The Chickery - Spadina South of Richmond (David Adjey's new casual spot)

The chicken experts in Toronto are Portuguese: Sardinha and Bairrada are my favourites. The Chickery does not really inspire me....

Fuzz Box: East Coast donair in Toronto

Tried it today. Had a regular donair pita. I never went to Halifax , so I cannot compare, however, it is a completely different animal than gyros or shawarma. The only Greek or middle-eastern thing about it is the bread. I really liked it, I enjoyed the contrast between the sweetness of the sauce and the spiciness of the meat. This being said it is really messy. I think next time I will try the sub. I will go again for sure, as it is delicious but I honestly prefer greek gyro as to me, yogurt rules. But that is me...

Filo Grill & Rotisserie

Yes it is Estiatorio. Does not look formal to me!

Filo Grill & Rotisserie

I found it by doing a google search...

Filo Grill & Rotisserie

Nooo. F.I.L.O!!!!! LOL

Filo Grill & Rotisserie

Every time I go to work in the Eglinton/DVP area, I take the 100 Flemingdon bus. I always pass by a restaurant called Filo Grill & Rotisserie at 128 O'Connor Drive just at the corner of Pape. I am intrigued but have not tried it yet. I went on line to see the menu and though it has a really big menu, they have some really interesting greek dishes that you do not ind in other T.O restaurants, except maybe Zorba's hot table on the Danforth.

Has any of you fellow chowhounders frequented this restaurant, and if yes, what are your impressions?

Looking for an authentic Spanish restaurant with authentic Spanish dishes

hey Guys! Better late than never. I have not been back on this thread since my original post but thanks for the feedback. i have been to Torito and found it good food but nothing really out of this world. I did have great spanish food in..... Chicago back in May though! LOl. Much better than anything i had here. I want to try Embrujo Flamenco, Cava too but cava is not owned by Spaniards so I hesitate.

Talking about Spanish Immigration to Toronto, there are some but just a few thousand people. There are more in Montreal. So i may explore there now.

Hard-boiled eggs in lasagna? [Split from Not About Food]

it is a question of personal taste. I personally adore hard boiled eggs and eggs in general. if you know your guests like them and you like them too, go ahead!

By the way Jay F, I am sure there is a food item you adore that someone hates as much as you hate hard boiled eggs. You would be insulted if the language they used was that strong, right? So ,leave farts outside of the conversation! LOL.

What's open on Christmas?

I have an old friend who lives in the US visiting me at Christmas. It will be just him and me and we are looking for a good restaurant for dinner on December 25. However a lot of places are closing. I have my usual jewish and indian fallback places that will be open such as Me-Va-Me and Siidharta but I am looking for something european such as French, italian, Spanish, Portuguese or Greek that would take my reservation for dinner. i live in North York ( Lawrence/Dufferin) but open to any area.

Any suggestions?

Looking for an authentic Spanish restaurant with authentic Spanish dishes

Ok. I was in Madrid 2 years ago and came back in love with Spanish food. And by Spanish, I mean from Spain, not Mexico, Colombia or Argentina. Food that Spaniards eat either at home or in typical tabernas and restaurants.

I had a not so bad experience at Segovia here in Toronto and I know that there are a few places that serve overpriced what they call tapas, but what I am looking for is typical dishes. Paella is fine but i am also looking for cocido, game and other typical dishes from the regions of Spain. is there such a place in The GTA?????

Canadians in NZ in September! Seeking recommendations for good restaurants!

Hi there,

Myself and a friend will be visiting NZ in September and are looking for good resto recommendations, especially in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

We appreciate fine as well as casual dining and are especially interested in the following:

Lamb

Oysters

Crayfish

Desserts

Coffee shops (as in espresso bars)

Fish( with or without chips!)

French or Italian or Spanish

Maori dishes

Go ahead, make my trip.....

Cafe 668 - Great Asian Vegetarian - Can't understand why it isn't busy!?

It is bland, bland and bland. Without being vegetarian, I love a lot of vegetarian food, but i found this place really boring. What about a bit of seasoning? And really, if one does not want to eat meat, why eat fake meat that tastes like cardboard?????

Buying great olive oil

Grande Cheese, 22 Orfus Road, off Dufferin in Toronto has a goo selection of olive oils from Sicily, California, Spain and sometimes Turkey or Greece.

Goin' on a picnic & need fried chicken

Chick-N-Joy at Queen and Woodfield. The best in town, despite all the Chowhound naysayers....

Dinner near AMC Theatre at Dundas Square

Osteria Ciceri e Tria is excellent. Lots of choice and quite a few vegetarian options.
