Husband's 40th birthday dinner

We are spending a few nights in Vegas to celebrate my husband's 40th. We go to Vegas about once a year and recently have been to e (LOVED IT!) and Sage (enjoyed that too.) We love great food and enjoy a little atmosphere and great wine & cocktails as well. We haven't yet tried Rubuchon or L'atelier de Rubuchon but love visiting Paris so maybe this should be our next stop? Of the two would L'atelier have more atmosphere? Any others you can recommend?

Thanks in advance!

Flight or Iris

FYI Flight in Memphis copied Flyte in Nashville in hopes that folks would think they are associated...and got caught. From what I heard they had to pay the guys in Nashville to use the name, etc. Not cool.

Belmont/12th South - where to go for dinner

Assuming this isn't too late.....I live in 12th South so welcome and enjoy! Burger Up is a great locally owned spot that specializes in local ingredients and great cocktails. Don't miss the fries either. They don't take reservations and usually have a wait but the neighborhood is fun and friendly.

I would go for the wine bar on 12th -- Rumours -- or Cha Chah on Belmont over the 12th South taproom. It's a fine neighborhood spot but the food is average and service is beyond slow. I also think it's a bit overpriced for what it is.

Frothy Monkey, Portland Brew a both great coffee shops on 12th.

Not food related but a great spot to checkout is Imogene + Willie. Custom denim and other cool t's next door to Portland Brew.

Report back and enjoy your stay in the 'hood!

Miller Union, Local 3 or Empire State South?

We have one night in Atlanta (a Thursday if it matters) for dinner. After reading posts and talking with friends, Miller Union, Local 3 and Empire State South all look great (Woodfire Grill was in the running but sounds like it might be a little stuffy these days?) We love great local food but aren't big fans of formal atmospheres so I think these would fit the bill.

We are staying at the Hotel Indigo but will have a car.

Thanks in advance for your input! (Other recs are welcome of course.)

Girls' weekend in Charleston Mar 31 - Apr 3

We are coming to Charleston for a girls' weekend. There are about 10 of us staying downtown and we all appreciate good local food and great wine. Currently on our list are: Husk, FIG, Hominy Grill, Amen....Cru Cafe? Maybe McCrady's but I think Husk will win out....are we missing anything? We'll have 3 nights for dinners + some brunches/lunches. Thanks in advance!

Quick Saturday lunch between airport and Hotel Za Za?

We are landing around 11am and would love to grab a quick and delicious non-chain lunch on our way from the airport to Hotel Za Za. Tex Mex would be great but we're open to other great places, preferably serving alcohol. Thanks!

Moving to Nashville--where should I live?

No one has mentioned Belmont/12th South??? Plenty of restaurants within 5-10 minutes walks, a brand new market on 12th South called Greenlight market that specializes in locally grown produce along with takeout items (I will say that it is SMALL and not for big grocery trips, but will have milk, bread, produce, etc.) Las Paletas isn't ice cream, but great popsicles. Frothy Monkey does a great breakfast, as does Bonga Java on Belmont. Other restaurants are the brand new Burger Up, Mafiaoza's Pizza, Rumours Wine Bar, 12th South Taproom, PM Sushi and Cha Chah tapas (also owned by Arnold Myint, contestant in the upcoming Top Chef in DC) and 3 coffee shops: Portland Brew, Frothy Monkey and Bongo Java. Not to mention the Taco Truck every Thursday afternoon in front of Imogene + Willie, the coolest denim store around.

There is a bus stop on Belmont that goes downtown -- my neighbors son rides it to his HS there.

You can also easily walk to Hillsboro Village in about 20'ish minutes which has more restaurants. Another mile'ish walk is Harris Teeter, a grocery store as well.

Belmont/12th South is a GREAT neighborhood and is also an easy shot to downtown via 12th or 8th Avenues. To me it's a no brainer :-)

Hope this helps :-)

Nashville restaurant that threw out Kermit Lynch?

I agree with Jamie Carroll -- I can't imagine Tandy or anyone there throwing someone out. And I have dined there several times and tried many menu items and not once have we thought anything was too salty. In fact it's one of our favorites.

Perfect, Hugo's it is. From looking at the menus that was my first choice, but always like to get a local's point of view. Sunday brunch is a possibility so I will keep that in mind as well. Thank you!

