Thanksgiving in Greenville ( Tues-Friday)

I can't give a very descriptive report because I wasn't there, but he did order most of the menu at all these places. His absolute favorite was Bacon Brothers Pub (unique menu & great Charcuterie), Mi Kong for Vietnamese (solid food and not because Huy's a friend), High Cotton ( for Thanksgiving because he knew the one here is decent & that his mother could get something traditional if she wanted). Schwaben House (excellent German)
The one place he missed that he most regrets is Fonda Rosalinda, a Mexican place run by a mother & daughter heavy on Southeastern Coastal Mexican Cuisine. He spoke to the owner but they were closed that day.Next time for sure!

Thanksgiving in Greenville ( Tues-Friday)

My husband will be in Greenville for Thanksgiving (Tues-Fri) and would like recommendations for traditional & non traditional Thanksgiving (no hotels, please)
The rest of the days, he is interested in ethnic food.We make pizza at our restaurant, so none of that.Right now on his list is: Saigon Fast Food
Mi Kong (this is definite, our old roomates shop)
Cafe Poulusta
Rosalinda Fonda
La Estella
We got this list from old post.Anything to add or take away? He will eat anything and even more so if we can't get it in Charleston. Thanks for any input.

Mexican Restaurants Around Charleston, SC

I do like La Nortena a lot, but I would also recommend Los Parados on Ashley Phosphate if you are not picky.Nobody speaks English so its a point at the menu place for me , but everything I have tried has been good and extra cheap.

Recommendations for Folly Beach, SC

I will start by saying that I am affiliated w/ this restaurant on Folly- The' Wich Doctor and are very unique. As per Chowhound guidelines, we have been mentioned on previous threads. If that's not your thing, Heart Woodfire Kitchen on James Island ( about 7 miles from Folly) has a pretty good reputation and is laid back. Also, on James Island in the Food Lion shopping center is a year old place called Pick Thai.Good Luck!

Bowen's Island Charleston

I just caught an episode of Unique Eats on the Cooking Channel and Bowens was part of the show.Pretty cool!

Bowen's Island Charleston

I just ate there again Wednesday night and dang the oysters were perfect. Not too many people doing the "all you can eat" so the oyster cooker kept them coming.I had my rehearsal dinner there and cannot say enough good things about Bowen's or the Barber family.Good people!

Bessinger's BBQ - Charleston, SC

Agreed. In my opinion Bessingers and Maurices are sorry excuses for BBQ.I'm a big vinegar fan and I enjoy Browns BBQ on 52 between Kingstree and Lake City.Sweatmans is worth the trip, but they are mustard base.Browns ribs blew me away.
As far as burgers go, it's too bad Bert's bar on Sullivans isn't around anymore, they had the best burgers i have ever tasted for under$6.YUM

Charleston: Siena

Sienna has closed but the chef is Ken Vendrinski and he opened a place downtown called Trattoria Lucca.I have not eaten there but I do know that there is some real talent in that kitchen.I used to love Sienna and pretty sure Lucca won't disappoint.Good luck!

Cafe Europa (Bosnian Food) on Dorchester

yes, about a mile past International Blvd in a strip mall with a Substation 2.It's also across from a Mexican grocery.I think it used to be a pizza place.

Cafe Europa (Bosnian Food) on Dorchester

I finally got around to checking out Cafe Europa yesterday and it was great. We started off with an assorted meats, cheese, cornichons, roasted red pepper spread and their EXCELLENT house made pita bread. My husband ordered the hamburger with the red pepper spread. It was served on pita bread and was great.I had Sarma, wich is pickled cabbage stuffed with beef and rice in a tomato broth with a feta spread.Unfortunately, I saved no room for dessert.
I will definitely be back next time I am in N.Chas! It doesn't carry much weight with me, but some of you may be persuaded by the fact that Guy Fieri shot an episode at their old Texas location.YUM.

South Carolina burger law

I believe it was about 2 years ago when burgers in S.C could be served below med-well in establishments that didn't grind there own meat. The last establishment I worked in had the same sign as Amen Street because DHEC said it had to posted on the menu or some other equally visible place.

