Best Pho in the NOLA area by far!
One night, November 28 in Dallas, downtown...what ya got?
Twinwillow,
By no means dumb, you must know me! I love pizza! Love it! My co-worker and I have it narrowed down to Cane Rosso and Plye's! Thanks for the great suggestions and I will let everyone know which one we choose and how it was.

Only going to be in Dallas one night, Monday November 28. Where would you go for one meal in Downtown Dallas (Elm Street)?? Any type food, any price range just something you CAN NOT MISS.
Thanks,
Steve
Where can I find burnt-ends in New Orleans?
I would think the only places would be The Joint in the Bywater or Squeal uptown. NOLA not a big BBQ town.
Super Bowl Weekend
Not sure if you're still coming or not but here are few places that I know are having parties. I'm sure every place in town will have something. I heard on the radio this a.m. that this is usually a very slow weekend for the hotels in town but they are reporting most hotels are full. It's going to be insane and a lot of fun, especially when the Saints pull this win off!
Gordon Biersch would be a great place to watch the game. It's on Poydras and Convention Center Blvd.

Cafe Giovanni is have a Superbowl party and Chef Duke (the owner) is a huge Who Dat and I'm sure this place will be rocking. He's got great food,

Where ever you decide to go, plan on getting there early. I think every place in town will be packed to the gills.
Have fun!
Abita Springs/Mandeville Area Sing out!!
Bourbonstjoe, I have to disagree. I've eaten at the pub 3 times in the last month or so and everything I had was pretty good. It's bar food with a little upscale to it. The burgers were very good, cooked medium if asked and that's kind of rare :). Some of the pastas are pretty good too. Yes there are better places in the area but I don't think the pub is nasty!
My 93 year old grandmother in law has moved in with us for medical reasons. She loves to go out on Sunday for dinner somewhere after Mass. She grew up in Abita in the 1920s so we head over there after Mass and drive around. It's amazing what she remebers and points out. We went straight to the house where she lived!!! And, the current owner was in the yard, saw us looking at the house and came over and invited us in so she could see the inside. Pretty cool that she did that, but I guess when you have a 93 old woman with you how much trouble could you cause!
So we've been hitting all the area places on Sundays. Thinking about creating a blog called "Sunday's with Grams" and list all the different places we eat at!
I also like Mamma D's pizza right across from the pub. Small place but very good pizza.

northshore pizza
Wow I need to try Biagio's Deli!! I love PiZZA! I agree with you as far as Pizza Man, but I do like Coscino's. Especially their meatball pizza. Pretty good. Have you tried Sorellis Pizza in downton Covington? I've been once and the pizza was pretty good. I hear they spent $$$ on a brick oven. The night I was there it was also block party night so they were super busy, I will go back though.
There is a place on 21 in Covington across from the Target, not sure of the name but it's not bad either.

A decent burger....
I live in Covington and here are my favorites.
Bears in Mandeville, Times Grill Mandeville, Sweet Lous, Hwy 21 Covington, Zea's Covington, Calypso Cafe, Old Covington.
Sweet Lou's is trying to do the "build your own burger" thing like Phil's in Metairie. The burgers there are really good. Service was way off the night I was there but I will go again. I used to really like Times but for some reason their buns aren't what they use to be.
I hope this helps!

Located in New Orleans East is IMO the best Vietnamese Restaurant in the city. They even had a booth at Jazz Fest there and were serving great spring rolls!!
Give them a try!
Gregory & Pete's (?)
Very good breakfast and not bad lunches. Each day is a different special. If you do go, ask to use the bathroom. You go thru this tiny kitchen, out the back door and into the smallest bathroom I've ever been in. Like the post said, super nice waitress, probably been there 40 years!

Driving through tomorrow - casual late lunch near French Quarter?
What about Mandina's on Canal? Great New Orleans casual restaurant and open all day.
And if you are coming on I-10 from the west you can get off on I-610 to by pass the downtown traffic and your first exit is Canal Blvd. Take a right, go up about 2 miles and you will have to sort of bear right then turn left onto Canal and Mandina's is on your right about 2 miles down.

Best Crawfish Pie
ScarlettNola, I take it!! I love crawfish pies and would love a GREAT recipe!
Thanks,

Royal Red Shrimp, Can I Find It?
They have not moved, It is Northshore Seafood. The phone number is 985-626-7752. The guy that owns it name is "Stretch", super nice guy! I haven't noticed any Reds there lately, might be out of season?
Bulk Red Pepper Flakes
Sam's, again doesn't have bulk but has giant containers.
Does this work? I have a black lab that is digging for oil in my backyard. I've tried red pepper powder but he still digs! I have an acre lot and some of it's left natural, you'd think he'd dig there,,,but NOOOOO. Right in the middle of the grass.
Girlfriend's 1st time to 'Nawlins
All of it sounds good, but I'd skip Mother's. With the temps in the high 90s there is always a super long line out the door (I work across the street). The food is OK but the prices are out of this world. Went there a couple of weeks ago with a vendor here from another city. I got 1/2 shirmp po-boy, cup of gumbo and a diet Coke,,,$23.50. I asked the lady at the register if this was a large po-boy and a bowl of gumbo and she said no. If' I wasn't with the vendor I'd have left.
If you're looking for great po-boys and pretty much the same type food as Mother's then I'd go to Johnny's Po-boys on St. Louis Street.

I hope this helps,
