good meal.

East Hampton - Upscale Sandwiches

When I'm in that side of town, I pop into into Empire for a grab and go sandwich and stock up on bread...I still have a half loaf of Pane Paisano in my freezer from my last trip.

Back to the OP - the lobster roll at East Hampton does look killer. Has anyone tried it? Wonder how it compares to Rex's.

Rehearsal Dinner in New Orleans - May 10th 2013 - Need Suggestions

Have you tried Napoleon House? Although it was 10 yrs ago, I had my rehearsal dinner there with mostly out of town guests and a few locals - everyone loved it...we're a casual bunch, though. Prices were the best I could find with a variety of food for everyone plus open bar...in a private upstairs room.

Brunch/Lunch Suggestions: Looking to take customers out Pre-Dallas Cowboys game on Sunday

Smoke is the best option as mentioned above. The menu has something for everyone...cruise through it.
It can be a challenge taking out a group of people who may not know very well. You'll want to make sure the menu isn't limiting like Babe's. And I'm guessing you want something nicer than a counter service place (Fuzzy's, Twisted Root).

Best Tamales??

It sounds like you are looking for a sit down restaurant; not a pick up tamale place. If so, try Mi Cocina - they have a tamale dinner...only pork, though.