2 Meals in Houston - Staying at Hotel Za Za

We are in town for a wedding the first weekend in June and trying to narrow down Sunday dinner and Monday late lunch. Staying at Hotel Za Za but will have a car. Thinking about Stella Sola Sunday night and the Grove for Monday lunch.....any opinions?

Would also love to hit a great Tex-Mex for a snack.

Thanks in advance.

Mambu in Nashville?

Anyone been lately? I'm wondering if they are still open? Their website has been down for a few weeks (at least) and haven't heard any ads on the radio lately. Curious.....

City House in Nashville, TN is AWESOME!

I second that. The belly hame pizza and corn pasta dish are our faves (for now!) as well. We also lucked into two great gelato flavors -- salted caramel and mint chip. I could hate eaten them for days. Definitely one of the best places in Nashville all around.

Glad you enjoyed it CityFood NY!

Pizza Dough in Nashville

I have been told that Trader Joe's sells a good pizza dough.

I was also at Lazzaroli Pasta in Germantown last week (if you haven't been you must give them a visit) and noticed they sell it there as well, along with their delicious homemade fresh pastas, sauces and other delicious Italian foodie items. Good luck! http://www.lazzaroli.com/

Nashville's best sandwich--

I have a few additions:

Back to Cuba at Harding and 65 has a GREAT cuban sandwich, and large enough to share.

I'll second the chicken salad/Iroquois at Bread and Co., and will add the Bacon/almond/cheddar spread at Food Co. in Green Hills. It is similar to a pimento cheese but has a kick and BACON instead of pimentos. (Also great as a dip/spread.)

I must also mention the subs at Sub Stop -- the old school homemade tuna salad is delish, they also have great soups too.

Lastly, I think 12th South taproom does some great sandwiches and has a good variety.

Sunday breakfast in Memphis?

We are overnighting at the Madison on a Saturday and are looking for a great Sunday breakfast, either near the hotel/downtown, or headed east toward Nashville. Automatic Slim's looks great, but they don't open until 10am and we were hoping for something a little earlier. Any suggestions? Thanks!

NASHVILLE - BEST BRUNCH NEAR HERMITAGE ?

Germantown Cafe has a great Sunday brunch and is just a quick (5 minutes or so) car/cab ride from the Hermitage. It is in the Germantown area and has great shrimp & grits, different benedicts, etc. with a great view of downtown http://www.germantowncafe.com/ Just across the street there is a great coffee shop called Drink Haus http://www.drinkhaus.com/ that opens at 9am on Sunday so you could start working on your hangover there prior to brunch. It's a nice neighborhood for a walk.

Hillsboro Village has several places for brunch as well and it's also just a 5-10 minute ride away. Fido is a coffee shop (also serves beer and wine) with great food (breakfast burritos, wonderful oatmeal, etc.) http://www.bongojava.com/fido.php and just next door is Jackson's which has a great brunch with a full bar for bloody mary's, etc. Pancake Pantry is next door which gets lots of press and folks either love it or think it's overrated. I fall into the second category -- no pancake is worth standing in line when I'm hot, hungry, and potentially hungover!

Hope this helps; enjoy your visit!

Restaurants in Steamboat Springs?

This is a very belated reply, but we went to CV Bistro not once, but twice, on our 4 night stay in Steamboat. We tried it for drinks and had to get back for food. They had a great happy hour - $5 wines by the glass and appetizer specials as well. We split the chorizo chicken pot pie app and it was AMAZING. We could have eaten another but we wanted to try something else. Our other app was a mini grilled cheese, also good.

For the main, we shared the yukon gold potato gnocchi with mushrooms. My husband hates mushrooms and he loved these. Once again, we could have licked the bowl. When we heard they had homemade ice cream for desset we had to check the flavors and they were our favorites: caramel and mint chocolate. Both a perfect ending to a perfect meal.

The wine suggestions we received were great, service was professional, helpful and friendly without being overbearing.

The next time I'm in Steamboat, I'll have CV for dinner and Wynona's for breakfast every day if I can!

Where do you go for coffee and a dessert in or around Nashville??

One more option that would be nice, F.Scott's -- great dessert menu and usually live jazz. http://www.fscotts.com/menu.html

Where do you go for coffee and a dessert in or around Nashville??

Don't forget the chocolate soup at Mirror too, it is great. It also has a neat atmosphere and has recently been remodeled.

Another option would be the Cocoa Tree in Germantown, next door to Germantown Cafe. They have homemade truffles and a few desserts and also serve coffees and hot chocolates. It is small and cozy but could be fun to combine with Germantown Cafe.
