Looking for a speialty market within 30 min from darien - Ct.

Hi I am looking for a place that has stuff like foie gras and sea urchin. Thanks

Luxury Breakfast in Manhattan?

agaaga... breakfast i am not so sure about I would look at hotels though and the Waldorf does an excellent brunch. However it is possible to go to any restaurant e.g. Bouley, Daniel, Jean-Georges and order dessert and only dessert. I would reccomend a place that serves many courses. I would recommend Caravaggio on 74 st. the pastry chef is a master and could send about 5 different courses truly amazing and his coconut-passion fruit bannana soup with ricotta ice cream is divine. I have also heard of a Japanese cake place on the UES that serves only cake and Champagne and the cake is fantastic.

Best Gyros?

yes!!! definitely not Jewish kinda smacked me in the face my first time. The must be pandering to the locals. Anyhow the guys are from Algeria and really friendly. They always give you the top of the pita with some hummus as you wait. I want one no I want two now!!!

Best Gyros?

THE BEST MOST ULTIMATE GYRO (ACTUALLY SHWARMA) NO TAZIKI BUT LOTS OF GREAT TAHINI. i SWEAR i LOVE THIS PLACE!! IT'S BETWEEN 103 AND 102 AND BROADWAY!!! SOMETHING ISRAELI RESTAURANT WITH A BLUE AWNING OPEN UNTIL 430 OR SOMETHING.
THEY USE RIB MEAT NOT LEG. I SUGGEST EXTRA TAHINI AND SPICY. I NORMALLY EAT TWO AND FIGHT NOT RETURNING FOR A THIRD. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!! TELL THEM BHUTROS SENT YOU (ARBIC FOR PETER)

There goes the neighborhood...

the mendiant tarte!!!! I never even knew I liked nuts so much!! or the Croquant oh my god, It was so good.

Ice Cream Souffle- Please Help Take My Mom Back to Paris

Cheater sabayon.... do tell!!

There goes the neighborhood...

That is too bad. I work in kitchens. I have seen thousands of brunch services. Lets just say I would call it the most unprofessional service. People are late, don't show up, lose all focus and want to go home. It's like a really great waiter on Sunday morning after a night out, just doesn't care. Even though every other service the guy is a champ. I am not condoning this behavior but no matter where you go it is the same. None the less brunch is one of my favorite meals.

Meals at culinary schools/institutes

I have heard good things about l'ecole too! please tell me what you thought of it. I believe it affordable too?

fatty crab - thumbs down

Did you confront him???

Ice Cream Souffle- Please Help Take My Mom Back to Paris

I believe that to be a bombe!! recipe being pate au bombe. Very good, versatile and old school. works well in a terrine, just slice and serve!!

Where is the best MISO SOUP?

That sounds great thanks!!

Ice Cream Souffle- Please Help Take My Mom Back to Paris

It's sounds like a souffle glace!! It is served cold. For better results try using acitate(flexible plastic) in place of the parchment.

Good luck and bon appetite

Ice Cream Souffle- Please Help Take My Mom Back to Paris

Sounds like a very interesting dish. Question: what were the flavors used? This might explain if the souffle was made with creme patissiere or with a combination of whipped whites/yolks and a flavor base. The former is associated with earthy and heavier flavors; coffee, chocolate and banana. While the later with light citrusy flavors, my favorite being the passion fruit souffle.
Another interesting tidbit that might lend a clue and explain why you see meringue as an answer would be that the baked alaska (FKA Florida Alaska) was actually developed by a food scientist. The BA proved of the insulating abilities of air( a meringue is like 99% air or something).
I am going to guess that your mother's favorite desert utilized the latter souffle base in conjunction with ice cream.
None the less I will ask the pastry chef (he's a master) tomorrow at work!!

Was it served hot?? Or was it scourched in which case a sabayon(think sweet hollindaise) could have topped off the ice cream?

Restaurants everyone loves--except you

Ditto on Le bernadin, I spent $285 for lunch by myself and only had a few cocktails, it all seemed pedestrian save the desert which was outstanding. Oceana I think deserves another shot. I believe Ocean is one of the best restaurants in the country. However I think the menu has week some week points. What did you order?

NYC must eats

Sorry all, I just fired my editor!!
The Parker Meridien is on 119 W. 56 st., however the hotel has entrances on two st. I believe the other street is south to 55 st. but I am not positive.
The "burger joint" serves an exceptional burger in a pseudo country club setting, where people draw on the walls. The "burger joint" is located in the lobby and though it is a little camouflaged, huge white wall with-out any sign and entrance behind a curtain, just follow your nose or ask one of the many people in the lobby.

NYC must eats

MMRuth,
Totally , good call. Great spot.

NYC must eats

RGR,
You are right, on both accounts. I never did well in English class.

I heard about a bar that floats in the middle of the Hudson near Ellis Island. You need to take a launch to get there. I can't find it online though "commanders????"

NYC must eats

Here is a list:
new york noodle town, degustation, brunch at the waldorf, parker merridian for a burger, cocktails at the mandarin oriental,(35 floor of time warner building) lunch at Chantrell, Lombardis and I would have recommended payard bistro but they are closed....

brunch upper east side? creative american cuisine?

I would recommend Orsay. Great Prix Fixe menu in the most beautiful restaurant in the UES. I love the French toast and the eggs benedict!!

Where is the best MISO SOUP?

Where is the BEST MISO SOUP? I like lots of seaweed in mine.

Bacon, Egg, and Cheese?

oh yeah.. for an elegant option the eggs benedict can be converted by adding another e. muffin!! Many varieties personal favorite, tasso, poblano holindaise and jack cheese. I do not recommend swimming after eating this, ever!!!

Light meal near 60th and 3rd

Or Chula on 57 between lex and 3rd. It's a buffet, the food is very good, but be willing to eat. When I first ate there I was hungry so I filled my plate pretty good and when I returned to my seat I found the table full of plates. The waiter had taken food from the kitchen and put it on the table, and that continues throughout the meal. Note: The foodis better closer to 11:30 naturally.

Light meal near 60th and 3rd

Our place Shanghi Tea Garden on 55 bet. Les and third (www.ourplace-teagarden.com.) Is the spot!! The food is always executed well; hot, seasoned and diverse. I recommend the soup dumplings!! It has great ambiance and the service is full pro and they are fast. These guys have been doing this for a long time. They actually serve you your fried rice and make your pancakes in front of you for both the Peeking duck and moo shoo platters, I recommend both. I think other restaurants need to take note. I never spend over $20 for lunch.

Fresh Mangosteen in NY?

The Mangosteens are everywhere!! and the vendors know they are HOT!
I am not exaggerating. At 10 ft. the vendor identified me as a mangosteen buyer. How did I fit the part? I was in a biking outfit on crowded sidewalk and "Mangosteen, Mangostee." They were right! Worth every penny and delicious!!
Two questions, I sensed a slight floral note that I imagine if it were stronger would have made the mangosteen even tastier was mine under ripe? and when am I going to see a desert?

Bacon, Egg, and Cheese?

The best Bec are from CT. Try adding sausage to your BEC, It is like a wrestling match going down however the competition is totally sexy. AKA "cholesterol special"
