Recommendations - Three Days in Seattle

For breakfast/lunch, I'd recommend Macrina Bakery (http://www.macrinabakery.com/) - there is a location in Belltown, just a few blocks from Seattle Center.

Volunteer Park Cafe (http://alwaysfreshgoodness.com/) is another great option, near Volunteer Park.

For Bainbridge Island, I second MsMaryMc's recommendations of Blackbird and Harbour Public House. I also love Hitchcock Deli (http://hitchcockdeli.com/HitchcockDel...). May be out of your requested price range, but lunch at Restaurant Marche (http://restaurantmarchebainbridge.com/) is excellent, followed by a delicious sweet treat at Mora (http://moraicecream.com/).

Favorite chowhound stops on the Skagit tulip trail?

Love the Rexville Grocery! They do have table and counter seating inside, but I'd recommend picnicking on the lawn adjacent to the market. http://www.rexvillegrocery.com/

H Mart coming to Bellevue?

Produce prices are a bit cheaper than Uwajimaya, but the selection is quite limited. The store is quite small - I think there are a total of two or three aisles. Haven't visited the other locations in the area, but it is not comparable to the H Mart stores I've visited in SoCal. Will likely not be returning, as I still had to go to Uwajimaya for my weekly groceries.

Seattle and Bellevue with Kids

Have not been, but Malay Satay Hut is close to your hotel. Might satisfy your Indonesian craving.

Bai Tong (Thai) is excellent, and less than a 2 minute drive.

Caspian (Persian)
Mayuri (Indian)

Din Tai Fung (Taiwanese) is a solid choice, located in downtown Bellevue, about a 10 minute drive.

Downtown Kirkland has some good options as well. Trellis is good, as is Hanuman (Thai). Sirena Gelato is excellent. Your kids will enjoy the waterfront area.

Off-topic, but there are tons of amazing parks in the area. North Rose Hill Woodlands Park Playground, in Kirkland, is a must. Wilburton Park (Bellevue) is also great.

Assuming you are referring to the Redmond Marriott Town Center? If so, what type(s) of food do you prefer, and are you ok w/ driving 10-15 minutes?

Steamed Buns

FoodDee: Give it a try! Eastern Pearl has the best dim sum I've had in the Seattle metro area. Have been there twice and enjoyed the food on both visits. On the Eastside, Joi's was ok, but has closed; Top Gun is bad; have not been to Noble Court.

Steamed Buns

Have you tried Harbor City (ID) or Eastern Pearl (Redmond)? Din Tai Fung also has decent buns (both sweet and savory).

U:Don

2nd your recommendation. Absolutely love U:Don. I work nearby and go there almost once a week. Haven't tried the tan tan, but will try it next time. My favorite is the ontama soup.

@HungWeiLo: Although the majority of eateries on the Ave are mediocre, I have found a few gems, including Chili's South Indian Restaurant, Morsel, and Somtam Thai. The biscuit sandwiches at Morsel are phenomenal.

Seattle Din Tai Fung

Not to get too far off topic from the OP, but I would probably agree w/ your mother. I just walked by Boom Noodle and Blue C Sushi (owned by the same people) at Bellevue Square and they were both nearly empty - at 8:30pm on a Friday night. Would love to see them replaced with some better quality options as they are both very mediocre.

Hot Pot?

Not necessarily better, but another one to try is Boiling Point.

Din Tai Fung's quality

Have been to locations in Singapore, China, Taiwan (including the original shop), both stores in Arcadia, all multiple times, and the Bellevue location is definitely not "inferior" to the others.

We live right across the street from the Bellevue location and go there about once a month. I'm always impressed w/ the efficiency of their operations and consistency of their food. In my opinion, any differences would be negligible.

If you think the Arcadia locations are inferior to those in Taipei and Shanghai, I'd probably skip the Bellevue location as it sounds like you'll probably be disappointed as well.

Factor in the flight time and ticket price, I'll choose the Bellevue location anyday.

Regardless, enjoy your first visit to Seattle!

Fried soup dumplings / shen jian bao / shengjian mantou

Love your assessment of Twilight 7 - I had the same thoughts, it looks a bit shady from the outside. The place always seems to be packed though...

quick lunch near the king county courthouse?

I just served jury duty back in October and went to Salumi twice, as well as Chuck's Hole in the Wall BBQ twice. Chuck's pulled pork sandwich is fantastic. http://holeinthewallbbq.blogspot.com/

Japanese ramen chain to open store in Bellevue

Mixed reviews from two separate friends who went tonight - one enjoyed it while the other had a bad experience (lukewarm broth, long waits, service issues). I'll probably give them a few weeks to iron out the kinks before trying it out.

BBQ Duck

The roast duck at Uwajimaya is good. If you live on the east side, the sticky rice at Tofu 101 is excellent.

Steamed or boiled dumplings (Asian) in the Seattle area?

Highly recommend Little Taipei, in Bellevue. Best boiled dumplings in the Seattle metro area, and among the best I've ever had.

AQ or Gitane?

Thanks for the inputs, Robert and goldangl95!

AQ or Gitane?

Thanks for the feedback! Both sound like great options.

AQ or Gitane?

I've got time for one dinner in the city and have narrowed it down to either AQ or Gitane. Any thoughts?

Lounge-y, quiet, open late on Sunday, north Phx?

I was also thinking of the lounge on the lower level of the JW Marriott, but they have nightly live music (6-10pm), which can be kind of loud. There are various seating areas on the lobby level which might work well.

Other suggestions would be The Rim Lobby Lounge and Library areas at the Westin Kierland.
