lissah's Profile

Looking for a lunch place near Derry Rd between Missisauga rd and Hurontario. Any cuisine decently priced and good food.

I agree that Streetsville is probably your best bet...

Saucy (111 Queen St S) is great - good food, good service
Giorgio's (200 Queen St S) is good for Italian
and I've never gone wrong with Cagney's - the decor is kinda dated and drab, but the food is usually pretty good!

Hidden Lunch spots...

tick talk at spadina and harbord (next to the guitar store on harbord)
hands down the best tuna sandwiches in the city

Banjara (Bloor near Christie)?

I've never had a bad experience with the food at Banjara (in fact it's one of my favourite Indian restaurants - food wise), but the service is beyond terrible.

What is with the smell at Subway??

Ugh...I worked in a shop next to a Subway for a while and every day I walked out of there smelling like Subway. I can't even think about eating it now.

Streetsville restaurants for a date

I don't think you can go wrong with Cagney's...many of you may turn your noses down at me for that, but that place has never let me down!

Great Restaurant in Toronto - Celebration Meal, family from London UK

For a more relaxed atmosphere that doesn't lack in quality I like Jamie Kennedy Restaurant at Church & Front. I also really enjoy Zucca Trattoria at Yonge & Eg, definately worthy of a reservation (although I think they're part of Summerlicious)

Good Eats in Yorkville

What type of restaurants are you looking for? Every day eats or more upscale? There are so many great restaurants in Yorkville!

Best dough for empanadas

This dough has never let me down...it's light and flaky and so easy to make!

Ingredients
~~~~~~~~~
2 1/4 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 stick (1/2 cup) cold unsalted butter, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
1 large egg
1/3 cup ice water
1 tablespoon distilled white vinegar
Preparation
~~~~~~~~~~
Sift flour with salt into a large bowl and blend in butter with your fingertips or a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal with some (roughly pea-size) butter lumps.
Beat together egg, water, and vinegar in a small bowl with a fork. Add to flour mixture, stirring with fork until just incorporated. (Mixture will look shaggy.)

Turn out mixture onto a lightly floured surface and gather together, then knead gently with heel of your hand once or twice, just enough to bring dough together. Form dough into a flat rectangle and chill, wrapped in plastic wrap, at least 1 hour.

Cooks' note:
Dough can be chilled up to 6 hours.

Best tapas

Embrujo Flamenco is fantastic - and has a live Flamenco show (make sure you check it out on the weekend though as the show during the week is very short with only one dancer). The Tapas are authentic and very good. Service is excellent and the atmosphere is great! By far one of the best Tapas restaurants in the city!
