Where to eat in paris?

I'd suggest you do some searches on the board to get a general feel about recommendations for the city. There is a lot of great and extensive advice on the board if you search with some keywords specific to your query, or read a few of the recent threads.

I've got a fun suggestion though -- as a musician, you might appreciate a bite to eat with a great view to people-watch across from the Opera Garnier. I like to indulge in a glass of wine at Cafe de la Paix on a sunny day, however, I find that options are more affordable and relaxed at L'Entracte. It's on Rue Auber, with a nice terrasse with a great view opposite the Garnier. It serves standard brasserie fare (salads, croques, etc) which I always enjoy.

What are your FAVORITE meals or dishes to enjoy when it's HOT outside?

A massive pot of snow crab legs, lots of lemon, eaten outdoors. Messily. And cold white wine.

Escolar Quest

My experience in Austin was that no server warned me about it. I have been ill from it before and wasn't going to eat it. I advised my tablemates of the ....potential dramas. They did not order it either.

I was quite appalled to see how heavily it was promoted in Austin. It was on a large number of the lower-priced sushi menus, substituting for tuna in many of the standard Americanized rolls.

My friends were in town for an important conference, and I would have hated to see them suffering from explosive orange diarrhea when having to give career-critical lectures.

I think restaurants should be more forthcoming about the issues related to this fish.

(edit: not complaining about the taste-- yummy yummy fish. but still!)

looking for a variety of great food in London near Earls Court.

I loved Addie's Thai!

FOOD Ideas Needed for a Vancouver Trip over a Week

My friends and I had an amazing feast at Sushi Kimura. The food was delicious and the value for money made the taxi fare out to the location easily worthwhile.

avocado oil in Montreal?

Does it taste nice?
I love avocados, but i've never tried it

Easy evening dining opinions in le Marais

I second the recommendation for La Briciola!

Definitely don't miss the Marché des Enfants Rouges either, plus the delicious cheese shop Fromagerie Jouannault at 39 Rue de Bretagne next to the market.

Unique or Unusual Restaurants in/around London

Cheshire Cheese is definitely fun. I thought the pub food there was tasty. Not memorable food, but solid and tasty. It's worth going for the fun.

Diabetic, Low Potassium Diet suggestions

May I bump this thread with a request for any other tasty suggestions? My father has just been diagnosed with renal issues (along with his diabetes) and I'm trying to come up with some good recipe suggestions. I'm just learning about the issues, but I know that potassium, phosphorus, and sodium are all problematic, and that dairy and protein must be minimized. Dad's an adventurous eater, so anything unusual and fun is welcomed.

Thanks in advance for any advice or resources!

I enjoy Cafe Charlot in the Marais. It serves very nice breakfasts, including pastries. Very fashionable.

Wedding Caterer - Edmonton

Any updated recommendations? I'm planning a cocktail/hors d'oeuvres reception for the summer. Thanks!

Travelling from Newcastle to Heathrow? And suggestions for Heathrow vicinity?

Hi everyone. We regularly drive from Newcastle upon Tyne to Heathrow Airport via the A1 and M1. Does anyone know of any tasty hidden gems along the roadside? Pubs, restaurants, cafes, etc? We wouldn't mind taking a detour if there is somewhere with nice food.

Additionally, we usually stay the night before flights in one of the West Drayton hotels right near Heathrow Airport. Any recommendations for dinner within half an hour or so of that area would also be much appreciated. I am tired of giving up in despair and eating at the hotel restaurant!

Thanks!

Blue cheese vs. Feta cheese

Blue cheese or Feta cheese? Yes, please.

Fearless eaters, where do you draw the line?

Ugh. I know exactly what you are talking about, but hadn't stopped to consider the process of creation. Ugh.

What to buy in France?

There is a shop in Paris that sells a variety of absinthes: http://www.vertdabsinthe.com/

Entrecote Steak Sauce - How to make

Nom nom nom... massive cravings to return to this restaurant now. Any updates on solving the mystery recipe?

Music Festival Camping

5 days -- probably 1 large meal and 1 small one each day. We can buy food from the vendors, but I'm trying to economize so only buy snackish things while watching the bands and cook a main meal each day. We'll be on the Isle of Wight -- looks like about 18 degrees-ish, most days.

Music Festival Camping

Hi - I'm headed to a large UK music festival this week, and need some suggestions for *easy* festival camping meals.

We will have access to use our camp stoves, but the designated cooking zone may not necessarily be very near to our campsite, so I need ideas for things that won't take ages to watch over, since we likely would rather spend more time lazing around our campsite rather than crouched around a concrete slab watching our stove.

We'll have a cooler, but not sure how easily we'll be able to replenish the ice, so I'm not counting on having much meat available other than tinned things. We're happy to eat veggie.

I love cooking, but I'm a camping novice, so trying to think of things that will be fun (spicy, tasty, amusing) yet practical under the conditions. Help me think of things I'll wish I had brought once I get there! :D

I've done a search on the boards but didn't come up with anything much, so if someone knows of some useful threads to direct me to, that'd be helpful too. Thanks!

New l'Opera Restaurant - Palais Garnier

I stopped in for a cocktail last week -- they had an outdoor patio set up as well as the dining room and bar space. The cocktail I tried was one of their signature drinks, "Phantom", and it was quite intense - gin, martini bianco, lemon, and egg white. Plus a little mask-like sugary thing perched on the rim - a strangely cute accent on a very serious-tasting drink!

The decor looked interesting - I'm not a fan of the stark looking tables and chairs (looked a bit like a cafeteria to me) but the glass interior and use of vivid red throughout was stylish. I'd consider going back for dinner, especially since I believe they'll be planning dinner sittings around the theatre schedule, which would be convenient.

Scotch Bonnet Peppers -- Best Hot Sauces? Recipes?

I enjoy Encona Sauce (the 'Original' West Indian one.) It's easily found here in the UK. I'm not sure how easily you'd get it in the US, but if you find a source, it's delicious.

Koto - Sushi
Saigon Cuisine - Vietnamese
Crown and Tower - comfortably scruffy and tasty English pub food

Can you hounds help me out with some dinner party advice?

That's how I'd interpret it too

cowering in fear

I have a massive collection of random ramen packets acquired from little Asian shops.... I tuck them into cases when I travel (in case of late night munchy attacks) so sometimes find them in weird places around my bedroom.

cowering in fear

Ooo, domestic and imported bouillion hoarder here as well!

Foods with a laxative effect

Ugh, I can't think escolar promotes 'regularity' as much as 'explosivity'

This recipe is really tasty - Gai Pad Gra Pow.

Aspartame? Does anyone else enjoy it?

The only one I can drink is Diet Dr Pepper as well! Absolutely despise aspartame in every other product (I've got mad skillz at spotting it) but can drink Diet Dr Pepper no problem.

What's the oldest thing in your fridge?

Was just wondering about the health and safety of my antique caper jar today as well. How old can they get before I need to throw them away??

Honeymoon in paris: Where to eat a tasting menu with these diet restrictions?

Agreed -- why not go a la carte if the list of "can't eat or don't like" is so long?
