Meatball's Profile
New Yorker Coming to San Fran for a Few Days
They are open; just went to their benefit for the accident victims and confirmed with the owner.
Korean groceries in the SF area?
Their house made specials are usually really good. They are located by the register. They also have a very tasty blood sausage (mixed with rice) if you are into that kind of treat.
Lambs' kidneys
You can get halal fresh lamb kidneys at the market on Geary, at Jones (north west side). They also have lamb hearts and tongue in addition to more common cuts.
Visiting San Francisco and want to experience SF Chinese food
You probably meant Eliza's. I went to their California St location about a month ago and food was quite mediocre and lacking any sort of complexity. Service was pretty bad.
High Praise - Ristorante Milano
I also had a very good dinner at Milano about 2 months ago. They have a delish boozy zabaglione. Service was excellent.
Winterland Happy Hour Chowdown Report
I am going to have this tripe tonight, can't wait (I am getting 2 orders and not sharing).
Quick Chow tonight near Powell, Civ Center or Mission BART?
Tu lan has some street creed. The bit about Julia Child seems to be in every SF guide book. I think the place is beyond gross and the food is mediocre at best. There are much better Vietnamese places in tenderloin, such as bodega bistro, hung ky, pho kien giang, turtle tower.
Delicious grass-fed lamb at Queen of Sheba market.
After eating tasty pho at Pho Kien Giang I stopped by Queen of Sheba market to check out their grass-fed halal lamb (I remembered Melanie's post about it). I purchased rack of lamb at unheard of price of $4.99/lb. Took it home, rubbed some spices, pepper and salt on it, let it sit for an hour, seared it,then finished it in the oven. It was delish, very full of flavor(some might call it gamy). It will be #1 spot for all my lamb needs from now on. The market is located on the corner of Sutter and Larkin in Tenderloin.
Pastrami Chowdown - Part Two - M & L Market
Pastrami was good, but the bread and condiments were very avarage. Thanks Derek for your hospitality (and much better bread)!
best sushi in SF
I went recently to Zushi Puzzle. Fish was very fresh, great variety, but rice was not good. It was very mushy. I would stick to sashimi.
La Boulange on Union Street in SF
I have tried their French onion soup (Union Street location) and it was the worst version ever. It was practically flavorless.
High End - Classy Chinese Restaurant in San Francisco...where to find?
Great Eastern is consistently good. I have taken all kinds of people there and every single one of them loved it.
Fried Chicken in San Francisco
I finally tried fried chicken at BlueJay Cafe. It was very good. Crispy skin, juicy inside. I didn't like the mac and cheese it came with though. Big portion for $10.
Pastrami Chowdown...Part One!...Memphis Minnie's
So far my favorite pastrami in the city is from Golden Gate Meats at the Ferry Building - very moist and full of flavor.
Hit list for best restaurants in the Mission District
I second the taco stand at Taqueria Vallarta. I have tried their lengua and beef cheek tacos and both were delish.