Sunday Brunch - casual dress - Charleston or Folly Island, SC

Lil Mama's has closed too.
I will say I just had brunch again at The Fat Hen last weekend. They do not do bottomless mimosas anymore (BOO), but they offer 10.00 carafes. We had the Creme Brulee stuffed French Toast (yum), Crab Crepe (loads of crab), Quiche special and the Duck Au Gratin.
After 2 Mimosa carafes and a signature drink, our bill was around $95.00(excluding tip).Thought that was more than fair.Go online and get a reservation; they are always busy at brunch!

Asian Food in Charleston

Definitely visit H&L Asian Market (at Rivers & 526)....The diversity is fantastic. You will also want to try the very small cafe inside (cafe closed Mon and Tues). The pho is the real deal .The only place that has pho (almost) as good is Quyen on J.I
Another place to try is Taste of Thai on Orleans Rd in West Ashley. They have been there a while and just recently opened a place down town.Heard mixed reviews about the downtown location but the W.A one was still great 2 wks ago.Their curry is like silk and I highly recommend the duck!
I forgot to mention that at the cafe in H&L, they have a spicy duck soup that is superb!!

Folly Beach update

Smoky Oak Taproom on Camp Rd has surprisingly decent BBQ and excellent chicken livers.Theyve got a good beer selection as well.Service is a little staggered but for being open and busy for about 6 mos and word of mouth advertisement only, they are doing something right.

Suggestions for Rooftop Bar in Charleston, Sc?

No frills, no food, no blenders, but if you are going to be on Folly beach I would go to the rooftop bar on the 3rd floor of Snapper Jacks.Has an ocean view and you can enjoy the laid-back Folly lifestyle.Beach attire is fine.

Seafood Dinner Reccomendations in Charleston, SC

Although it is similar to The Wreck in Mt. Pleasant, I think Bowens Island is much better.Their menu and history can be found at www.bowensislandrestaurant.com.It has a lot of character , but is cash only.Only opened Tues-Sat and almost always busy.I just was there on Tues and at 5:30 there seating was no problem, but by 6:15 there was a LONG wait.

Hamburger Dives Charleston, SC

It's not in Charleston, but if your ever in the Walterboro area, there is a place called Dairyland. You order outside at the counter with just a few picnic tables. Not worth a special visit, but the burgers are hand-pattied and a double bacon cheeseburger ATW will set you back $3.79 and I think it's probably exactly what you're looking for.

Florence SC dinner?

I am from Florence and worked there a long time ago. After the owner/chef passed away it was owned partly by Victors, which still exist in a different location.I only go to Flo for holidays...probably the best casual fine dining in town(Victors) but always hit or miss.In my opinion, Red Bone Alley is too chain-like.Percy and Willie's (I think) are owned by the same people that own California Dreaming.Overall, there are not a lot of choices in Florence and it's not a foodie destination spot, but it has potential (growing rapidly). Please inform me when it does....

Is Good Asian possible in Charleston SC?

Party Kiingdom is okay.I love Pho and like my mint, shoots, etc to not be wilted. That is usually what happens.Try the Pho at H&L.Also, their Duck soup is wonderful. It seems like Pho Bac has been up and down lately.Don't know why?

This place is fantastic.Hadnt been there since they remodeled.Went about 2 weeks ago and we ordered the basil rolls,Red curry duck (the curry was impressive-so silky),Pad Thai( about the best Ive had in Charleston). For dessert, sticky rice cooked in coconut milk with a coconut custard-yummy.I certainly hope they will be around for a long time.

Best BBQ near Charleston

Definitely JB's Smokeshack on Johns Island (Maybank Hwy).It is buffet style with pulled pork, bbq chix and fried chix (I know, BUT try the fried chix) Vegetables on the buffet are too numerous to type down all good but needing salt and pepper. Ribs are on the menu but not on the buffet, call first check hours and it might be cash only (I can't remember).A trio of sauces, vinegar, red and mustard.
