Vienna Trip Report

Many thanks to Sturmi for his recommendations. Vienna is a magnificent, grand city. Stayed at the Ritz Carlton - perfection. This is where we ended up for our dinners:

Rudi's Beisl - Excellent, casual, traditional Viennese cuisine. In a residential neighborhood and mostly locals. That's what I loved about it. Really nice to sit outside.
Gasthaus Wolf - Excellent as well. Viennese cuisine, but in more modern way. Also is a lovely residential area - only locals. Service was lovely. Sit outside if possible.

I had Wiener Schnitzel at both restaurants and they were sublime.

Vestibul (This wss not high on Sturmi's list). It was good, but it wouldn't be my first choice. Expensive. The ambiance is very nice.

Prague Trip Report

We loved Prague. It is a beautiful, magical city. Stayed at the Four Seasons - perfect in every way. We dined at the following restaurants:

Dinner-
Lokal Dlouha - Highly recommend if you want to eat Czech cuisine. Very casual and lively. We had sausage, Beef Cheek Goulash and Pork Cutlet - all yummy. When you reserve, request no smoking (if you don't smoke).

Bellevue - Continental cuisine. Upscale. Dine outside if you can. Views are spectacular. Inside very nice as well. Food and service were excellent.

Sansho - Asian inspired tasting menu. Loved every course. Very casual, great vibe. Great service. Owner was there. He was very gracious and involved. If you are able, sit outside.

La Degustation - HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. Tasting menu only. Usually no problem, as I've eaten at some of the finest restaurants NYC, Paris, etc. and always enjoy tasting menus (as mentioned re: Sansho). Did not enjoy any of the courses. They try too hard to be clever. Odd combinations and ingredients. Service was bordering on snotty; rude.

Lunch:
Kampa Park - on the river. Eat here if you can sit outside. Setting is very special facing the Charles bridge. Very good.

Loire Valley - Lunch recommendation

Will be going to Paris in Sept. and will take a day trip to the Loire Valley. Can someone please recommend a restaurant for lunch? Would prefer a farmhouse/vineyard setting. Also, one vineyard for wine tasting? I am open to location, as nothing is booked.

Vienna for 3 nights

Thank you! Yes, we have reservations. I just read about Skopik and Lohn and was wondering if I should change one of our reservations to this. What do you think? Also, should we have lunch outside at Steirereck Stadtpark? We will be there is July. Any other recommendations for lunch?

Bull and Beggar, Asheville

Loved Bull and Beggar in the River Arts District! The food is delicious and the vibe is very cool. They did a great job with the decor. Now, my three favorite restaurants in Asheville are Bull and Beggar, The Admiral and Curate.

Desperately seeking artisan bread in Delray or Boca?

Thanks for the recommendation. Used to go to Old School Bakery when they were on Atlantic. It's better than the rest, but thought it was average. Have also tried Grandma's in Delray. Cakes and pastries are good. Did not like their bread. I think there is a huge opportunity for someone to open a bakery. Le Pain Quotidien from NY should open a location in Delray or Boca. Not only is their bread great, but so is their food. Nothing like it in this area.

Desperately seeking artisan bread in Delray or Boca?

I feel like I have exhausted all of my options. Whole Foods; Boys; Panera; the French bakery on Federal near Spanish River, City Bakery. I'm really at a loss. It doesn't make sense. There was a French bakery from Lantana that was at the Delray farmer's market, but I think they went out of business and I wasn't thrilled, but it seemed like the best. Any recommendations? I would even drive to Fort Lauderdale for amazing bread

Best deli in Boca/Delray/Boynton

IMO, Zinger's in West Boca is the best!!!! I was on a mission to find the best NY deli and this is it. Excellent Corned Beef, Pastrami, Chopped Liver, Matzo Ball soup, etc., etc. I I've eaten at the best in NYC - Carnegie, 2nd Ave, Katz's. Zinger's comes pretty close.

75 Main, Delray

Hope it's true! If Mark Miletello is the new chef, then hopefully they will have a chance to succeed. That's the only way I will try 75 Main again. It would behoove them to get the word out.

