Cherry Tomato Recipes?

My garden also has quite a bounty this season and I've been making cherry tomato, yellow pear tomato, and cucumber salads with onions and a simple rice vinegar and fresh basil dressing. So easy, incredibly delicious! Sometimes I steam green beans and throw them in to this salad too while the beans are warm.

I also make a tomato and fresh mint salad with marinated feta cheese and a red wine vinegar vinagrette. Another yummy salad, minus the lettuce.

And thanks for starting this post. I like so many of the other suggestions, too.

Palm Springs & Pomegranate Margaritas...

If no one's drinking fruity margaritas, what are desert folks guzzling in this thirsty (108 degree!) weather?

Malibu, lovely Malibu: revisiting the Beau Rivage

Has anyone been to the Malibu's Beau Rivage lately? I haven't been there in quite a few years and I'm thinking of meeting some out of town friends there for a birthday dinner while they're staying in Malibu. Great location along PCH, of course. And it's such a pretty pink Mediterranean villa. But is the food still good at the Beau Rivage?

Riordan's Tavern

Jonathan Gold just reviewed in LA Weekly. He sez: "Are the steaks worth the 300 percent premium over the similar steaks next door at the Pantry? It depends on how much you want to watch the Dodgers on a big flat-screen TV..."

Big Bear, Lake Arrowhead?

Cliffhanger is now closed. Just drove by it the other day and saw a sign out front.

Meeting for dinner halfway between LA & Indian Wells--Mission Inn? Mario's? Ancho's Grill?

I just visited Le Rendezvous this past weekend on the way to Lake Arrowhead and you're right -- the food is amazing, the service impeccable and the ambiance quite charming. What an unexpected treasure in the middle of a very modest neighborhood.

It's a family-run slice of French heaven!

Long Beach: Good food, ethnic food

Yes, Beachwood BBQ is a superb new place -- lotsa interesting menu items like blue cheese grits, sweet potatoe fries, and corn bread with hunks of fresh cherries.

And they make up nifty to-go boxes that are handy for taking a pulled chicken sandwich down to the beach in Seal Beach.

Yum!

Stonehill Tavern : is it best restaurant in OC?

In OC I like:

1, Napa Rose in Anaheim
2. The dining room at the Sand and Surf in Laguna
3. Mahe in Seal Beach
4. Red Pearl Kitchen in Huntington Beach
5. Zov's Bistro in Tustin

Delish!

LATE NIGHT DINING

The funky all-yellow restaurant at the LA Standard Hotel downtown is open 24 hours a day. Cool spot with tasty food, too.

Steak Salad with Tomato Vinaigrette

I'm not a steak or beef eater, but your tomato vinagrette sounds great -- and I have a garden full of juicy tomatoes. Thanks for sharing.

Any other suggestions for its use?

How is the restaurant at El Capitan Canyon?

Actually I'm heading there myself in a coupla weeks and also wondering about food at El Capitan and whether there are other good spots to try up along the Gaviota Coast... Looking forward to reading the responses!

Lake Arrowhead Resort (revisited)

Has anyone been to the Lake Arrowhead Resort since it recently reopened after its mega-remodel? The restaurant there used to be a cheesy, chuck-wagon kinda place, but everything is supposed to be a lot better there now. Any insights?

Temecula Area Eats...a Few Quick Notes

Has anyone tried the Arriba Grill -- a new place on Main Street opened by a former chef at the Biltmore Hotel in LA? Food is a mix of cultures with a strong Caribbean influence. A definite change of pace for Old Town Temecula!

Joshua Tree

Back from Joshua Tree and I wanted to say thanks -- Crossroads Cafe was excellent.... really good, fresh food, fun artsy decor, and lotsa interesting local characters who clearly eat there all the time.

I also went to the 29 Palm Inn, which has a very good restaurant with veggies from the owner's organic garden.

Recs for Monterey Bay Aquarium dining options

Yes, the Fishhopper is right in the middle of the tourist hub -- yet it's surprisingly good. And the view is spectacular.

Acqua al 2 child friendly? Other gaslamp restaurant ideas with children?

The Basic Urban Kitchen on 10th is quite close by and a great choice. Simple menu (pizza with interesting toppings) in a converted warehouse. I took my kids there for lunch when we stayed at the Omni earlier this month. They loved it and so did my husband and I.

The Red Pearl Kitchen is close by. Another treat!

Sushi in Palm Springs

Just back from Palm Springs -- visited Okura Robata Grill and Sushi Bar for the first time. It's part sushi bar, part Asian fusion. Open kitchen. Interesting menu. Best of all, really good food! The restaurant is a bit away from Palm Springs -- on 111 in La Quinta -- but I saw that there's a second Okura opening in Palm Springs in September.

Usually I'm disappointed with Japanese food in the desert, but not this trip.
