Their mini cupcakes looked great, but their price was absurd. Something like 3 dollars for a bite. I got chocolates instead. (talking about the green grocer)
The cheese mongers have no lunch offerings, but bread and cheese are always fun. If you sit on the grass close to the water, you could get away with wine and cheese.
12 yrs girl birthday party in Montreal
I would do tea.
I haven't been to London Bus Cafe, but Maeve Haldane liked their "medium tea" and the price is hard to beat.

Or, if budget is not a question, I would go to one of the higher rated (and more expensive) high tea places.
Good eats and drinks for first time visitor
Montreal does Middle Eastern food very well. If you do a search for that on this board (include Turkish and Greek in your search) you are sure to find a ton of places that will be able to serve you excellent vegetarian dishes and you might not have to settle for sides.
Looking for a Byob for large group
We only went there once, but we were with a much bigger group (40-60). They served everyone at the same time, and the food was hot! It was pretty good, especially considering that we were all served in one go. They gave us a small area downstairs where our hosts set up a bar and served some mixed drinks. This could come in handy for a bachlor party.
Looking for a Byob for large group
Bitoque. Their group menu is $30 for 3 courses + coffee or tea.

Jean-Talon Market 2012
You guys inspired me to make a fiddlehead and nordic shrimp salad. Yummy.

I'll be at the Atwater market at lunchtime tomorrow, what are some good options since the Crab is finished and the Satay Bros. haven't opened?
Wine and cheese. And, Havre aux glaces is open.
Inexpensive lobster hits the grocery stores
Bigger lobsters are a dollar more at IGA.

Sorry guys! It was open everytime I went so I didn't realize they had restricted hours.
I apologize.
Good grocery in Verdun or Lasalle area, good prices?
and canolli at the cheese counter:)
Montreal Croissant Update Please
Le comptoire du chef on Metcalf is not a bakery but they manage to make excellent buttery croissants.
New Outdoor Section @ Atwater Market
That's a great price. My math skills are not normally atrocious, but it's been a long day.

$16 for 12? Surely you mean 2?
Yes, they are super sweet. The first time I went there the bixi station was not functional and the guys offered to watch my bike (and put it inside in their work area) while I bought a drink to quench my thirst. I am seriously bummed that they are leaving. I have to keep telling myself that crab season is ending, Satay Brothers are returning and Capitaine Crabe has another shop at another market that I can visit.
Jean-Talon Market 2012
It is wildly expensive and if it's an inferior product, that's just absurd.
I agree with the jamon. Does anyone in Montreal know how to cut it? I hate to agree with you about Hamel, but you are right, sometimes their stuff is not what I expect for the prices we pay. The people there are always so lovely, but they have several times sold me a product that I felt was not the best. Is their Jean-Talon shop better?
New Outdoor Section @ Atwater Market
Capitaine crabe is only going to be at Atwater Market for one more week:)
But, hopefully that means Satay Brothers will be back soon.
Jean-Talon Market 2012
Have the prices increased? I haven't bought any this year, but if I remember right, it was only a few dollars less last year at Fromagerie Atwater. It is worth every penny, if you can find good tomatoes. These things are amazing. Not an every day food, but when you want to splurge, money spent on them makes a huge difference.
@Nextguy, were the ones you picked in Albany flown in from Italy? All the local ones I have tasted pale next to the Italian one. Also, I think that the Italian burrattas come in 2 sizes, the smaller balls (pretty big) are about 16 dollars.
Passion Fruit Puree
Used to get that type of thing from Cool and Simple, but they no longer carry fruit purees. I did notice that Aubut had some in their freezer, but I have ever tried that product, so can't tell you if it's good or not.
Sunchokes or Jerusalem artichokes
I have been getting them in my CSA. Usually, that means you can get them at the organic store at Marche Atwater.
Beef ribs
I don't know about restaurents, but, boucherie les 2 freres at Marche Atwater makes excellent beef ribs. All you need to do is heat them and serve them. Make sure to buy more than what you think you will eat.
Montreal restaurants with 7yr old
Most drestaurants in Montreal are child friendly. Especially if the child is a well-behaved seven year old. I have a six year old and I would not hesitate to take him to most places. However, I am not sure mine can handle O Noir. He is exceptionally well behaved in reastaurants. He uses his utensils, does not stare at neighbouring tables, never gets out of his seat without asking me for permission, etc. However, I am not sure how he would behave if we were in a dark room and he had to eat with his hands without seeing his food and without me and his dad seeing him. Honestly, I would be scared that he might think it's some sort of a game and decide to scream or pull people's hair or tickle them.
If I were you, I would read the Montreal board for a few days and try to see if any of the positively reviewed places appeals to you, and then I would check here to see if they are appropriate, or call them and ask if they are comfortable with 7 year olds.
Good luck!