75 Main, Delray

Tried it twice, hoping second time would be better. Not going back. I've been to the one in the Hampton's and wasn't thrilled. Was hopeful that this would be better. We were really looking forward to a new option on Atlantic Ave. Good location and ambiance, but food is below average. Also, the menu options aren't thrilling. The bread is awful, which is always a bad sign (doesn't make sense, as you can have great bread delivered). Hope they read this and make improvements.

Savannah - Only One Night

We went to Local 11 Ten. Our meal was excellent. The ambiance is very hip. Nice modern decor. I would highly recommend it. If you can, have one of the pedi cabs take you there and drive through the parks. Lots of fun and nice way to see the city.

Sefa Mediterranean Grill - Delray Beach

Everyone needs to try Sefa in Delray. We were there twice this week and loved both of our meals. The ambiance is terrific and the people that own it are so nice. More people have to go, as it is usually pretty quiet. and we want them to be successful. Once you try it, you will definitely return.

Casa di Pepe - New Italian in Delray Beach Pineapple Grove

We had dinner at Casa di Pepe last night. All four of us thought the food was delicious. Service was very attentive and friendly; salad is included and was very fresh; menu is moderately priced. They need to update the outside to make it a little brighter, and less similar to the restaurant that was there before. Besides that, this restaurant is a great addition to Pineapple Grove and Delray.

Patio Delray

Patio Delray is off the beaten path, but worth the visit. Food is absolutely delicious. It is on Palm Trail, about 1 mile north of Atlantic Ave.and right by the George Bush intracoastal bridge. If you want to escape the crowds on Atlantic Ave. and have far superior food than most places on the Ave., then you need to try this lovely restaurant owned by a husband and wife team.

What happened to Chorizo? Had eaten there twice and thought the food was good. We ate dinner there on Sunday with guests. We were so embarrassed - the food was awful. Does anyone know if they have a new chef? What a disappointment.

Whole Foods Has Bought Greenlife in Asheville

I just checked Whole Food's website and there is nothing listed for Asheville in "Stores in Development", so it seems that it will stay as Greenlife. That's so disappointing. Greenlife is so unappealing to me, especially their fish and meats. Nothing ever looks fresh. I can't imagine they will ever change it into Whole Foods, as Whole Foods now only opens in incredibly large spaces. Wish Whole Foods would open in Biltmore Park in one of those vast, empty spaces, or Trader Joe's for that matter.

Asheville NC foodie stuff

I hear what you're saying and did not have high expectations re: Travinia, but still expected more. We'll probably try it again. We are from Boston as well and do get those North End cravings. Try Nona Mia. It's the closest you'll come to the North End in Asheville.

Asheville NC foodie stuff

I've been to all of the restaurants in Biltmore Park. Here is my update:

Travinia - it's just ok. Gave it four chances. We have eaten a variety of food - pizza, chicken, pasta, salad and we always walk out somewhat disappointed. It's "faux" Italian food. Yes, the atmosphere and bar are nice. I do realize it's part of a chain, but so is Maggiano's which is all over the country and their food is delicious. The most authentic Italian food in Asheville is Nona Mia.

131 Main - It's convenient for those of us that live in South Asheville. I don't think it's worth driving 15 - 20 minutes to dine there, unless you are going to the movies. Food seems very fresh. I am not thrilled with their vegetable choices. Sunday brunch was very good.

Brixx - Do not like their pizza at all!!!!!

Roux - Also gave it four chances. The only thing that's really good is their flatbread, which changes daily. Brought four of our friends and everyone was turned off. It's always empty. We will never go again.

Hickory Tavern - tried it once. We had a burger and salmon and both were very good. I am not thrilled with the ambiance. It's a sports bar/restaurant and too noisy for me, but I would return if I didn't feel like venturing too far.

PF Changs - We have been there when we are too lazy to drive far, but don't really like it. The chicken lettuce wraps are decent. If you go in with low expectations and don't expect authentic Chinese food, then it's ok. Wish someone would open up an authentic Chinese restaurant.
