Edgeware Electric Sharpener? Reviews / Experience?

Looking at the Edgeware Pro Edge Elite

http://www.amazon.com/Edgeware-Pro-Ed...

instead of the Chef's Choice 110. Edgeware talks about how it uses 'interlocking' stones which dont' remove as much material.

Anybody know anything about these? Good/bad comments. I know that a manual sharpener is better but I just don't take the time to use the one I have (spyderco type) and just end up using dull knives. At least this way I'll have sharp knives more often, and my knives aren't big $$ so I'm not too worried about wear.

So just looking for comments from folks that can appreciate the application for electric sharpeners.

Thanks

Bring this thread back. LOVE Banh Mi, any good to great options in the Concordia area (give or take a few blocks, willing to trek for a good one!)

Thanks

Sandwiches / picnic food near Concordia

Thanks guys! Looks like some good recommendations. Keep them coming, I'll be writing them all down.

Sad news about the bottled beer, but I guess I should have expected that! I wonder are there ANY good local beers available in cans? I know cans are 'catching on' in the craft beer scene a bit but not sure how advanced it is locally.. If not, looks like it'll be a pretty dry race for the most part (whiskey it is!)

Anybody with Grand Prix experiance have any vendor suggestions if I don't pack enough?

Thanks

Sandwiches / picnic food near Concordia

Headed to the Grand Prix next weekend, staying at Concordia. Looking for some good options (restaurant/market/little shop) for some food to pack for the track everyday. Don't want to mess with the shitty vendors at the track, so will pack in some sandwiches and other items (recommendations welcome).

Also plan to pack in some beers, any recommendations for a good beer store (local craft brews + imports.. Belgians, etc) near Concordia?

Cheers!

Driving from Bush to Hobby, suggested BBQ spot off the highway with craft beer?

Thanks guys, looks like Hay Merchant fits the bill nicely!! Wicked beer selection!

I'll deal with the traffic I guess.. shouldn't be bad driving 'in' to downtown no?

Driving from Bush to Hobby, suggested BBQ spot off the highway with craft beer?

Hmm.. how about no worries about traffic (going to be crappy anyway sounds like) and ANY good local food (Tex Mex, home cooking, wicked burger) that isn't at a chain and has good craft beer? Should be somewhat on route between the two (it is a long enough drive as it is).

Thanks

Driving from Bush to Hobby, suggested BBQ spot off the highway with craft beer?

Have to fly into Bush and drive down to Hobby airport for a conference. Will be arriving around 4-5 pm and would like to avoid the worst traffic and also hit up a GOOD BBQ joint that also has a good craft beer selection.

Any suggested routes / locations.

Thanks!

Hodads style onion rings in LA area (Santa Monica, Hollywood, Pasadena areas)

The rings here do look good based on the yelp pictures! Thanks for the tip!

Might be good to get some onion rings to go with my double double animal style (considering the In-N-Out fries are just fair).

Hodads style onion rings in LA area (Santa Monica, Hollywood, Pasadena areas)

Can't make it down to SD this trip but we are craving Hodad's onion rings! Any suggestions for good onions rings (with that crunchy batter like at Hodad's) in the LA area?

We'll mostly be in the SM, Hollywood, and Pasadena areas but am open to any suggestions.

Thanks

Palm Springs - 5 Dinners/4 Lunches...Happy Hours

Any updates on this from folks? I take it there are no 'great' HH's in Palm Springs (I'm talking $2 Coronas, or $1 tacos.. that sort of thing!) I'm not talking high end here.. doesn't need to be awesome food, just decent atmosphere and cold CHEAP beers.

Reccomendations between Int Airport and Ohio?

Thanks for the rec's.. though not sure DeeJay's is up my alley (seems they just have ribs.. not 'bbq'). Selma's is that bad eh? Info looks good, seems like real BBQ?

What about a diner along the highway?

Reccomendations between Int Airport and Ohio?

Hey folks,

Flying into Pittsburgh Int Airport and will be driving to Steubenville (arriving mid afternoon). Looking for a good spot for a late lunch/early supper. Doesn't need to be due west of the airport, I can drive around a bit in the airport area before heading west to OH.

Interested in good spots for any of the following:

- BBQ (pulled pork, ribs, good sides)
- Burgers (prefer griddled, but grilled/pub ok too if it is really good.. would love to try a true slider spot maybe?)
- Mexican.. tacos mainly, cheap and sketchy is fine as long as it is good!

If none of the above are available.. or if you can reccomend 'any' spot in the area (no chains, no fine dining.. just GREAT casual food), I'm open to any and all.

PS: Good craft beer available.. or even a brewpub are a bonus but very appreciated. Also any reccomendations for local craft beer and/or bottle shops in the area / along the way to OH are welcome.

Cheers folks!

Haven't tried that Cafe... they have groceries?

Anybody know if Mexico Lindo make their own tortillas?

A Dream Realized - The Juicy, Smoky, Delectable Grilled Chicken Skewers of Yakitori Yakyudori (San Diego) [Review] w/ Pics!

