Charlotte Area CSA's

It was $438 for 12 weeks, or $36.50 per delivery (full share of 24 weeks was $876). This was for produce only, not the eggs, cheese, bread or chicken, and the season ran mid-May to mid-October.

Charlotte Area CSA's

We joined Poplar Ridge Farm in Waxhaw last summer: http://www.poplarridgefarmnc.com/. They had several drop-off points, mainly in south Charlotte (Myers Park, Dilworth, SouthPark, Ballantyne, maybe Plaza-Midwood?). We split a membership with another family, so we got a box every other week. Although we enjoyed the experiment, we won't be joining again - it was quite expensive for our family and consisted mostly of things I wouldn't ordinarily buy, so I was still doing our regular weekly produce purchase at the grocery store. And SO MANY greens... we are not big fans. We could also get eggs (which were PHENOMENAL), some cheeses, bread and chicken.

Home delivery meals in Pittsburgh (south suburbs)?

My mother-in-law is recovering from surgery, and we'd like to arrange to have a few meals delivered that will be easy for my FIL or 13-year-old nephew (who lives with them) to simply heat up and serve. I've found a few restaurant-delivery services online, but none seem to deliver to the south suburbs (they are in Mt. Lebanon). I'd prefer "home-cooked" meals to restaurants, if possible, because delivery options seem to be limited to pizza or Chinese.

Can anyone suggest a catering company or private chef that might be willing to do a couple of small-scale orders? Any other ideas I'm not thinking of?

Thanks!

Looking for a Pop/Soda Named Wink

Yes, HT does carry it, but if you don't see it in the soda aisle, check the water/mixers aisle. We usually find Wink near the seltzer and ginger ale, which is often in a different part of the store for some reason.

Charlotte to Wilmington

We don't usually stop to eat on our way to TI, but we *always* stop at Pee Dee Orchards (on the westbound side of 74, near the Rockingham bypass) for peaches.

Papusas in Charlotte.

I keep meaning to try the (relatively new) Salvadoran place at the corner of Sharon Amity and Harris Blvd., but haven't gotten there yet. Their window sign says they serve pupusas.

lunch on Sunday in Charlotte

Why not eat at Ikea? Breakfast till 11:00, then the regular menu of meatballs, gravy, mashed potatoes, ligonberry jam - YUM. They also have salmon, mac and cheese, salads, desserts, etc. It's inexpensive but surprisingly good.

In fact, I just went to check the menu and discovered they are having a $1 meatball special this weekend (12/12 and 12/13/09)! Can't beat that. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/store/charlotte/restaurant

The Lodge in Charlotte - anyone been?

I haven't eaten a meal there yet, but my husband and I had a drink and fried pickles last week. The staff seems friendly and the pickles were good. I hope it does well - it's the third restaurant to occupy that spot in the five years Colony Place has been open! Sorry I can't remember another thing on the menu.

Salvadoran restaurant in Charlotte?

I stopped by El Pulgarcito this afternoon on my way home from work and got some pupusas to go. They held up fairly well despite 15 minutes in syrofoam for the drive home. I think I would like a bit more spice next time - the salsa they sent home with me (in ziplock bags!) was fairly mild. I'd definitely go there again - everyone was very nice despite the language barrier and they had a 95.5 health inspection rating. And I'm looking forward to trying to make them at home. Thanks again for the recommendation!

FYI, Pupusa Heat seems to be closed.

village tavern or red rocks cafe in charlotte

vttp926, if I had to choose between the two, I would probably choose Red Rocks. Their menu is slightly more adventurous and I haven't had a bad meal there. That said, both of those restaurants are sort of vanilla. Village Tavern, especially, is the kind of place you can go for a business lunch or a first date (or a birthday) and everyone can find something they like... but neither are particularly unique in their approach to food. They're pretty similar to Applebee's, Chili's, etc., IMO but more expensive.

Salvadoran restaurant in Charlotte?

Great - thanks for the recommendation! I'll also drive by and see if Papusa Heat is still around.

Salvadoran restaurant in Charlotte?

Food Network's "Best Thing I Ever Ate" recently featured papusas, a stuffed tortilla-like dish from El Salvador. They look amazing and I'm going to try to make them at home, but I'd love to taste a real one in a restaurant too. Google says there is (was?) a Salvadoran restaurant in Charlotte - the aptly-named El Salvador, on N. Tryon near Sugar Creek. Has anyone been there and if so, what did you think? Thanks!

Boone NC and Surrounding Area

Just got back from a few days in Crumpler, NC and had a mediocre dinner at Shatley Springs. I wish I hadn't read the debate here over the mashed potatoes beforehand, because I went in very biased and was disappointed that I could, indeed, taste the instant. The other vegetables were great (especially creamed corn and green beans), but the ham was dry even by "country ham" standards. Worst part? As I left, I saw the health department inspection certificate: 82.5!!
