Good beer & kid-friendly restaurants?

Lost Dog in the Westover neighborhood has been closed recently for renovations. I'm not sure if they have opened back up yet in that location. However, there should be no problem going to the location on the corner of Columbia Pike and Fillmore/Walter Reed, across from the Arlington Cinema and Draft House.

Since you mentioned that you enjoy Greek and Middle Eastern cuisine, you might also check out Zaytinya. It's a few blocks down F street from your hotel, and they are open pretty late (by DC standards) on most nights. They serve Greek/Middle Eastern inspired small plates.

Chicken and Waffles?

Restaurant 3 in Clarendon has chicken and waffles on the menu...

There was some debate on Don Rockwell's site about them recently, though...

Czech or Polish butcher in or near Alexandria

You might want to try the Kielbasa Factory in Rockville. It's the only Polich meat place in the area that I know of. I haven't been there, though; so I can't attest to the quality. At the very least it would be a little closer than Baltimore (basically just follow the beltway up into Maryland).
