Rennet?

Thanks!

Rennet?

Anyone know where I can pick up some rennet. Either animal or vegetable is fine. I'm also having trouble finding cheesecloth for some reason, any tips there?

Thanks everybody!

New Outdoor Section @ Atwater Market

I'm with you, it was good but really not mind-blowing and far too expensive for the portion size. We were with some people who had just had laksa in Malaysia and they were not impressed. The satay was really good, but again a little too pricy for "street food." It nice to have another option at Atwater, though.

Best Dumpling Deal in Town - New Chinese Place in Pointe St. Charles

Sounds delicious. When I lived in Parc-Ex I used to get frozen dumplings at Soupson on Jean Talon. They're handmade by the owner and really good. I can't remember how much they were but I think it was around $3.50 for six.

I did get seven, though I only ordered six. I doubt they're giving everyone seven. Frankly, I don't care if they're not made by hand, the convenience of having dumplings on demand so close to home at just $2 is worth that $2. Anyhoo, I'm probably wrong but I think they are handmade. But I'm no dumpling expert.

I just got dumplings, six for $2, at a new Chinese place on Laprairie and Chateauguay in The Pointe. Pretty good and incredibly cheap. So far their other stuff is your average Chinese/American things. I wonder if they'd make anything a little more authentic if I asked nicely enough.

Favourites in Little India (a.k.a southern parc-ex)

Nouveau Sana is not related in any way to Sana on Jarry. I asked last time I picked up a sandwich.

Favourites in Little India (a.k.a southern parc-ex)

Wow, everyone's raving about Curry & Naan. I was there shortly after it opened and wasn't impressed, maybe they needed some time to work out the kinks.

I live in Parc-Ex so I've tried every South Asian place on Jean Talon and my favourite is still Maison India Curry but mt favourite take-out lunch, because it's so close but also delicious, is the naan sandwich from Nouveau Sana. More than I can eat for about $4-5.

Louisville, Nashville and everything in between (what's good?)

That's alright. I give tours myself, I just put my link in my profile. But they want to keep discussion here strictly free of commercial connotations. What's the deal with Hillbilly Tea, I've been hearing about but have no idea what it is.

Louisville, Nashville and everything in between (what's good?)

That is one heck of a extensive list! Thanks so much for all of the tips!

Louisville, Nashville and everything in between (what's good?)

We definitely plan on hitting up Hammerheads. What's the deal with Eiderdown?

Louisville, Nashville and everything in between (what's good?)

Any good suggestions for fried chicken? And what is a hot chicken? Is it anything like what we call a hot chicken here? Basically an open faced sandwich with gravy on it?

Louisville, Nashville and everything in between (what's good?)

Thanks for the meat and 3. We'll probably be going through Bowling Green and now we know where to eat. Everything sounds great!

First time in Louisville

I see that they serve a "poutine" at Holy Grale. being a native Montrealer this makes me... I don't know, I get a lot of conflicting emotions. I've had so many "poutines" that didn't deserve to be called poutines I can get a little riled up. I take my poutine seriously! Everything looks fantastic, though and I expect nothing less than a stellar beer menu from these people. Both Eiderdown and Hammerheads also look amazing. I think Hammerheads is my favourite place that I've never been to.

Thanks again!

Meat and 3 is something we can't get up here so we're definitely interested in that. Montreal has some really great Italian and Mediterranean food so we'll probably skip The Brickyard but Mariah's sound good. We'd like to go on the Southern Food Diet.

Thanks for the tips! And hit us up with some great meat and 3s!

First time in Louisville

Sounds fantastic, thanks for the heads ups!

Louisville, Nashville and everything in between (what's good?)

My wife and I are taking a trip to Kentucky and Tennessee in early April. We'll be spending about a week in Louisville, a couple of days in Nashville and then heading back north through Virginia.

So, what's unmissable in Louisville and Nashville and what's unmissable between the two and between Nashville and Blacksburg? We have no preferences cuisine-wise, we only want to eat the best. We're also not necessarily into fine dining, if it's good we'll eat it.

We're coming from Montreal so we've had our fill of French and Vietnamese food. We want the local stuff.

Thanks guys!

First time in Louisville

You had me at the Louisville Beer Store. We're totally on the same page! My wife and I will be in town for about a week in early April so we're looking for the good stuff. I think your list'll keep us pretty occupied.

Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and Recife. What's amazing?

Thanks for the tips guys! It turns out that we're going to go to Salvador and Recife and probably driving form one to the other stopping in Aracaju on the way. We'll be going in April. I have some friends from Recife and between them and itaunas' recomendations our minds were made up. We're super excited to explore the Nordeste! Sitting on the beach and having food and drinks brought to me sounds like a blast!

Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and Recife. What's amazing?

My wife and I are thinking of heading to Brazil. Of those three cities, which has the best food scene and what and where should we eat?

Thanks guys!

Pho in Montreal: 2009

Yeah, Pho Bac is good and so is Cali but I haven't been there in a while. My favourite is still Pho Tay Ho, especially right at opening.

Pho in Montreal: 2009

Which Pho Lien are you guys talking about? I tried the one on Cote Des Neiges several times and it was terrible. Salty, flavourless broth and chewy meat. Is there one that I don't know about that's amazing?

New P.D.C./C.C. et P. related place to open in the Plateau?

Possibly on Laurier? Here's what I know:

I ate at M. Wells Diner in Brooklyn not too long ago and our waiter had also been our waiter at Au Pied de Cochon. We got to talking and he mentioned that he, someone from Club Chasse et Peche and someone else were going to open a place in the Plateau. If I can remember correctly they'll be focusing on fish and white wine. Anyone have any more info?

By the way, if you've ever wondered what breakfast at PDC would be like, M. Wells is it.

First time in Montreal - late november

Is this an Andy Kaufman-style gag where you're not sure if the person's joking? 'Cause I really have no idea.

Best Breakfasts in Clinton Hill/Fort Greene?

What are the best places to grab some breakfast? The cheaper the better!

Best Cookbook Store?

Is there a "Best Cookbook Store?" If so, where is it?

Thanks!

coffee and possibly some breakfast in a centralized place/close to downtown MTL

Right across from McGill Metro is Caffe Art Java. I've been getting my morning coffee there now for about a month and it's consistently pretty good including one of the best cups of filter coffee I've ever had. They have food too but all I've had are their muffins which are excellent. There's also Cafe Myriad Near Guy/Concordia. They're probably the best coffee house in town or at the very least in the top three. They have pastries and stuff but that's it food-wise.

Where can I get rennet?

Yeah, I was thinking about vine leaves but I might try to track down some fig leaves. I was only able to find one recipe online and it didn't involve leaves at all. The recipe I'm using is from Je Sais Cuisinier. Now I'm thinking that I might forgo the leaves altogether. We'll see what I can get my hands on.

Where can I get rennet?

You're supposed to wrap walnut-sized balls of the cheese/egg/flour mixture in them. I'll check out Home Cooking. I have no idea what the size and thickness of these things are, it's quite the conundrum!

So Long Clark's Ale House in Syracuse

They're closing much earlier than I had hoped they would and I couldn't make it down one last time from here in Montreal. So long, Clark's! I'm gonna seriously miss you! What bar has the balls to not have any music? That was one of my favourite things about the place. They always had great beer on tap and amazing roast beef sandwiches. Is a moment of silence going a bit overboard? Here's an article:
