Incanto on "Best Thing I Ever Ate"
Thank you -- I'm sure that's it -- although I must say that the leg on the show was waaay bigger than the one wineguy had! Must have been the camera angle!
Incanto on "Best Thing I Ever Ate"
I caught the last few minutes of this show -- and was intrigued by the meal that was served to Aaron Sanchez(?) -- a big ham-like chunk of beef? A stack of bone marrow was involved. Looked amazing and wonder if it's a made-for-TV item or can be special-ordered by regular diners.
Does anyone remember the name of the elderly French woman giving cooking lessons in SF in the 1970's?

Asian desserts...why don't I like them?
The only bearable dessert was a Taro Ice Cream I had years ago -- not the purple stuff you can buy in markets -- it was the actual taro colored and absolutely delicious;. The question is, which restaurant served it?! Believe me, I've called around and have tried to track it down!
For quick take out fried ckn in Berkeley - TC or Popeyes?
Thank you for the thorough report -- sounds as if you really can't go wrong with either -- except I'm pretty addicted to Popeye's rb&r!. I'll also do a side by side comparison next time I'm in Berkeley.
How are those donuts?
Chinese roasted peanuts.
Here's a recipe for Hom Suey fah song which I've made (and gifted) successfully:
For each pound of raw peanuts, boil for 2 mins in 2 C water, 6 Tb sugar, 5 tsp salt and 1 star anise. Cool and soak o'night. Drain in colander 6-8 hrs. Bake on cookie sheet 60 mins @ 250 and then 2-4 hrs @ 200. After 2-1/2 hrs, take a few peanuts out and let cool, if they are crisp, they are ready to be taken out of oven.
Warning: they're kinda addictive!

Both are on San Pablo, but considering convenience and taste (never had TC's) - which would you go for?

How about Lefty O'Doul's, hof-brau so they can pick whatever they want -- kinda raucous as I recall , maybe they'll get into the piano bar scene -- and it's right there on Geary.
