August Openings and Closings

Saw that Joe V's in South End is moving to Brookline. While not a destination dining spot, it was reliable and friendly. Anybody hear more about the move or what might go into the space?

Good food with a view

Thanks! This helps a lot. I missed this string.

Good food with a view

Hi all,

A group of us are coming to SF and it's the first time for some. We're looking for a good, but not stuffy, restaurant with a good (or great) view of the City or water. I've researched the board and didn't find anything. We're willing to spend money for a good meal, but not an "expense account" or "break the bank" type amounts. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

ginger park vs myers and chang

Haven't been yet to Ginger Park, but can't wait. Chef Yao's restaurant AZ in NYC was great so I'm looking forward very much to try Ginger Park.

Best martini?

Oak Room is fab. I also like Brasserie Jo at the Colonnade Hotel. Well made and a decent size glass.

early thoughts on graduation dinner

Hi fellow hounds!

There will be a group of 10-12 folks (mostly adult family) celebrating 2 mba graduates from Northeastern this May. We'd like to walk to a place after the ceremony that would have room for all of us and with entrees around $20-$25. Initial thoughts are City Table, Brassiere Jo's, and Toro. Any recommendations from the group? Thanks much in advance!

best stuffed clams

Hey fellow hounders,

I have this weakness for stuffed clams/quahogs and was wondering if others out there have a similar weakness and where you had the best stuffed clams? I'll start...believe it or not, at Summer Shack. Had some bacon and not too much bread stuffing. Yours?

Any Info on Chinese Restaurant with Private Rooms

Thanks all! Great suggestions. Dinner's not until this January which gives us time to check out the places suggested.

Looking for a dressy but affordable restaurant in Boston

Food's good at Orinoco, but the service at Orinoco is horrible unless you're a regular or friend of the owner. Don't bother for a birthday dinner - it'll ruin your entire experience.

Any Info on Chinese Restaurant with Private Rooms

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know of good/decent Chinese restaurants in the boston area that have private rooms available for a party of 10-15? Thanks in advance.

Moon Cakes for Autumn Moon Festival

Thank you all for your suggestions. Looking on the bright side, I'll make an adventure out of this and see if I can hit the spots mentioned. May end up with the tins as kobuta suggested, but now I'm intrigued by the locally made cakes.

Moon Cakes for Autumn Moon Festival

Hey there,

Just returned from Hong Kong with my hoard of moon cakes as I've done in years past, only to have them confiscated this time by customs because they contained egg yolks. Avian flu they said. While looking to replenish the supply in Chinatown, I saw a number of bakeries that seem to make their own. Has anyone tried any of them and any recommedations?

Thanks,
Sammy

Jimmy's Hideaway or Mews?

Hi,
I'm taking my brother to ptown for his birthday dinner. I had a good dinner at Jimmy's last year, and have always had a good meal at the Mews, but haven't been there in a while. Anybody have some recent experiences at either place? or any others that you would rather go to instead of either? Thanks much!
