Best Eggnog

Anthos2 - Did you ever get an answer to this? Do you fully combine and then store, or only store the first part, and add the egg whites and cream weeks/months/years later when ready to serve?

New Year's Eve restaurant recs

A group of us are looking for a good restaurant for new year's eve. We are all 30 years old (most married, some not, no children). Our goal is a decent meal, that is fun but not over the top crazy with terrible food and a standing room only vibe. We are desperately trying to avoid those standard "buy a ticket" and get dinner and free drinks all night at some trendy lounge as I feel we are too old for that type of evening. I think there will be between 10 - 14 of us, depending on what restaurant we choose.

There is really no preference on food. Location can be anywhere from Canal to the Upper East Side. If we can keep it to $100 per person, including drinks, all the better.

If you have any suggestions please let me know.

Nice, upscale restaurant beyond the standard fare

Ideally a place where entrees can be found in the $20's. High $20's are fine. I am trying to stay away from restaurants where the cheapest entree is over $30.

Nice, upscale restaurant beyond the standard fare

My wife and I are taking out another couple in mid december for a celebratory dinner of sorts. We plan to pay for the whole meal, so while we want some place nice, we also are not looking for the 8 course tasting dinner at Daniel. For example, I love the idea of Tocqueville but it is out of our price range.

We have no preference on food type or location. Although Eastside is easier, a great spot on the Westside or downtown will not be overlooked. Extra points for something on the Upper East Side, but again, we are not married to the area.

Please help if you can!

Bachelor party in Austin

Really appreciate all the guidance. Any non BBQ restaurants you could recommend downtown that would also be food for our second night in town? Again, we like good food but are not looking to be steered tot he fanciest (or the least fancy) place in town. A fun place for a group with good food, basically.

Bachelor party in Austin

Any BBQ joints downtown that you could recommend? Also, any with atmosphere? Dont care about the look of the joint, but a place that we could a) walk to instead of trying to get 4 cabs and, b) sit down as a group and order from a waitress instead of standing online to order? I feel like with 15 people waiting in line for 2 hours could prove cumbersome.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Bachelor party in Austin

Looking to go to Austin for a bachelor party. The weekend coincides with a Longhorns game. We are about 15 people. Any recommendations for places to eat? We lean towards better food/nicer establishments without the need for white table cloths or dinner jackets if that helps at all. We are also a HUGE fan of BBQ and would entertain all options there.

Please let me know if anyone has any recommendations and if they think that the crowd from the football game might make this difficult.

Thanks,
Gabriel

Rehearsal Dinner Space for 40-60 People

We are actually very open and flexible regarding food type/location. I think Asian is out and anything with a really low quality atmosphere. We live in the high 20's and prefer something south of 59th street but we are not particularly choosy and if someone had a great option in the 70's or 80's we would definitely check it out.

Rehearsal Dinner Space for 40-60 People

Hi,

We are looking for a rehearsal dinner venue for 50ish people in Manhattan. All in, we would love to be able to keep it under $100 a person. We do not need a full open bar but would like to offer our guests wine and beer. If you have any suggestions please let us know!

Thanks!

Restaurant recomendations in SF

Hi,

I are going to San Francisco (staying in Nob Hill) on Friday and Saturday night and need a few restaurant recommendations. I do not want to break the bank, ie places like Gary Danko and the like are not viable options. We are from New York, know good food, and don't want to get caught in the tourist trap. If you have any suggestions for places please let me know. We are not looking for anything location specific but within a 25 minute walk would be great.

Thanks in advance

How long will home made (cooked) Eggnog last before it spoils?

I do not know if the ABV is above 20% in the Alton Brown recipe. Perhaps I will simply add additional booze and hope for the best. Any other suggestions are always welcome.

How long will home made (cooked) Eggnog last before it spoils?

Hi,

I am going to a Christmas party this weekend and wanted to bring a bottle of home made Eggnog as a gift. I was curious to know how long the batch will last so i can tell the host.

I will very likely follow the Alton Brown recipe:
http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/al...

I have heard dates ranging from 2 days to 1 month. Some people say that cooking the mixture + the alcohol kills all the bacteria which will enhance the shelf life of the product. Is this true? Does cooking or adding alcohol matter at all?

Please let me know if you have any idea about the matter.

Thanks.

Organic Meyer Lemons

Hi,

I live in Central Jersey - Long Branch - and am looking for a place to find organic meyer lemons. Any ideas? They have to be organic. I have tried searching on line for a few markets but had no luck.

Please let me know if you know of anyplace.

Have you tried TableXChange?

I used it back in June to get a table at Little Owl in NYC. The service worked well and I have not used anywhere else as of yet. I would not quite equate it to buying a bottle ( I mean which bottles cost $20?) and do not use it every week but I have been trying to eat at Little Owl for months and figured the $20 was a drop in the bucket compared to the $300 dinner bill. I would use the service again in the Fall when I am back in area and looking to dine out again.

I will look into Dante's Kitchen. I also was thinking about Herbsaint. Any thoughts?

Dinner for a large group of people

Thanks everyone for all their replies. I will look into a bunch of these. Are there any more in particular you would suggest knowing that the group is mostly male - and by no means are we loud but we are not necessarily looking for a place where we need to wear dinner jackets.

Thanks again.

Dinner for a large group of people

Thanks, we were hoping to keep it to $80-$90 a person including booze and tip. You mentioned a whole bunch of places here, if you could pick 3 or 4 from that whole list which would it be? I read decent things about K Pauls and Bayanas in Zagat. NOLA can not handle a party our size and Commader's seems a little out of our budget.

Dinner for a large group of people

I am going down to New Orleans at the very end of August and need some suggestions to go with a large group of people (18). We are already going to Jaquimo's and Tejaque's and are looking for one final meal that is slightly nicer in ambiance but still fun and not outrageously expensive. Does anything fit this bill? if not please let me know any other place at all that might just be good for a party of this size.
