I need RAW HONEY asap.
Hi! Does anyone know where I can buy raw honey in Manhattan? Raw honey is unpasteurized. It is not what you get in the supermarket and is more expensive. I would like to buy it in person without having it shipped to me. Anyone know specifically where? I checked the Greenmarket Journal but it doesn't seem like anyone there sells honey at all. I really want to get some today (Monday) or tomorrow if possible!
Any good food by york & 68th street Hospital?
Fresh Food Kitchen on 68th between York and 1st. Whenever I meet my grandmother at the hospital, we go there.
Where can I buy Magic Pop rice cakes?
If you don't know what I'm taking about, you can see a picture and read about them here:

But anyway, I live in the UES and going to 110th and B'way all the time to feed my addiction to these things isn't so possible, so I was wondering if anyone could tell me somewhere on the east side or perhaps in the 70s/80s on the west side if absolutely needed, but hopefully somewhere on the 6 where I can buy them?
Thanks!!
Japanese Grocery Question - Inari Sushi Ingredients
Wow thanks everyone for the responses. Last time I had checked this I didn't have so many responses, and now I do! Great! I think I'll try Katagiri again, though I am thinking it might be worth it to travel a little further to Sunrise or JAS. Thanks for the responses and now I know where to look.
Japanese Grocery Question - Inari Sushi Ingredients
no I haven't but maybe I should try.
Japanese Grocery Question - Inari Sushi Ingredients
Hi, all,
I want to make inari sushi (deep fried tofu pouches with sushi rice inside) and I've found that I need to buy abura-age or Oagesan in packages or cans, but I can't find anywhere online and even Katagiri doesn't seem to sell this. Does anyone know where in Manhattan (I live in the UES, but I'll go anywhere to get 'em) I can buy these?
Thanks!
Where to Go for Real Sushi Experience
Hrmm I wish there was a message feature on CH.
Well, I think I know what the real experience is, but that I haven't yet experienced it? Is that possible? hehe
Do you have any comments on what the real exprience is, raji?
Where to Go for Real Sushi Experience
Thanks for this list. I'm looking them all up and will go to one tomorrow, hopefully.
I know what the real experience is based on reading books (favvvorite book The Zen of Fish by Trevor Corson) and online about sushi etiquette. From that, I concluded things about my own experiences that I hadn't had the proper experience yet. The closest I believe I've come is at a Japanese restaurant in my hometown in MA, where the women (although most of the employees were Chinese) wore traditional clothing (though I don't know if they do that at real sushi restaurants in Japan), they brought you a hot towel in the beginning, has special house sauces, etc. It just felt closer to how it should be.
Where to Go for Real Sushi Experience
Where are the small sushi bars where they greet you with 'irashimase', where the sushi chef actually pays attention to the way the customer is eating the sushi (whether or not they are doing it correctly), where you actually tell the sushi chef which sushi you want and not the waitress, where the chef sizes the sushi for ONE BITE and the airiness of the sushi depending on the way the customer eats it, where the chef actually TALKS to the customer.
I've gone to a lot of the cheap sushi restaurants on the UES that are good (Sushi Hana, Hawaii Sushi, Amber, Wasabi Lobby, etc) but I want the real experience (without, of course, going to Japan, which I will, eventually).
Give me the complete list in Manhattan. Let me know which ones are in the UES, I'm most likely to go there first because I live there.
Thanks a lot. Chowhound's awesome.
