Are there any delicous non-pork breakfast sausges to be had in Los Angeles? Try Lindy & Grundy on Fairfax, McCallls on Hillhurst, or in the Farmers Market (3rd & Fairfax - see their website) there are two great butchers and two great poultry shops that might do it for you - I think you would be happy with any of these fine shops |

Fresh Lamb or Goat Meat in LA? I think you are pretty close to McCall's Meat & Fish, 2117 Hillhurst (just below Los Feliz) - IMO, one of the 3 best butchers in LA. Anything you want in lamb, don't know about goat. |

Near downtown LB (Orange @ Broadway) is the small, chef owned, "At Last", a locals real favorite - reservations and parking are tough, but well worth it. On Main St, in Seal Beach are two great favorites - Walt's Wharf for seafood, and Cafe Lafayette for American/Continental. Between downtown and S.B., (PCH/Loynes), Enrique's for great, upscale Mexican |

A GREAT WESTSIDE DINNER EXPERIENCE Would highly recommend Bistro Laurent, 3936 Sepulveda (Venice/Washington}. A longtime breakfast favorite, that recently (?)is now open Thur, Fri, Sat for dinner. A small, but well designed menu - 2 steaks, 1 chicken, 1 pasta, salads, a few really great crepes, and daily specials - all with wonderful service. We had salmon crepe, mushroom/bacon crepe, salads, vegetables, potatoes, and got out for just over $21 + tip. Everything prepared perfectly. But, watch their hours - at this time they are only open 3 nights for dinner and Th-Su for breakfast/lunch 8:00-2:30. (I think they do a big, french bakery, wholesale business) |

Marcondas Meats in Farmers Market, 3rd/Fairfax, will slice to order, including the wonderful slabs from Holland. In Santa Monica, Bob's Market on Ocean Park I'm sure will slice to order. |

Need a recommendation for tonight - Nothing fancy, just good American food, reasonably priced. |

Best breakfast during the week near Santa Monica? My favorite is Sauce on Hampton - (nr Rose/Main) Great food, priced right. |

Breakfast in Grapevine area of Dallas Thank you all for the words on Main St and Old West - you were right on! I especially loved the Migas at Main St. |

STEWED CHICKEN - MY ANNUAL SEARCH Does anyplace still serve stewed chicken, gravy, and dumplings, the light, fluffy ones, about the size of a pool ball ? The last I found this dish was the Alpine Inn in O.C., ten+ years ago. Appreciate any thoughts. |
|
|
Need a good coffee/expresso recommendation in Grapevine. Prefer an independent - Not Starbucks. Thank you |
|

PHO KIMMY, Bushard, blk No. of Bolsa, has been my favorite for years - anywhere. Always busy, 95% locals, only Pho. Call first 714-775-1699, make sure she hasn't been worn out and closed for the day. |

Breakfast in Grapevine area of Dallas Los Angeles C/H will be in Grapevine 12/24-29, looking for good, local breakfast "joints". Any suggestions ? |
|
|
Need restaurant suggestions for Hollywood area near Santa Monica and Gower theater area OFF VINE is our favorite |

Dry Aged Porterhouse - Harvey Guss, Alexanders or Bristols? I'm way too late for the original post, but just for info, my recommendation would have been Marconda's in the Farmers Market, or Lindy & Grundy, just up Fairfax, or McCalls Meats on Hillhurst /Los Feliz. All have the healthest of great meats, great service and will cut exactly as you wish. |

Followed a CH recommendation last year to a great breakfast in the area of La Cienega/Fairfax, Pico/Venice. Now I can't find it. Seems like it was on So side of an E/W street. Fun people - I'd like to go back. Any ideas ?? |
|
|
Good eats in walking distance to pantages theater The wonderful "OFF VINE" I believe is within walking distance. |

Not Nectar Nancy, but by looking at their Yelp comments, that lead me to my quest - New Amity Cafe, 1134 Madison, 84/85th. Still there, same ownership, and according to reviews, still great. Thank you so much for your posting. |

I'm trying to find an old favorite breakfast/lunch "joint" (coffee shop) on Madison (possibly Park) - West side of the street, between about 75th to 85th, It is a rather small, narrow place with a sort of open kitchen in the rear, left side. It seemed to be always crowded and sort of frantic with waiters calling in orders. I am quite sure the owners name was Steve I haven't been there for 2-3 years and hope it is still there. Would appreciate any help. |

THANKS TO VANCOUVER CHOWHOUNDS Beach House - I'm sure that was it. There were tracks right behind and a small pier off the beach right in front and it was in or close to the Dundarave "village". Our hostess mentioned they had, or were, going through a positive "management" change. |

L.A. Chowhound will be in Manhattan for a week in Sept, staying near 70th & Amsterdam. Would appreciate ideas for; 1. Breakfast 2. Dinner 3.Deli's (chicken soup - pastrami) 4. Bagels |

THANKS TO VANCOUVER CHOWHOUNDS Well, lets see how good my memory is ---- we were without car, so we didn't go too far from Blue Horizon Hotel (Robson/Bute) except 2 nights hosted by friend in No Van. The cafe in hotel, Inlets, was surprisingly good & reasonable. The Eatery in Kits, crazy -/asian, good, but too wild & noisy. Water St Cafe in Gastown - Probably our best dinner. Ocean on Alberni - good, but overpriced, trendy, noisy. Pink Elephant on Alberni - ditto and god awful pounding music (?). Should have gone to Kirin which I loved two years ago. And lastly, a very nice waterfront, patio restaurant (name?) in No Van, right across the Inlet from Stanley Park, NW of the bridge on I think Argyle St. |

THANKS TO VANCOUVER CHOWHOUNDS Your responses to our inquiries a couple weeks ago, for breakfast spots and coffee houses made for a great vacation in your beautiful city. We did all the usual tourist things each day and ended each day in a different one of your recommended coffee houses. They were all good, but the winner of our survey was Revolver, by a nose over Coffee Bar in Gastown (which uses 49 Parallel coffee). |
|
|
You're right JS - and I'm perfectly willing to hit two spots if need be. What do you think ? |

Looking for a great coffee/coffee mocha in Downtown Vancouver or nearby. Any suggestions ? |

Will be in town for 6 days this month. Any recommendations for good breakfast spots around Robson? |

Saturday Lunch-Huntington Beach / Long Beach area 1. GREAT fish at Walt"s Wharf in Seal Beach on Main St, 2 blocks off Pacific Coast Hwy. |

Where to buy grass fed beef or farm specific beef in LA? Last year we discovered the grass fed Piedmontese beef at Marcondas Meats in the original farmers market (3rd & Fairfax) and now that is the only beef we eat. They have a full selection of cuts, professional butchers and great, helpful service. |

The consistent CH favorite is Square One, but very busy on weekends. My personal favorite though, is always Little Dom's on Hillhurst, just below Los Feliz. ( if you will be shopping about then, don't fail to go across the street and visit the fabulous McCalls butcher shop) |