Well, it depends.Do you like MJT in the winter? I personally enjoy my trip despite the absence of many vendors.
The vendors in the central isle are the ones that are there year round. They have a lot of interesting stuff, and are certainly worth a visit for me. People in the side Isles tend to be the ones selling seasonal items. So, the organic corn vendor might not be there, but you will find corn at many many other places.
Another thing to keep in mind is that there will be less customers, so, the atmosphere will be a bit less festive.

Boiled. Here is pictures of them cooking crab at Marche Atwater.

I liked that they don't add tons of salt. The sweetness of the crab really came out.
Edit: If you like a different preparation you could buy live crab and try to make it.

I have gone to MJT several times on public holidays and like kpzoo mentions, the market will be open, but there will be less vendors. The vendors in the central isles will be mostly there, but fewer of the vendors on the sides will show up.
New Outdoor Section @ Atwater Market
Was biking in the area yesterday when I noticed two new shops in the outdoor section selling crab, shrimp and different types of smoked fish. One of them is Capitaine Crabe and they have live crab. The sellers are really nice, I bought both crab and Nordic Shrimp and they were both delicious. They said they are planning on being around for a while.
If you like beer, the annual beer tasting event seemed to be going on (did not investigate since I was on Bixi, and the docking station is not functional yet).
The outdoor section of the Atwater market is turning out to be the best thing ever.
Montreal with 1 year old
The kid being turned away discussion was from one particular restaurent and it's due to their restrictive alcohol licence. Other than that one place, most restuarents are theoretically able to accomodate kids. If I were you, I would make a list of places you would like to go to and then call and ask if they have highchairs. If high chairs are not a deal breaker, I would make a list, post it here to make sure that you haven't picked places with a noise level that is unacceptable for a one year old.
Where to eat with kids?
Fries in duck fat. Lamb shank. Seafood platter. Duck breast (if they've never had duck, they will think it's chicken). Ribs....
If APDC sounds good to you, you really should go there.
Best Wedding Mains
I would consider something that can cook for a long period of time. Do you guys like boeuf bourguignon?
Where to eat with kids?
My kids like Quing Hua dumplings and they like dim sum a lot. Dimsum is fun because it's quick, family friendly, and they see the food before they order it.
If your kids like going out, this discussion has suggestions for places that have kids menus.

DH and I find it a lot easier when we travel to eat out for breakfast and lunch but to order take out for dinner and eat in our hotel room. Usually our kids are so tired at night that we prefer not to take them out. I am not syaing that you should stay in, I am just saying that iI presonally prefer that. Your kids might be older, and they might tolerate going out for 3 meals a day a lot better). If your kids are like mine and you dread eating all meals at restaurents when you're on vaccation, but mine are still young. Last Easter, we really wanted a vacation, but we had no time for one. So, we decided to play tourist in town and stayed at a hotel for the weekend. One day, we went to MJT and bought nordic shrimp and snow crab plus some really nice wine and we had that for dinner in our hotel room. Best dinner ever.