Yes, I'm also curious if this place is still good even though the original chef has left? Should we still go out of our way to hit this place up (make a reservatoin/etc)

Thanks

Local beer suggestions

Thanks guys! I'm going to make some notes here for sure.

I agree on the 'better from the tap than the bottle' but sounds like they are all really out of the way (which doesn't work out too well if a guy wants to have more than one and still drive!). I plan on making it to Yardhouse, Downtown Johnny Brown's, Tap Room, PB Ale House, and I'm sure a few others in downtown / PB I might be forgetting (feel free to throw some suggestions out there).

I won't get to Carlsbad (though might stop in to the bottle shop on the way into town). Also seems like I won't get any Alpine from the tap (nowhere downtown or PB for this it seems).. but will try to get some bottles.

Love to hear some more suggestions.

Local beer suggestions

Well I'm not completely restricted to BevMo, just figured for selection and price it must be decent (that was some other recommendation I received on here).

Suggestions for bottle shops on the way from LAX to downtown San Diego are welcome

Local beer suggestions

Our vacation to San Diego is fast approaching and I'd like to get some last minute recommendations for local beers to try. I'm a big hop head and really like a nice strong IPA. I also appreciate one with good aroma but maybe not so crazy bitter as some of the best IPA's. Looking for draft suggestions as well as bottle suggestions (will be shopping at Bevmo if that makes a difference).

I'm familiar with Stone and will be trying that for sure. I've heard Alpine makes good IPA's but are tough to find on tap or in a bottle (unless I track down a specialty bottle shop or something, I plan on hitting up Bevmo for most of my bottle purchases).

So curious to hear some recommendations for my beer style from the local offerings. I have a bunch of spots picked out to eat/drink at and will keep an eye out for these.

Thanks!

Best Wings in San Diego

Sneak Joint in PB have decent wings? I see they are 25c each on Monday nights. Anybody try them before?

Not looking for huge wings, prefer the smaller ones (breaded over non also preferred).

Where should I head for a 25c wing night in PB?

A Dream Realized - The Juicy, Smoky, Delectable Grilled Chicken Skewers of Yakitori Yakyudori (San Diego) [Review] w/ Pics!

Also thinking of going. Curious on portion sizes/cost. Seems like one could order 8-10 'orders' (so 16-20 skewers) for about $40 (plus beers, etc of course). That seem reasonable?

Also, I hear a bit about a Happy Hour from 6-7. Any good, worth trying to go during that time? We would be going either Fri, Sat, or Sun night. Happy Hour on weekends too?

Delivery suggestions near corner Beech / 2nd Ave

Thanks Phee! We'll consider checking out Cap's for sure.

I have done some searching on Little Italy in general, seems like Buon Appetito are Mona Lisa Deli popular. I'd be interested to hear your top 5 or so spots (lunch or dinner, not fine dining) in the area.

Thanks

Delivery suggestions near corner Beech / 2nd Ave

Staying at the Motel 6 near the corner of Beech and 2nd Ave. Looking for suggestions for delivery (pizza, asian, etc) in the area. If there is something real close (2-3 blocks) we could do that too for eating in, but looking for something easy and decent taste (cardboard pizza need not apply).

Bubba's Smokehouse any good?

Yup, that is why I'm asking (and also because I haven't heard much about them). As long as it is real BBQ, I'd probably give it a try.

Bubba's Smokehouse any good?

http://www.bubbassmokehousebbq.com/

Came across this place in La Jolla. Anybody have any experiance with them? Are they a 'true' BBQ place with a wood smoke pit? I'm not all that excited about parboiled "BBQ" (like Phil's).

Downtown reccomendation w/ preferences

Ooops.. I meant 'leek' gravy (that was on one of the menus above).

I realize that most here are orientated to the 'fine dining' realm but I also see lots of posts about just good food. We're just looking for more simple food in a good environment. It is just as tough to find good simple food as it is to find good 'fine dining'. By 'special meal' we just mean we are willing to spend some extra bucks (the rest of the trip will be pretty inexpensive.. which is fine as it matches our tastes fine) for the meal.

I guess I should just do some more research and then ask for opinions on particular restaurants.

Thanks

Downtown reccomendation w/ preferences

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Though I think I haven't done a good job of describing what we're looking for. Based on the suggestions so far, I think I should state we are looking for really 'non-foodie' food. Not sure how to describe the 'cuisine' we are fans of, but 'leech gravy' and the sort aren't really up our alley.

I guess we are looking for more simple food/flavours.. just done well!

Interesting vibe/view would be nice.. not talking top of 20 story building or anything but a nice outdoor patio or the like would be nice.

Maybe I'm asking too much.. not that sort of thing in the area?

Thanks!

Tim

We don't mind jumping on a shuttle or something if that makes sense too (more than a one connection is probalby too much).

Alpine Brewpub

Like the sound of Alpine, I'm a huge fan of hoppy IPAs! I'm headed to SD for vacation in late Sept. What are some reccomended places that would have Alpine on tap? Will be spending a few days downtown and a few more days in PB/OB area.

Also, do they carry Alpine at Bev Mo? If not, good beer stores to hit up on the way in/out of downtown?

Thanks
