Milo's Pita - Toronto Life Square (Yonge/Dundas)
I also finally went to Milo's this week. Good but not great. Like Obama's first seven months in office, maybe my hopes for Milo's were set too a bit too high after all the board ravings.
I ordered the kafta kabob. The kabob itself was good, but not memorable or distinctive, and I found it a bit dry. It also sat like a rock in my stomach afterwards, unfortunately, which very rarely happens with me.
The pita and veggies did taste fresh and good, and the onions are flavoured with sumac, a spice mixture I love. So overall, I'd say it's not a bad meal, and probably a very good one for a typical Toronto food court. But I wouldn't go out of my way to return there.
For my money and Lebanese food hankering, Pita Q is probably still unbeaten.
Shawarmas in Toronto
I also spent all summer looking for a good shawarma place around U of T.
My personal favourite is Pita Q (two locations: Bloor and Spadina and St Joseph and Yonge).
I can't say it's the best there is, but it's my favourite of about 6 places.
Owners in both locations are Lebanese, and their chicken shawarma sandwiches are identical. Generous chicken servings, pickled turnips and tons of veggies, garlic sauce, hummous, and tahini sauce.
They also put the stuffed pita in a panini press before handing it to you, so it's warm and crispy. Some people don't like this, but I do.
The price is good - around 6$ including tax for a chicken shawarma sandwich and a pop. I've been to Sara's and Ghazale's, and in both places I paid more for dryer, stingier pitas.
Clover Leaf Tuna - Canada/U.S.?
Hi everyone,
I've long been a fan of CloverLeaf's Tomato and Onion canned tuna. An ex-Torontonian, I live in upstate New York now and unfortunately, Clover Leaf does not sell its products in the U.S. I visit Toronto every few months, and eat as much of this tuna as I can while I'm here. I'd love to buy a whole case to take back to the U.S. with me, but U.S. customs is iffy about meat products and I've had them confiscated before.
Does anyone know of any tuna product that tastes similar to CloverLeaf's Tomato and Onion? I'm looking for one - Canadian or American - that does sell in the U.S. Any other suggestions or ideas would also be very welcome.
Would greatly appreciate it! Thank you very much in advance.
Pomelos in Toronto?
Thank you very much! Will look in Chinatown first, then in Highland Farms.
Pomelos in Toronto?
Hi everyone,
Has anyone seen pomelos for sale in any T.O. supermarket lately? Might not be the best season, but I'm hopeful. Downtown preferred; but other places good too.
Thank you very much!
Fresh figs in Toronto?
Thank you everyone!
I got some at Fiesta Farms, and they were great. Mushy and sweet!
I might try the whole foods at Yorkville as well.
Dinner tonight Spadina & Bloor
There are at least four sushi places on Bloor between Spadina and Bathust - mostly closer to Bathurst though. Sushi on Bloor is a landmark and only about a five minute walk from Bloor and Spadina (around 515 Bloor). My suggestion is just to walk along Bloor east of Spadina and find a place you like.
There's also a great Hungarian restaurant on the north side of Bloor just opposite Sushi on Bloor, a couple blocks east of Bathurst.
Fresh figs in Toronto?
Hello all,
Does anyone know where you can find fresh figs in Toronto? Preferably downtown, but I'll go far if needed. I searched Kensington, Chinatown, Metro, and several independent grocers unsuccessfully.
Thank you very much!
Headcheese and Chopped Liver!
I just had the chopped liver from Bagel House on Yonge and St Clair (1438 Yonge St) - and it's very good. Slightly sweet, it is true, but excellent.
