GREENS! - need tips for quickly cleaning and de-stemming

o.p. did not mention cooking the greens. Also, there are so many ppl. these days eating raw greens.........I agree, I do not stress too much about germs if they are going into a soup, stew, or casserole. In a salad, different story..PS......just re-read op's post, see that she is referring to collards and mustards. So yeah, they are going to get cooked. Spinach and kale, lots of folks eating them raw. Also lots of nasty bugs turning up in spinach!

greens have been in the news quite a lot for being contaminated and causing illness. they simply have to be washed. awhile back i was reading about this issue and an epidemiologist claimed that the vinegar peroxide soak and rinse was better than plain water and better than the commercial products. organics need to be washed as well. i do the sink method (sanitized first) then rinse, the use my spinner. i agree with puffin further up in the thread re. the transmission of "nasties". can you tell that i have spent the last 3 weeks coming off of a bad virus that turned into pneumonia eventually? :(

Well, I love the macros of quinoa, but still not on board with the taste, no matter how many techniques I utilize. I am a carb sensitive vegan, hence why the low g.i. aspect of quinoa appeals to me. I love Tinkyada brown rice pasta, but it truly is a "triggery" food for me. I took a hiatus from plant foods to Atkins, of all things for some time, lost weight, was not hungry. Trying to do lower starch plant based, little fat, to lose some weight. ( the atkins thing was years ago).trying now to avoid too many carbs and still enjoy a plant strong diet!

A Return to the Dark Times?

Both pork and quinoa are trending right now. Will not touch the former, still have issues with the latter. (Yep, I just outed myself. Quinoa non- lover= blasphemy.)

Best vegetarian restaurants in USA?

Stronghearts Cafe in Syracuse is pretty good, tiny place. Lots of faux meat. Not much to offer in meat and taters central NY!

Oh, I miss Cabbagetown. ABC was nice for a snack. I agree, Moosewood has gone downhill in certain aspects.....

Can you be a Vegan or Vegetarian without using Soy products?

I have become very allergic to soy. No problem for me as I like to cook. If one relies on faux meat, it could be difficult. I have learned to work around it, and do not miss it, except for "Tofu Kan", which I used to get at Moosewood and Greenstar, both in Ithaca, NY.
